Utopian Submarine - 2000W, Indoor, Perpetual

Thanks guys.

Been super busy with work and stuff so not much updating going on lately.

I'm gonna go chop the last of the Dog Hair and the Kali Mist.

Here's a quick pic of the scrog. She's looking really good. The buds are all decent size. I've never grown this strain before but based on my research and my gut, the Strawberry Diesel simply does not give huge buds. Pretty much all the buds above the scrog are about 2-3 inches long and about 1.5-2.5" wide. Basically they are all dense and about the size of a few golf balls. But I think the scrog has allowed a bunch of nugs that would normally be popcorn to become real buds. So even though the breeder's estimate for these seeds' yield is lower than the others, I believe I will get a good yield from these because they were grown better.

And the smell is awesome! They are sooooo stinky with strawberry. Its really amazing. I don't think I've ever smelled anything like these before in all my years of smoking. And there is a little of the diesel smell in the background. Normally I don't like that smell or taste, but I like it here. Its not overpowering and seems to add just a little bite. I have not smoked any of this yet of course.

BTW - is anyone else finding the new gallery less friendly than the old one? Also, has anyone figured out how to upload an entire folder from your puter? It seems to try to do it.

How does it seem to try to do it? I would love to be able to upload by the folder. I don't like the way it dumps you to the main picture folder instead of to your own pictures like it used to. This adds another slow-loading page to click through. Everything is glacial when you use Tor.

Signed up and on board following! All because I wanted a ride in the Utopian Submarine!

How do you like the Utopia Haze? How is it coming along currently?

Great journal! Can't wait to follow along.

Great looking plants Papa. Enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Thanks, Man! I definitely am! :rasta:

Those photos make me completley speechless PG...

:bravo::ganjamon:

Thanks! I am pretty pleased with the results so far as well. ;)

It seems to try to run the script, but has trouble locating the files from disk. I think it has something to do with URLs and pathnames.

nice bud garden picture!!!!!!:grinjoint:

Thanks! That's a great name for it. It really is pretty much solid bud across the whole screen. I'm gonna get more pics soon. I have been wrapping up the test group, and not had to spend any real time on the scrog since my rant a few weeks ago about what a pain in the ass they can be.

Thanks for coming aboard - and welcome! The Utopia is doing great. It looks and grows exactly like I think good healthy cannabis should. The only bummer is that super long flowering period of 10-12 weeks.

I'll be getting some pics up of the Utopia scrog soon. I took the moms after cloning and scrogged them. So I have a scrog of 3 Utopia, 2 DH, and the last of the tall AK. 8 plants in a 1 meter scrog under a 600hps. It is looking really good. I will try to get some pics of it up here soon. And I have some Utopia clones to do a scrog individually with each of them. So we can look forward to lots of Barney's updates in the future I think.

Scrog's lookin sensational there mate.:goodjob::peace:

Thanks! I believe its my best effort to-date. I am pretty proud of it. And I'm really liking the look and smell of the buds. I'm an old smoker and rarely get excited by individual strains, but this Strawberry Diesel has done it. My current strains that give me wood are the Strawberry D, and the Utopia Haze. My other plants are all good. But not the knock down super stone I like. The DH, which I am pretty sure is Jack Herer matches exactly its strain description - which is very good, but I don't think its as stony as the Utopia will be. Basically its about a 7 on the stonyness scale. The Kali never really matured fully. She is about a 6. So while the Jack is very good, I think the Strawberry will be as stoney, with a nifty bouquet.

I'm gonna do a wrap up of the test group now in the next post.

Hey Papa Thank you for your take on the quality of what your growing. Coming from an experienced grower like yourself, it means allot more to me. It's hard to find this kind of information. Now I can tell which seeds to buy to get the most for my money.:cheertwo:

Test Group wrap up!

:slide::slide::slide:

The test group is done!!!!

Summary: There were 3 plants in the test group: AK-47 (tall pheno), Kali Mist, and DogHair (which I'm pretty sure was Jack Herer bag seed). They were all started from seed in early November. Flipped to 12/12 on Dec 27th.

The AK-47 was harvested first. She yielded about 2.25oz. The smoke is very good and skunky. It has very little bite, and is very smooth and earthy. At the stage it was harvested - about 15-30% amber - it makes a great daytime smoke for me. I have a pretty high tolerance as I smoke basically all day every day. If I smoke and start or continue an activity it is very pleasant. If I decide to just sit for a while, I gotta be careful not to let it suck me into the couch.

The Kali Mist had troubles at the beginning. She has never really reached her potential. She was harvested at about 30% amber and yielded about 2oz. Its a nice high. Very much the "creeper" type high. I'll smoke two bong hits, then read this site for ten minutes and not realize I'm high. Then take two more bong hits. Twenty minutes later I'm staring off into space. It doesn't really knock me down or spin my head - just makes me spacey as shit. I think it would be perfect for an early afternoon Jazz concert in the park. A few mimosas and a joint of the Kali and you would be floating away on the music. I have 2 clones of her - one is doing very very well, and the other is coming to life slowly. I have high hopes - I really think if grown properly this could be a fantastic smoke. For me at least, this one was a little trickier than the others, and I'm looking forward to the second try. I didn't get that plant to its potential - let alone the strain.

The Dog Hair has turned out to be my favorite from the test group. I had no idea what to expect at the beginning as she was bag seed. I have now pretty much decided that she is Jack Herer. She yielded about 2.75oz. She was harvested at about exactly 50%. Good classic stone. A good solid 7-8 on the stoneyness scale for me. Its not enough to knock me out, but it's definitely immediate and heady. This is the one for after work, or before bedtime sometimes. Relaxing, doesn't make your mind wander too much, and very nice body buzz. This is also the one if you want couch lock, smoke a joint of this and sit for 5 minutes. I guarantee you'll still be sitting there an hour later.

Time for a few pics. I posted pics of the AK harvest a few weeks ago, so here's the other two:

Here's the Dog Hair and the Kali Mist Colas when chopped. Kali is the smaller on top.

Here's a closeup of another Kali bud. This one comes close to showing the color of the tris. Its really hard to get a good pic of the tris with proper coloring:

Here's a macro of the DH tris:

Here's a really blurry shot of them drying. Sorry bout that.

And that's gonna have to do it for now. The old gallery was a mild inconvenience. This new one bugs the hell out of me. So all in all - I'm kinda losing the oom pah pah to post pics or talk up here as much as I used to. I certainly like the folks here. Anyways, enough about that. Gonna hit post, then check out a bunch of journals.

Stay tuned for good updates of the SD Scrog and the Barneys.

Hiya. Thanks for poking in. I look at the controller all the time. I have been debating about how exactly to finish it. I have also moved most - but not all of the sub to a larger room in my house. I'm simply too old to fight with that small a space. Not increasing the number of plants or lights - just moving to a larger space where I can actually walk around.

Anyways - I am going to finish the controller for use in the new space. It will not need CO2 as it will control just the veg area. So when done - it should control temp, humidity with two separate fans and maybe an AC unit. With day night sensor. And possibly I will add relays to control the lights from the same box. That will free up some timers. I'm pretty sure I can do that with what I have here - get it done quickly and save myself about $150 in timers for the new room.

I have seen hints that the new CO2 sensors may be hitting the market and the controller manufacturers seem to be lowering their prices on good controllers. But I am still amazed how expensive that stuff remains. And then I go to Ace hardware and find a day/nite sensor that will turn things on from dusk to dawn, or from dusk to 2,4,6 or 8 hours. It was $8 and is rain proof. I use it to control the green light in the room. Now whenever the lights go out - the green light comes on. No more stumbling about in the dark to find the switch. The same thing from CAP or one of those guys would be $79.

So, yes - I hope to get some good stuff done on the controller soon. ;)

Sixth months. Fk me drunk!!! Thats heavy man. Time to move IMO.:peace:

I'd have to emigrate. Southern Oregon is beautiful and I had no problem meeting women the last time I was down there. Seems they liked the Canadian accent! lol I could look up my old gf and see if she's still single. We almost got married way back when. I still want to move to Vancouver Island someday and spend my twilight years smoking my own bud and fishing my final days away! :yahoo:

With any luck our current Prime minister will be out of a job soon and the new laws and plans for multi-billion dollar prison construction will go away. He's such a control freak and a stuffed shirt and embroiled in a scandal or three that he may be forced to resign with any luck.

Beautiful bed o' buds:)

Yeah the new gallery is tough thought maybe it was my browser that forced the "larger" image to open in a new window. Like anything takes getting used to.

Strawberry Diesel Scrog Getting Close

I am just too tired to thank everyone for the kind words. Gotta get some sleep - but know I've read them all.

I have been severely negligent in my pics lately. Here are a few to hold you over. I promise I have some cool stuff on the horizon.

All of these are the SD ScrOG.

This one is a little funky, but you can see the amber vs milky tris pretty easily:

And although i hate to end on what is really the least inspiring pic - here's what will become some good hash.

Check back in the near future for pics of the new room. ;)

I can't believe you are posting at 4:20 am. Do you sleep? That least interesting pic \, you mentioned hash. Is that what you do with all the little popcorn buds or are you talking about the trimmings?
