The Mega Crop Thread

Tap water mineral content, Apparently it varies a lot from Mg/Ca < 1 ppm to 50-60 ppm
This might explain the confusion over the need or lack of need for cal-mag?

Partially, but there is also RO, distilled, etc. being used as well. Combined with some LED’s that seem to cause more usage, and there you go.

There really isn’t a magic combination that guarantees someone will need calmag, but there are indicators which when present may increase the likelihood of it being necessary.

True and that's another subject, knowing that someone uses LEDs,RO or distilled water is helpful since those factors stay consistent regardless of your location.

Stating that you use tap water isn't very helpful since the mineral content varies X50.
Out of 100 cities my tap water is ranked 6th for lowest mineral content, my need for
cal-mag might be more like someone using RO than someone else using tap water that
has high mineral content.

It may have been helpful to understand and anticipate this. We will see if cal/mag is the
fix for my problems.

Day 27 since the flip for the Gorilla Zkittlez and White Rhino... Starting to show a wee bit of frost and smelling a little bit.. Both plants are looking pretty much perfectly healthy in my estimation. Stilll holding at 5g /gallon. I might put something under the GZ to raise her up even with her sister next lights on. On the subject of calmag, my understanding is that calcium transport/deposition inside the plant is basically entirely transpiration driven, and environmental factors play a significant role in this of course, so things like out of whack temperatures and RH, lack of air movement, drought etc, especially during periods of rapid growth can bring on calcium deficiency. If I'm not mistaken and correct me if I am wrong, ammonium nitrogen(which is pretty low in MC) is antagonistic to calcium uptake so anyone using a fert with higher percentages in especially in coco may see more calcium issues. It's all intertwined and complicated for sure. Anyways, on to the pix......

Day 28 into our Birthday Cake adventure. Feeding at 4g. No signs of burn and a nice deep green color. Plants seem happy. Feeding calculator says 4.5 for extended veg. I'll let it go a bit longer before bumping it up if it even needs it at all.

The canopy stands 28" over the top of the bucket. I topped both plants today since they are plenty big enough for mothers.

Clones are not dead yet so I'm hopeful they will survive.

Hope all your gardens are green!!!

@PE636, that last pic is gorgeous! I am continually impressed by some of the camera skills on this site. :Rasta:

Going into week 7 of flower, I ran out of liquid nutes and I had free bag of MC so I thought id switch it over. The ppm of the final mix was just over 1000ppm at 6/gal. I know that it's best to just focus on grams per gal but I just wanted to know what it meant by 1.7ec. My base water is 200ppm so does that mean that my final mix should be more like 850? Thinking that I over did it? I think with my liquid I was close to 1200ppm. Just trying to learn and compare. I'm keeping an eye and don't notice any issues so far.

ec is universal and does not change. your ppm will depend on whether you are measuring by 700 or 500 scale. ec is additive so you measure your base water first. then add the ec of the feed for a final ec. ppm is an algorithm derived from ec and a stable element to arrive at the 500 or 700 scale. KaCl and NaCl are the elements used for the common ppm scales. there are others as well.

then add the ec of the feed for a final ec.

So please forgive me if im not understanding. From looking it up it looks like im using the 500 scale. My meter shows both ppm and ec. If my base water is 200 and and I add 1.7 which would be 850ppm for a total of 1050 which is pretty much what it measured out to after mixing 30g/5gals (6/1gal). Do I have this correct or is 850 (1.7 is what the TOTAL mix would be)

everything will be additive. might be easier to think in just ppm or ec, not ppm and ec. you have the right idea tho.

Sorry haven’t posted much in trim jail!

That’s where I spent the weekend myself. More this weekend, and in a couple weeks, then a few a weeks after that.

Was 30day into flower on 6gs a gal MC and all 3 plants hermed out, just my luck... best lookn crop so far too, i would have harvested every bit of 1.5lbs but not what happened lol... thing about it is idk how it happened. NO light leaks timing was on, healthy plants (healthiest ive grown) but i did get 5 free seeds from Dutch Seed Shop and got 5 different strains and only 1 popped and i think it wasn't stable at all

Not sure if this has been asked on this thread but im in promix hp, ive been watering to runoff each time with mc. Is this necessary?

follow this guide ..

In ProMix HP there is no need to water to runoff every time, or even take hours to water at all. In terms of runoff, I would try to get some every 4th or 5th watering at most. Farside likes to water with plain water to runoff and then follow that with his nutes every 4th watering (as I recall).

I use Promix Hp and MC and never water enough to get any runoff without problem.

Ive read that thread multiple times, just figured promix hp may not require runoff as apparently ph is not needed either. Thought there may be a couple exceptions using mc in promix. I have been watering to runoff just to make sure soil is nice and saturated throughout.

Good to know!
