Un-Lucky Queen 12/12 Hempy

Hey Doc, some of my seedlings were super deformed, looked similar to the top pic. All but a couple lived and are doing very well. I read somewhere that mutants should be chucked, I sure am glad I didn't follow that thinking.

It depends on the type of mutation  For instance if he had a tri-pod those are the type of mutations that ya pray for. But i've had weird looking seedlings grow into normal plants(although no mercy is probably the culprit here). Just like even some of us as children prolly looked a lil weird, but we all come around lol

Hey man I think we've met, remember the guy foaming at the mouth with spittle coming out? That was me.;)

Thread was a fun read, your take on the time release nutes in hempy is really cool. Love to see people thinking out of the box. Gonna have to give it a test.

I think all growing should be thought in terms of shit or salts. If you are adding salts to your grows to fed than it's hydro, even if your medium is soil. If the soil is inert and your feeding salts it hydro. If you are feeding the bacteria shit then it's soil regardless of the medium, even if it's water. Are you with me? Not many people are. RoorRip

I'm with ya! Lot's of people get confused about the huge differences between plants feeding on salts and feeding the soil. The root structure is quite different, as is the plant's means of getting nutrition.

Update:
Things are starting to move along now. I'm not top watering these cups. I mix up a nice solution of tap water, superthrive and a dash of veg nutes....PPM about 450, water is at 280 out of the tap. I PH it to 6.5.

Then, when it's all mixed up I just dip the cups in, let them fill through the drain holes, and take them out.

things are going well, the Skunk/Diesel are starting to take off and I predict they'll surpass the Lucky Queen very soon.

Hopefully I'll be able to determine sex in a week or so.

I just got this cool stainless shelf to keep all the potions in order. This has uncluttered the grow room and allowed me clean up my operation even more. I've now got the ability to mop the floor without having to move anything. I'm keeping the room ultra clean.

Niiice, cant wait to see this take off now that you got that unpleasant business out of the way. Skunk diesel sounds like a real tastey bud, have you tried any before?

I've never tried it! My friend likes to cross things.

He likes to cross everything with either skunk, shishkaberry or Flo.

I've got Blue Dream/shishkaberry, Flo/shishkaberry, Skunk/Diesel, Skunk/BlueDream, PurpleCream/Flo, and one that I'm drooling over.....Flo/Blue Dream.
That last one is going to be a delicious sativa....mmmmm...mmmm....:yummy:

Update:

Growth is good, the skunks are catching up. I'm happy with the environment. The C02 is at about 1500 ppm.

Here are some closeups of the Lucky Queens. I'm praying for girls...I would like to make some viable seeds too! I hope I can determine sex in a few days, but they can thrive in these cups for a couple weeks more if need be.

OK. What you're viewing below is my tap water's PPM right out of the de-chlorinating filter that screws onto the end of the tap.

Now the little experiment begins:
I'm adding a bit of Osmocote to the water, in order to see how fast the PPM rises. I Ph'd the water before dipping the cups in for watering.

After 10 minutes:

I further dropped the PH to 6.5 and then watered with the weak nutrient solution. I kept the granules in my mixing pitcher and will simply use them again, next time I water.

Very soon, when I transplant, the nutrient pearls will be added to the potting mix and I'll begin top watering.

Hey Doc, what makes the TR nutes release nutrients? I was talking to a nursery person yesterday who claimed that they release when temps get above 70 degrees. understanding how they are released may dictate how you use them.

They are basically nutrients in a sphere with tiny holes in it. Moisture causes the nutes to leak out at a constant rate. Temperature effects the rate of dispersal, which is perfect, because plants grow faster when warmer.

There are many different kinds of time released nutes.

Update:

Everything is growing just fine. I don't know if it's the T5 lighting or what, but these plants have very broad, wrinkly leaves compared to other plants I've grown. The Lucky Queen are more wrinkly than the Skunk/diesel. Both seem healthy, however.

It's hard to tell with my crappy camera technique, but I believe these two above are girls! You can't see the lady bits on these shots, but you can see the very tight internode spacing.

And, the best part of all of it, I left about an inch of water in the pitcher with the osmocote overnight, and then filled it up with RO. Here's the PPM and PH with just water.
IMG_07124.JPG

Now, these nutes have EVERYTHING in them. Calcium, mag, NPK, Boron, Molybdenum, sulpher, etc. So, if I can throw some of this stuff in a bucket with a bit of water, then add RO when it's time to water, I've got the ease of time released ferts AND the ability to flush.

I'm not going to to that this grow....I'm going to use the product the way it is intended this time....but i"ll be experimenting in the future.

Hello, DocBud. I was wondering your thoughts on soil with TR nutes already in it. I'm starting up another journal here soon and I just spent over 100$ on my light set-up and I don't want to screw it up with crap soil. Happy 420!

Hey bro!
Welcome to my journal. I'm not a cannabis soil expert, but most people around here, including me, use Fox Farms Ocean Forrest soil. They amend it with about 25-40 percent perlite....the weaker the lights the more perlite.

As far as time released nutes go, if that's what you want to do, throw some Osmocote PLus, Dynamite, Nuticote or Harrel's in the mix, water 'em, and watch 'em grow.

When it comes to pre-charged soil, like Miracle Grow, I've not heard positive reports.

Update:

We've got growth. The Lucky Queen are some strange looking plants. I'm having a hard time believing they're mostly Sativa....the leaves are very broad.

Perhaps the PH is too high.....I've been using tap water, but have been lowering it to about 6.5. Maybe I need to go lower. However, there is no spotting, burning or discoloration....just some twisty, wide leaves.

I left the Osmocote in the pitcher overnight, then filled it with RO.

This is the PH and PPM immediately after pouring the RO into the pitcher.

Hello:rasta:

Really beautiful, green looking plants :goodjob::nicethread:

I have started my own grow jurnal, at last :tommy: and I have to say I took idea from you. I was following your recent jurnal with Hempy's :reading420magazine: and I copy it RoorRip, :nicethread:BTW. I hope you don't mind. I added some tweaks to it too, so I don't have to be there all time long.

I wish you :goodluck: with your new grow :rocker:

Welcome! I just posted in your journal....I like your style. Very clean and organized. You'll do very well.

thanks for the update doc!

They're looking very nice and growing fast.

Still amazing to me how those nutes release at an even rate when completely submerged, but you're proving it.

Just think "Osmotic pressure" and you'll understand how they release at an even rate. These aren't little balls of fertilizer.....they're semi-permeable globes that encase fertilizer.

In my vegetable garden there are a bunch of nearly clear little balls here and there....empty Osmocote casings.

Because of Osmotic pressure, the nutes cross the membrane until the concentration on both sides equalize....remember they use these nutes in rice patties.
