TheBlaze's LED & HPS Grow - Coco & Perlite

Hey johnny I use fabric pots as well & Ive heard people complaining about as you say disturbing the root system when moving. How badly do you think it can affect them? I tend to move the plants around a fair bit so now im curious if I should be extra careful.

High Sol! I think the only time you could cause damage would be if you were moving them when extremely dry. If this happened often I believe you would probably see a reduced growth rate.

Thanks JB

I'm a fan of the fabric pots. I've never used airpots though, so I can't compare. The fabric pots definitely help create an extensive root system.

Yah airports give you a crazy root mass as well! I forgot to grab a photo of the root ball when I emptied the 45L pot my kush was in but there was no room in there at all. Picked it up by the stalk and no coco fell off! :)

Interesting convo. I've been in fabric for about 3 years, and I'm not that gentle. I've never felt that I've 'hurt' one, but I suppose it would be hard to know for sure. :Namaste: Was just thinking about this a couple of days ago.

One thing I was thinking too was that the plants really need to put down new roots in early flower - so timing that out so that they had space, was more important that what the container was made out of.

I'm inadvertently testing this atm. Have two plants in the same size container, one was transplanted 3 weeks ago the other one week. Will be interesting to see if there's any difference in the stretch phase as they were similar height at the flip. Unfortunately they are different strains so not a true test but both are indica so comparable I think.

Thanks Slowpuffer. I'm using a South African brand 3 part chem nutes, called Nutriplex. It has worked well for me over the last few years. I only ever supplement with calmag.

UPDATE

Day 29 and 22

So finally we have something to talk about. About 8 or 9 days ago I noticed a calmag issue on the 4 bigger plants, and a touch of def on one of the lemons. I do charge my coco with calmag, but realised that this time I had used less than I normally do. Just a stoner mistake. No problem, as I then just started supplementing with calmag earlier in veg than I normally would. All the plants corrected nicely, except for one Blue Venom. It got worse. So this morning, I hit them all with a stronger dose of calmag and gave the girls in the big pots more water so that the calmag can saturate the medium a bit more. Lets see what happens in the next 2 to 3 days.

I have highlighted the problem child in the pic below.

Yep, BV is a touchy one. My SLH was the problem child. I've heard good things about the fabric pots. It's just that in 100 days you are not able to take advantage of what it has to offer. An outdoor grow going all summer would be the time to get into fabric.

Cheers

I have to disagree Miller. My root balls are really dense when I harvest and no spiraling of roots around the diameter of the root ball.

Good to hear, I've yet to try. I was lead to believe their best suited for outdoor grows. I might have to try one out now. Thanks for the information.
Cheers

Praying for the light!

Have a look at the size of that fan in the background. Absolute overkill. LOL! I purchased it online, without realising just how big it is. Even on it's lowest setting, it produces gale force winds in the tent. I doubt I will be able to keep it in the tent when the plants get bigger. What a waste.

thats the problem i have found purchasing fans  either too strong or way too weak, the ones i get from the hydro shop are lucky to last a couple of months, managed to get an oscillating desk fan which is about 23cm in diameter and is almost perfect strength on its lowest setting. Would love to use my tower fan as it takes up way less space but it would blow them right out of the pots

LOL!

I was so chuffed when I unpacked it. Got it all set up, and then switched it on. Almost blew me right out of the tent. It sounds like a helicopter about to take off. I can only imagine what setting no. 3 must be like. It would probably create it's own weather system.

Hey Hey, Mr TheBlaze.. Sorry it took me so long!
Lookin good. And I think I just confirmed a similar Cal/Mag issue with mine, so I'm glad I dropped by.. Epsom Salts and Dolomite/Gypsum maybe next water... Pissing down here today so might grind it up today...
Sorry for the mini-hijack.. Just rambling to myself..
:tokin:

No need for apologies bud. Good to have you here. It's been a little quiet here, but early/intermediate veg is boring. No one wants to see small nondescript plants. LOL!

Calmag is a frequent issue in my garden. It doesn't even bother me much anymore. I take it you're growing organic if using dolomite?? Sorry man. So many journals, I get confused about who is running what.

Totally get it. The emails never stop!!! Don't get me wrong; I like it, or I wouldn't be here but my attention wanders sometimes.. You know how it is..
Yeah organic/coco; I just kinda wing it but you can't go wrong with the organic ethos and a bit of restraint. I will treat the plants tonight with a bit stuff; mostly ewc, pinch of lime, gypsum, epsom, compost, rock dust, and potassium. Ground up in a mortar and pestle
mixed up in rain water.. See what happens in a couple of days..

One day I will try my hand at organic. I've seen some killer bud grown from organic. I started growing with chem nutes, and now... rather the devil you know. I can't wing it though. Get it nutes or pH wrong and shit goes south quick. LOL!

:surf:Trying to catch up on some journals today! :cheesygrinsmiley:
Hey Blaze! I kinda like auto pilot mode :yahoo: We will be busy soon enough :slide: I was a couple weeks too early to put the girls outside. :thedoubletake:

Thanks for stopping by brother Hoz. Ive never grown outdoor, but I assume it's still too cold out where you are?

Looking good Blaze :thumb: We need a montage bro. ;)

Yeah, a montage would be great. Although I see the ladies have finally found their running shoes and have now exploded in veg. Update tomorrow will hopefully highlight this.
