Can't wait to see that set up.
Thanks. I am hoping very straight forward and simple. One 6" fan, light or lights and a mover. ProMix in Pots on the ground.
Nice net job. Does this make it difficult to water?
Good question +Reps.
I have done this size or bigger scrog twice.
Once in 5G pots on a 3x6 table that I hand watered. I kept a pump in the res with a 1/2" hose and ball valve at the end. Flick the switch on the pump power strip and open the valve and water by hand each pot. I let the drain from the table go to waste. There was sufficient power from a little 396gph magdrive to get the water the extra foot to the back ones out of reach. So mix nutes first - test and make sure its just what I want - then flick switch and water.
Now I have the Ebb and Grow buckets with my DIY poor man's controllers.
The "real" ones use a double pump system with a float valve to kick on the return pump. That's seemed like a lot of extra things that can go wrong, so I made mine gravity based. From the controller bucket there is a 1/2" ball valve. Mine requires the reservoirs to be lower than the buckets. Theirs does not. But mine has cool psychedelic lighting from below - thats 3/4" and 1.5" for the to and from the controller buckets and the 2" Drain in the work table:
And mine only has one pump that fills the controller bucket. It pumps up 3/4" tubing to that smaller pvc inlet at the bottom.
All these pic are from a month ago. The other night when I put in the scrog I added some tubing so I can reach the furthest valves easily. Then from the valve it goes to the buckets. Then INSIDE the controller bucket there is a 2" pipe that goes back to the reservoir. The top of that pipe is at the height I want the pots to fill to. Pump up, when it gets to that level it goes back to res, and the 1/2" tubing goes to the other pots to fill them using gravity power. I also have another valve at the end to flush or test the runoff. BTW - the pipes don't need to come fom the bottom, I just did that to save space.
So how do I water? 99% of the watering is done by the timer. But to add water and nutes to the reservoirs on the other hand...
Water in from the tap. I have a RO here and dont use it. My water is 50ppm and 6.2pH - couldn't be better really. I replumbed this room from an old bathroom. So the water goes right to the res. Turn a valve - water comes in. With about 20psi of pressure coming in - sufficient to fill that 20G in about one minute I think. Put it this way - if I open it up all the way its too fast. It will literally blow the pumps across the bottom of the res. Open the big 2" mutha on the sides and that sucker drains in about 20 seconds.
Then...
Just close the valve between the plants and controller.
Turn the pump timer from auto to on. So now its pumping and the circulation pump is going as well as the pump up to the controller and theres a nice 2" flow of water splashing back into the top of the res to add O2, but the plants are not getting any yet. Add nutes and pH balance to the res. It mixes them thoroughly. I test til I'm happy. When ready - I simply open the valve and put the timer back on auto. They get watered 30 minutes every hour and half.
There's a hell of an answer to what you thought was gonna be an easy question!
Edit: What's funny is I can drain both reservoirs and refil them with proper nutes and balance in less time than it took me to write this post!
