TheRoach's First - Soil - Aurora Indica - Organic Grow - 600W

Interesting style of cloning, I always clean my razors before cutting mine, but only once at the very beginning of the process. Never waited either after doing the trimming. All good ideas roach. Better safe than sorry right? And you got a quality return on those last ones so obviously it works!

I´m not truly sure it works, next batch will not receive treatment and see if it makes a tangible difference.
Thank you for stopping by!

was making some calculations based on my grow closet size: 1.20 m long by 1 m wide and 1.90 m, that is 2.28 cubic meters (80.5 Cubic feet) My exhaust fan is rated at 87 cfm. That should be replacing the grow room air every minute or so, right? Is this ventilation good enough? I read two versions of the same numbers; some people say air should be replaced 3-5 times every minute, others have the opinion that replacing air every 3-5 minutes is ok? Can somebody with more experience shed some light on this please?
Also, I switched the HPS ballast to 100% output and temps were between 74 (off) and 88.6 (on) Fahrenheit (23.3 to 31.4 Celsius).
I read that temps shouldn't go over 30 Celsius (86 F) so I went back to 75% output and temps dropped to 84.4 during lights on.
Are this temperatures acceptable? Should I take any action regarding this matter?
The RH is 48%-76%, and I live in a very humid area, so the intake air is always relatively humid. I´ve thought of a dehumidifier, but will it be enough given the fact air is replaced every minute? Will it draw humidity from the air fast enough as to make it drier in a minute? will it make a difference?
I would really appreciate some help with this!

Hi Roach.

Your name always reminds me of an unlucky day at a certain international border. A bunch of us suspicious looking characters had almost finished bullshitting our way across, but at the last minute fell under the gaze of an Attitude Inspector, and things went downhill quickly. The goon squad descended and our van was ransacked, until finally the great prize was discovered. "Roachy Roachy Roachy!!!" loudly proclaimed the hero who had found it, holding it up in the air for all to see, to quiet groans from us, general rejoicing from the goons...
Anyway- they huffed and puffed for another hour or so then 'kicked us out of the country', which is what we wanted anyway.

I keep meaning to read your journal from page 1 but run out of time. Without knowing all the facts I may be just typing gibberish, but- I just finally got a dehumidifier working in my flowering room. My outside air is humid as well. However it's during the plant's nighttime that the humidity really rises. The plants will take the RH of the air and increase it from there. Especially at 'night' when, in my system anyway, temps drop, the thermostat kicks on the vent fans less, and air circulates less, as the plants transpire and raise the RH into the 80s. Anyway- now that I have the dehum- I can get the RH down to 50.

I believe exchanging the air once every 3-5 minutes is standard.

Damn. This explanation needs a bit more explaining but
, I have to run off again...

So? That was the Weasel with the Roach that came over? Get out of my cabinets and stay off my dishes! Puleease!

:)

Funny story Weasel! Hate when that happens!

Actually the intent was never to be a weasel, but to go forth and crack weasels, wherever they can be found (and caught- which is actually the hard part).
I'll try to explain my thoughts re the dehum better, later. In my case it works fine and the outside air is super humid, but it may depend on your venting system.
Actually, here's a thread I started when I was looking- it may help.Looking for help sizing dehumidifier for 8x8' room

I have a de-humid, but it put out more heat than sucked up water. Do you vent your de-humids hot air out somehow?

If you're asking me? No. But my situation is that I live near Antarctica so the air outside is always cold enough to use for cooling purposes. I am using the dehumidifier only at 'nighttime' when my lights are off and it's actually a bonus to have a little more heat at that time. Doesn't seem like it would take much DIY effort to attach a vent to the dehum though. In the thread I mentioned above, the EvaDry guy shows up at one point. EvaDry uses a system that I think produces no heat.

Yes it does have it's good points. This time of year the penguins and I can run around and do whatever we please any ol time without flashlights. In winter though things do get a bit boring which is why bud rot can be such a life or death matter. Have you ever had to say "no, sorry I'm all out" to 120 000 penquins? It isn't easy, they are very persistent little birdies.

Your cloning technique seems to work. I have never took that much branch for clones. Watching to see this. You got this Roach!

Thank you GhettoGro, They have that long stem because I made long insert collars, if I cut them too short they will barely stick out of the collar, and they also have to plunge a few inches into the fog. Also most of the stem exposed to the fog will root, so having a larger part of the stem sticking out and into the fog seemed like a good idea. Mothers needed pruning as well; they are sharing the shoplight with the clones, and being so tall they restrict how close the light can be from the clones.
Thank you for the support!

Ha, that made me laugh really loud. Thank you very much for joining us Weaselcracker, Im honored. You really made an entrance haha!

So the dehumidifier will indeed dry the air quickly enough in a grow room. I know what you mean about night time humidity. Even running my exhaust fan 24hrs the humidity will raise during lights off.
I understand that the spike is because the air cools so fast after the light goes off; cool air, after all, can hold less water. So air that is RH 50% at 29 C, will become RH 80% once the temperature drops to 24 C.
Very good to know it works for you, will definitely give it a try now that I know it will help.
I figured replacing it 3-5 times a minute is overkill, still I thought I would need a bigger exhaust fan for my closet. Good to know ventilation is not a problem!

Thank you for taking the time to help me with this question!

I will check that thread for sure. I will start looking for a dehumidifier, I´ve heard that you can irrigate your plants with the water that you get from the dehumidifier; that would be a nice tweak for my set up.

You will never run short on ice for your cuba libre. I would love to visit a frozen zone of earth. In the tropic we only have very hot, sunny weather or cloudy with lots of rain. In my country it rains 7 months a year!

Alright- caught up from the start. I love the misty cloner and your ideas on prepping the cuttings first, and things in general. Good journal :thumb: reps
I tend to think you probably do want a bigger fan than 80cfm or whatever it was you mentioned. Good to have the options open in case you attach a filter or more ducting for something or other, or sew yourself a bigger tent. Also the faster it exchanges air the less wear and tear on the fan and less noise. But I'm sure you've thought of that stuff already.
