She has grown 10 inches in 6 days. I think on page 11 is a picture from last Sunday. Wholly cow batman... I have a question . I have a 4 inch fan with a 4 inch phresh filter. I still get a odor . Not horrible .. But when I get home from work .. It smells .... I have the duct coming in the tent near the top .. I cannot go to the top the the fan and filter are outside the tent so the dryer vent is sucking the air out. I'm wondering if I should have gone to the 6 inch fan and filter..

Blame the smell on marketing!!!!

There are two types of filtration. Scrubbing and Single-Pass

Scrubbing is when the fan/filter continuously filters the same air in a sealed room.
Single-Pass is where the filter has only one chance to get rid of the smell.

All filters are rated for Scrubbing.

Example:

400CFM fan paired with a 400 CFM filter is for Scrubbing

To get a filter to run as Single-Pass, the air has to move more slowly over the carbon filter.

Typically, a 400 CFM Scrubbing filter will generate 0.7 w.g static pressure when paired with a 400 CFM fan.
To get the filter to operate as Single-Pass, static pressure has to be reduced by about 50% to 0.35 - 0.4 w.g.
So, a 400 CFM filter would have to be paired with a 200CFM fan to operate as Single-Pass.

A quality filter like Phresh will provide a performance curve chart with the filter. It will show what CFM fan is needed to apply what static pressure you're looking for.

A quality fan like Vortex will also have performance curve charts. It will show the final exhaust in CFM after a given static pressure is applied to it.

This is important, because the final "filtered exhaust" needs to be enough to also remove heat from the tent.

So, I always work up.

I figure out how much exhaust I need to remove heat. Look at the fans P Curve and see if 0.4 w.g. provides enough exhaust if not, I go up or down in fan size until I find the proper one. Then I take the CFM at 0.4 w.g. and look at the filters P Curve and see if that CFM will generate 0.4 w.g. If not, I go up or down in filter size.

A typical rule of thumb is filter is double fan rating for Single-Pass

I'm sorry if this is confusing. My technical writing ability is limited. Please ask questions if I've confused you.

I have a 3x3 tent 75 inches tall. I think the fan is 180 cfm. And the filter is close to that

If you had a fan speed controller, and the final exhaust keeps the temps down, reduce the fan speed by 50%. This is how I run mine.

I have the Vortex S-Line 6" I think it's 380CFM. I also have a 400CFM Phresh filter. I use a variac to reduce the speed of the fan to 50% and the final exhaust has no smell and is more than enough to control heat.

I just noticed the bolded part. Do you have a picture of the filter? Typically, the filter has to be inside the tent. I think I'm confused on your setup for exhaust.

Ok, so fan is sucking air from tent and pushing exhaust through the filter?

That is part of the problem. The filter is not designed to work this way. If I'm understanding correctly.

I agree , but I do know that you can push air through some . For smell and heat I have my filter in the tent and the fan outside connected by flexible ducting I can literally suck in the walls of my tent by an inch.
