Looking good MrS!
I've never run a GG before so I have nothing to compare this to. I do have some GG fems so maybe in a couple of runs I can do it and see if the autos measured up.
Comparing breeders descriptions, I've noticed that autos never have as high of THC concentration as their photoperiod counterparts. Makes sense, I guess, as there isn't as much time for an auto to develop.

You also have to consider that to make the auto flowering version you need to start with the original genetics and incorporate auto flowering genetics that are going to be, 99% of the time, less potent. Then you’re looking for offspring that approximate the original except with the auto flowering trait.. chances are you’re better off looking for an identical terpene profile as priority #1, then comes THC content.

@MrSauga you outta get yourself some of that grandpa glue so you can see for yourself!

Thanks guys for that tidbit of info. As far as Grandpa's Glue goes I've heard great things about it and have seen some of his prize buds. Yours looks stellar. He's squishee king with that stuff too!
Thanks guys!

Geez, there sure has been some great info on the last few pages, the seed planting method was a real nice tidbit! :Rasta:

Thanks GDB. Every once in a while members will hit it big with some good info here. The downside is I'll probably have nothing else for a few weeks now.
Have a great day!

Hey everybody!

It's edumacation time so I hope you awl brot yor penz and payper. Today we gonna talk a bit more about seeds and if it really matters which direction they go. If you noticed my post earlier the image I showed I mentioned that it always raised questions. This time it did not so now I have to pretend someone asked me "but Sauga don't all roots go down"?

Yes they do and it's a process called Geotropism(geo=ground - tropism=growth). The radicle, or seed root, will always grow down (positive geotropism) while the shoot, or plumule, will grow upwards (negative geotropism). So really this image is incorrect.

Not really. Seed varieties sprout differently and if you look at photos of cannabis seeds you'll see when the tap root emerges it's almost always pointing or turning away from center, hence the reason to plant with the seed root(radicle) pointing up.

Is it really that important to do so? No not really. Nature doesn't take the time to orientate seeds correctly. If you had a female plant full of seeds and let them fall to the ground you can be assured you'll have new plants without having to do anything at all. Auxins (plant hormones) in the seeds tell the root to follow the gravitational pull and grow downward and sprouts to defy it and grow upwards.

Light is not a factor. Seeds that sprout in the dark will still orient themselves correctly. If you plan to grow cannabis in space you will have issues. The radicle and sprout will grow any which way, sometimes both even heading in the same direction! Fortunately I don't think any of us have to worry about that yet.

Finally many claim seeds will sprout best if planted with the radical side downwards, as it saves the young seedling time and energy which is probably true with many seeds. With cannabis seeds we're doing the opposite since the tap root wants to turn right away. We're trying to prevent that extra turn.

The tap roots on mine were longer than I would have liked and I probably could have planted them with the radicle down, but I do it to knock those helmets off which I find plays a big part in preventing helmet head.

Hey everybody!
Last night before bed one of @Weedseedsexpress LOGK's peeked their heads out so I grabbed a shot of it. Sorry for the colors, they were under the blurples and I can't adjust the WB properly.

This morning the other LOGK has broken the surface too.

And finally a group shot. The Pinkman Goo in the top left solo should be up today or tomorrow as it was a day behind planting.
The second PG seed failed so there's another one in paper towel now and it appears to have a small tap coming out so we'll see later today.

:Rasta:

I planted a couple seeds on Sunday using your method. Nothing yet, but I think by the end of today I will see something. Otherwise, you owe me two seeds! (just kidding) ;)

Hey everybody!
A little update on the @Weedseedsexpress beans on the go. Last night at 10:10pm I put them in some paper towel after soaking in water for just over 24 hours. Tonight both the Lithium OG Kush's had tails around 3/8" long and were planted in their first home... red solo cups. The Pinkman Goo's have shown no sign of a tail yet. Actually one is just starting to peak out but the other is staying shy for now. Note the curl on the tip of the tap root. I'll touch more on that further down.

Below is the procedure I follow when planting into their first home. The next pic is the media before prep. It's Nature's Care Organic Potting Soil on it's own. Very similar to Fox Farm Ocean Forest but not quite as good as far as it's drainage characteristics are concerned. Nothing to worry about as long as you understand that and compensate with perlite when transplanting into their final home.
The 1/4" wooden dowel has a mark at both ends. One is set at 3/8" depth and the other is at 1/2". I used the 1/2" mark with a little extra because of the length of the tap roots.

I add water and lightly compact the soil to form a mo(u)ld around the dowel. I'm also rotaing it at the same time.

Once the dowel is removed I have a nice clean damp hole to drop my beans into.

Earlier I mentioned to note the curl on the tap root. The below pic always raises questions. Keep in mind that the image is assuming the seed is planted directly in the media. When using any method that allows the tap root to emerge before planting in the media you'll notice the tap start this curl. The curl is minimal but it's there. It's looking for a way down and if it was in the ground it would naturally do this.

The other helpful benefit to planting the seed this way is to prevent helmet head. When the helmet has to curl up the natural action is to peel the helmet off. If you plant the seed with the tail down the earth is forcing the helmet on as it grows to the top. Below you can see the curl already turning in the hole where mine was planted.

Finally in their first home in solo city.

Hello MrSauga, interesting about the tap root. I have always planted with the tap root down first. Next time around, I'll give it a go and point the cap down first. Have a relaxing evening and stay well.:ciao:

PS nice demonstration of seed starting

Idk I like to plant my seed in upside down XD why because they will re orient themselves as you said gravitropism. Welp I thought they called it that when I was in school lol. You know fallowing gravity...
And then the shoots are phototropic (might have just made up a word?)as well as in they fallow the light..
But that’s if I’m recalling like school correctly after all these years haha.
Maybe the crs be kicking in early.
Also I like the way they form this knot in the soil if done properly and the plant doesn’t un wind it self.
Kinda looks like a snail.

Successful Snail stem from one of the previous harvests.

Hey everybody!

Three up down and three down up! The Pinkman Goo from @Weedseedsexpress popped her head today so we had three seeds pointing down, three came up and no hats to be found. Life is good. The fourth seed, still in paper towel, has a small tap showing now and it looks like she'll be a viable seed. If all goes well she will be planted in the morning.

Ok for a couple of seconds I thought you'd planted them in some rhubarb pie filling :laughtwo:

Cool looking snail Scotty! I'm not sure what you mean by the plant doesn't unwind itself though.
Mr. Sauga, I planted two seeds today using your method. Does that mean I can't get a snail? :laughtwo:
