Daily Update: Thursday, July 21, 2016

Good evening everyone. :hugs: Time for another walk through the garden.

Maintenance notes:
- The hempy pot got watered.
- The no-tills both got a thorough watering with the malted barley grain drench, 1/2 gallon per pot.

Med GOM 1.0 (Day 33) From this point on she gets to grow verticle. Time to see what she wants to be when she grows up.

What she is right now is one healthy plant.

Dark Devil Auto (Day 31) No change. Hopefully the drench will inspire some movement.

Industrial Plant (Day 3) So far so good. I've been advised to let the Rockwool dry out a bit so the roots go searching outside its confines into the moist and nutrient-coated perlite. I've been watering the pot with the sprayer on fine mist, to enhance that coating of the perlite. My intent is to get as much of the perlite moistened as possible and try to keep it there. With the air conditioner running it's needing watered every two days.

That's it for today. Thanks for stopping to see the brood. Not much excitement going on yet, but I still have hope. Next week I'll be putting the tents up in the bedroom and get the first Carnivals going. I'm thinking move the hempys and the DDA into the second tent and leave the Med GOM 1.0 under the Timber Vero240. She's doing so well under this light I want to let her finish with it. When she's harvested this pot'll go back to being a continual DDA grow.

Here I am at the end of the day again. Got lost in some crazy videos and before I knew it the day was gone. :laughtwo: It was a wonderful day of jumping around just exploring YouTube, something I like to lose myself in from time to time, but I wasn't anticipating getting so distracted that the day vanished. It's not like I didn't get anything done, quite to the contrary. I finally hauled the last 6 boxes of my brother's belongings down the 40 stairs and to the post office to ship off to Texas, watered the plants on the balcony, did the laundry, drenched the no-tills, and played in YouTube land. A productive day by any standards.

I hope your day had a smattering of sparkling moments of joyfulness and gratitude. Those moments elevate the experience of living, so treasure them, multiply them, share them. I like thinking that our association pushes us to be better people. I know you all make me better for having known you. :circle-of-love:

I'm caught up! Finally!

I seriously need to make biobomb capsules with the oil I have. I wonder where one gets liquid sunflower lecithin in Canada... I'll have to hunt it, some capsules, and capsule filling tools down.

I wanted to say quickly though, I realized I make my oil differently than everyone else. I freeze my cannabis, and flavoured vodka (gasp) for 24 hours. Mix together for 3 minutes, and strain. Mix everything back together and into the freezer. It sits for a day or so in the freezer, and then I strain it and it goes on a double boiler for about 6 hours until it's thick and the vodka and tiny bubbles are out. Would that be considered raw oil?

Clearly I haven't had much to smoke today :laughtwo:

Sue Sue Suueee....youuuu are a super brain! I have a ton of vaped material! I gotta make me some of this! Mmmm this is gonna be fun! Do u think 151 rum would be ok to use for extraction/reduction before I add my oil for capsules? Any help is appreciated! :volcano-smiley:

I have a bottle of that in my cupboard, too. It took a tiny sip of that and thought my head and throat were going to explode! Too strong for a tincture. Gotta learn to make CCO safely with it.

Sue, will you teach us both?

Is the Dark Devil from the Sweet Seeds Red Family? Those suckers switch to budding fast. There's not much time for dilly dally! :rip:

My thoughts entirely Brunt FCA. She doesn't seem to have gotten the message that there's no time to waste. I missed the timing on her for topping too. She's certainly not on track to be the massive harvest I envisioned when I planted her.

Welcome to the journal, by the way. I see in your signature you're growing a Sweet Seeds mix. Great plants, eh? I'll have to swing through and take a quick look.

When you say "mix everything back together" what do you mean by everything?

It sounds like you're making oil the same way I am, with small variations. I use a non-stick ceramic pan and a double boiler to evaporate the solvent out.

It would be "raw" by my definition if it wasn't decarbed, but it's decarbed when all the bubbles are spent. What you have is honest-to-God CCO.

Evenin Sue!
Just cruisin thru ...don't get up! Hope you had a great day!:high-five:

Good to see you Duggan. I didn't get up. :laughtwo: :hugs:

To see you back at it brings me so much Joy Sue! YEOW! You go girl :)

Thank you. Made me smile real big. :battingeyelashes:  Next week two of the tents go back up and life goes back to normal. It's too quiet without a fan. :laughtwo:

I had a discussion about this with a biochemist who makes oil and he assures me that the difference in pull from a 151 as opposed to an alcohol at 190 + isn't worth getting excited about. If 151 is all you have, you use it. It may pull a little more chlorophyll out because the 151 has so much water in it, but you can mazamize the washes by being sure to winterize it for 24 hours before starting and keep everything as cold as possible during the process. i sometimes set the jars back into the freezer while they strain to keep things colder.

If you have a tincture you can simply empty it into a non-stick pan (I use a ceramic non-stick) and reduce it down with a simple double boiler. The alcohol will evaporate away in time. It'll evaporate if all you do is set it out in the pan and leave it alone until it's done, using a small fan to blow across the surface to encourage evaporation. After the alcohol evaporates off you're left with CCO. It's easier to measure if you have a syringe to pull the oil up into.

It's hard to say how much oil you'll get, but it'll all be usable.

Do I use Sativa or Indica, and does it all have to be bud?

Autos....go figure? After my experience with the Ultraviolet auto grow I think they're going to be just bummer harvests if there's no stretch when pre-flowers show. Anyway, I like to refer back to what Atrain wrote about autos:

Good Morning Sue and all of our virtual family :circle-of-love:
Ladies look awesome as always.
You see no difference on growth/ liveliness in the Dark Devil when you feed her? Maybe she is a "mini auto"?

She's a stalled auto. Something's amiss, and she has one more week to get it under control or she's history.

Do I use Sativa or Indica, and does it all have to be bud?

Sativa if you're using it during daytime, Indica if using predominately for nighttime meds. It can be any part of the plant. It's worth noting that the trichomes on the sugar leaves are often superior in quality than the buds, although buds have the quantity you're seeking for oil production. As many buds as you have available will make a more powerful med, but it can be made with any part to the plant. I have an article waiting for me to read that speaks to the therapeutic uses of the roots.

Thank you Jim. :hugs: I'm convinced at this point that she's going nowhere, and that means she's a waste of resources and will be replaced as soon as I can get to it. My next seed drop wasn't supposed to be until next Sunday, but I'm of a mind now to drop her replacement this Sunday instead.

Reps+ for the valuable link. I should have reread that before I started.

Looking forward to this.

And we're looking forward to getting to know you better Fyffer. :welcome: to my joyful little journal and to the greater :420: community. If there's any way we can help you settle in more comfortably, please don't hesitate to ask. You won't find a more helpful group of obsessive cannabis cultivator's anywhere else. :battingeyelashes:
