The Mega Crop Thread

I am trying to develop the simplest and cheapest growing system as I can so anyone can grow. I grow in ProMix HP which is the cheapest I can find

if cheap is the goal nothing is cheaper than hempy coupled with MC.

the media for four grows cost me under $30cdn.
aside from the light and extractor fan, everything else comes from the dollar store

use tap water that I let stand for 24 to 48 hrs to let the chlorine evaporate but don't know yet if this is really necessary.

check with the municipality to make sure you are not on chloramine. chloramine is being used more widely than chlorine now, and will not off gas. the only way to eliminate it is with an RO filter, or bubbling with some simple additives.

I do not adjust pH as per @InTheShed 's convincing evidence it isn't necessary. And so far I do not get any runoff when I water which I suspect may be why I need to flush. Not sure what else is relevant.

Edit: Yes I am in fabric five gallons.

shed had a fair bit of experience before stopping the ph and knew his method put the plants in a stable space before doing so.

i would suggest sticking with a ph regime until such time you have the rest established, and are comfortable with the issues that may arise when doing so.

Is it possible then that the MC is better handled in soil grows such as FFOF? I've never used Promix with MC and yet I've never had a reason to rinse out any unused nutrients and do a soil reset. The only time I do is once before harvest.

MC is best used in anything where hydro rules apply. that includes promix.
the obfuscation occurring is simply the same old confusion over inert soil type mixes.

keep it simple. grow happy. :)

I've been using mega crop since aprox week 10, r.o. water, happy frog soil combined with fox farms soil and it is grown outdoors in a very dry climate

It is possible. It probably has something to do with the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of each. I'm assuming that FFOF's CEC is lower than Pro Mix.

Pouring through also lets you monitor the process. If you have a PPM meter, catch some of the first runoff. Based on personal experience, it's probably around 2000+ PPM. Run a couple gallons of tap through them and then your gallon of nuted water. Catch some of that last runoff towards the end of your nuted water addition. It should be within a couple hundred points of your input (around 1100-1200 PPM assuming 150 PPM tap water). Reset complete. If it's still pretty high, run another gallon of nuted water at them until your within that couple hundred PPM difference.
I don't have a PPM meter so I can't test the runoff even though I think it is a great idea. I am just too cheap to buy one so I am going to give her the old dunk today and hope for the best.

I just flushed my NL. I tried dunking the whole 5 gal fabric pot but it was rather buoyant even after soaking it a while so I took it out and poured 5 gallons of fresh water through it and then gave it the regular 6g/gal feeding. I am going to flush this one about every 2 weeks and see if that solves the problem and if it doesn't I will get some calmag for the next generation.

Pulling my NL out of the way exposed the OG and despite the yellow leaves it still budded up nice.

I have frequented Phoenix many many times and it must be a huge challenge to outdoor grow in the Pit of Hades. The tap water is laced with so many minerals from running through miles of canals. But the heat...

this right here. ^
thanks for that info farside.

So what medium would you all suggest using if you were to do an MC grow on your next grow? I went water only organic soil in 5gal pots on this past grow, and the cost to buy new soil to start again in a week or two is just so high!

Do like I did and mix your supersoil and base soil all together, and use that good strong soil mix in the MC grow. A few extra minerals and/or microbes is not going to hurt a thing.

Mega Crop can be used with any substrate. Some use soil, others are growing soil less. I'm growing in coco/perlite using a drain-to-waste system. Go with what you know, someone here is probably using the same method.

My flush was only 440ppm for the first runoff. Maybe I'm underfeeding with MC?

Just for reference, here are the base charts for Mega Crop. It's not like other lines where you cut their recommended dose in half to start, it's a spot on place to start. From there, read your plants and adjust up/down as necessary to dial it in. The following numbers were taken when Version 3 was current (which it is right now, but for future reference and subject to change.)

First we have the number of grams per 1 US gallon:

grams-per-gallon.png

Multiple the number above by the total number of gallons needed. 10 gallons on week 3 of veg? 40 grams total. Easy peasy.

Next, the number of grams per 1 liter:

grams-per-liter.png

As above, multiply the number by the number of liters in you need. :)

If anyone would like exact numbers for the amount of water you have, start here: Mega Crop Feeding Calculator

Enter in your total number in liters or gallons, then scroll down to see how much to start with for what part of the grow you're in.

Some plants may need more or less, no different than any other brand, just no need for 10 different bottles of this and that. :)

It would be nice if you are correct because that would but one less step on my road to minimalism but I have my doubts because ProMix Hp does contain Mycorrhizae which I believe is alive.

But then again my lawn seems to love to be watered with chlorinated water.
Yup lol I’m in pro mix so far so good

That's the nice thing about drain-to-waste hydroponics. You are flushing with every feeding. Rarely have I needed a water flush.
Yup haven’t had a hiccup so far that’s y I ran both coco n pro mix to c witch thrives better with out issues so far so good loving the flush evrey water type of thing n my back is thanking me lol

I’m with u on this note ten bottles was killing my brain love mc one scoop n a bit ph down N I’m rolling but I’m surprised after I mix my nutes I don’t have to bring my ph much down to b on point
