The Joy Of Growing - SweetSue Goes Perpetual

Do what you have to do Sue. During their visit, shut all lights and fans off. Close the doors. Spray air freshener etc... You're biggest worry of smell will prob be the devil you just chopped. Wrap her and put her out on the patio? or somewhere until they are gone.

Even though vegging plant can smell, most people will not recognize what they are smelling. The ones that do recognize? 99% chance they are cool and will not ask, nor report. You got this. You have been too good at this to screw up now. I know you have this. Just use your common sense and you will prevail.

OK GG, you get serious rep points for that. I popped her into a loose paper bag and hung her from the roof of the tent, from that grid work I hung to support all these lights. She's got lots of air space and she's away from most of the light, so she'll be fine. The filter in there will totally cover the smell. The fan is quiet and the tent is nestled in the far corner of a closed room. It'll be fine.

Thank you so much. I would have forgotten all about that, and she was perfuming the apartment right nicely. All's good now. That deserves a big hug. :green_heart::hugs::green_heart:

There. That one should work. :battingeyelashes:

Great tips Ghetto. Sue , here's another...remember that fan /filter you have...it's 100% effective at getting rid of smells. If you can , put everything in that tent with the filter and do what Ghetto said ..turn off the lights and everything BUT the fan/filter...leave it on ..it's quiet enough ,plus you'le get rid of ALL unwanted smells...Cheers eh...keep your chin up girl! In a pinch,... and I mean in a pinch, you can even puff one in that tent with it all closed up...guess what no smells coming out the exhaust...great eh...just don't make a habbit of it though cuz youl'e eventually clog the filter.:green_heart:

She's already in the tent and I don't think it's necessary to turn anything off. His oxygen concentrator makes such a racket you'd never hear the fans running. Between it and the drone of the window unit ACs going at opposite ends of the apartment the tent noise, which is very low-level to begin with, is totally swallowed up.

I'm so touched that you guys have my back. :circle-of-love:

Morning Susan!

Beautiful things you have going on this morning! Hope all is well on this beautiful Friday morning.

My daily routine is as follows:
1) check my garden, water/feed
2) admire
3)coffee/bed bull
4) check out Susan's garden
5) start my day.

Everyday for the last few months this is it. Just wanted to let you know that (in my imagination) I grab your and Dale's hands and we venture through our gardens together.

Lots of love

I like that idea a lot Pigeons. One of these days I'll get back to doing the same thing. I used to start all my mornings visiting you and TheNuttyProfessor. I miss those times.

Sooooo Excited!!!!!

I was looking for the stalk from the Dark Devil. I reached into the tent in the dark to chop her, and she's such a tiny thing that it only took one swift snip and she was down. I cut it just below the surface, apparently, and had to go digging a bit to locate it. When I did I noticed rice hulls moving around.

image26874.jpg

Right there was a mass of tiny red wrigglers. A mass!!!! Of course they all dived deeper to avoid the light, but they were right here.

Obviously I can successfully raise worms if they are feeding themselves from the pot itself, which has more than enough food for them to magically transform into enzyme enhanced goodness.

That makes me very happy. :yahoo:

Yay... You go worms.

I didn't believe you when you said you lost them all... I'm glad you have worms.

Daily Update: Dark Devil Auto - Day 82 HARVEST

I began the morning with a Brix Foliar to the three plants in process. This was completed just as lights came on. I mixed my spray at a ratio of 2.5 ml Brix to 4 oz of water. I'm pretty sure that comes close to the recommended. If not, someone please advise me otherwise. There are only three plants at this point and five total when I start the other two next week, so mixing up just 4 oz. seemed smart. These plants got thoroughly drenched before going back into the tent, just as the lights came on.

Then I quickly reached in and chopped her quick.

image26883.jpg

Its easy to see how they came up with the name for this strain. I've been so busy and distracted lately that I hadn't noticed her changing to dark tones. WooHoo!!!

image26884.jpg

image26885.jpg

Flipped her her over and found all this activity going on at the bottom. Probably could have let her go another few days, but sometimes there are other considerations, like he might not live that long. I'm happy with the choice to chop today.

While we're looking, see how solid that stem is? Wow!

I opted to follow Graytail's modified bud washing approach. He uses two washes, beginning with a hot one with lemon juice and baking soda, followed by a cold wash. As hot and as cold as you can get from your pipes. I used 3 gallons in the 5 gallon buckets (the white is food grade plastic and is used for the initial hot wash.).

Three gallons was sufficient because she was only 10.5 inches tall. I used 4 oz of lemon juice and a bit more than a half cup of baking soda. My own technique is to gently plunge as I spin and repeat to the slow count of 30.

This is is why we bud wash. You should do this too. You know you should. Yeah, I had quite a little gnat farm in there for way too long. Thank goodness that's under control now.

image26887.jpg

After washing she got hung to drip dry over the kitchen sink.

image26888.jpg

image26889.jpg

As she dripped dry I went to work installing the light hangers and the second replacement T8 fixture.

image26890.jpg

To get things even under here I put some spacers under the pots. I wasn't happy with this though, and later lined them up by height, tallest to squattest and angled the lights using those nifty yo yo hangers. Those things are priceless!

image26891.jpg

image26892.jpg

Lights are done and now it's time to trim off the fan leaves.

image26893.jpg

We'll let everything else dry before trimming any more. Isn't she lovely? All that color! This was what I wanted from this strain, and she came through brilliantly.

image26894.jpg

Mmmmmmmmmm. Frosty.

Now it's time to get more seeds into soil.

My day is going to be emotionally challenging to the tenth degree. I will still make every effort to make joy the dominant expression of the day. I challenge you to do likewise. Working in concert we change the world in a powerful way. There is no greater power than joy.

:Namaste:

SS-
For foliars, I mix at 1 ml per ounce (30 ml) of water.
4 oz. sounds like a lot for 3 toddlers, but no biggie. Remember, DeStress can be kept for about a week in the fridge after mixing, but Brix should be used immediately with any left-overs thrown out.

Thanks Major. I couldn't remember that and haven't had time to look it up. I'll toss the rest and will mix the rest at that rate. For these few plants, one oz. should be sufficient. You are such a love.

We're moving Dale to a hospice center tonight. Need to roll him a monster joint before then. What a day! He'll be safer, have his pain better managed and I can be free to consult with lawyers to get some retribution from the nursing home that damaged him so badly. I'll probably spend some of my nights as well as my days with him, so I need to figure out what to do with the garden. This place isn't any further from our home as the nursing home was, so I can easily bus it back and forth.

I'm so relieved they had room for him. Hospice people are angels that haven't gotten their wings yet. These are the kindest people I have ever met.

Agreed. I don't know how they do it, but I'm glad there are people who can.

For these few plants, one oz. should be sufficient.
Sounds perfect. I went with 1 oz. for quite a while...then 2...then 4...now 8 oz.

We've decided to discontinue dialysis.

Our thoughts are with you both Sue.

Must be just about impossible to come to terms with that decision.
I wish I knew what to say... :hugs:

The hug says it all Major. :hugs:

This is actually the second time we came to that agonizing decision. Back when they said "End Stage Renal Disease" we spent a tearful weekend celebrating our years together and decided to forego dialysis entirely and simply wait for the end. His nephrologist took an hour out of his busy life to convince us otherwise. At that time we determined that when his quality of life slipped below acceptable with no possibility of improvement in sight, we would stop.

Having been here before in no way lessened the pain of this discussion. We quick dried a small bud from my Dark Devil and smoked a joint. We talked, and enjoyed the joint, and laughed, and cried, and commented on the sweet tint of citrus in the joint, and cried and decided that quality of life in passing should be our concern here. Dialysis is only delaying the inevitable.

It really was that crazy a conversation. Interspersed with the climbing high from that joint, it was a strange and wonderful time. Two hours later and we're finally alone again after having family in to visit, and we're still high. Nice plant. A very pleasant, calming high. With quiet again, we can sense the high and there's a body rush beginning to hit. Fairly potent for fresh cut, and that's being cautious. This one should be delicious after a proper cure.

How strange to have the different segments of my life intersect like this. Helping my husband with his passing and him doing a smoke report on my latest harvest as we discuss his choice to welcome the end. Life is too weird sometimes.

We find ourselves calmer for having made the decision.

Thank you Major, for your concern. You're a good man. I'm proud to know you.

i'm hurting for you and dale sue,, wishing you both can find some peace..

We already have nivek. I discovered that his hesitation was in his belief that he would suffer. Hospice's whole purpose in existing is to alleviate pain and suffering and to offer peace and comfort instead. There was great peace in knowing that. Once he accepted their assurances the decision was almost instantaneous.

It's suddenly not as painful nivek, so join us in joy.

Dale is going on an adventure that his body has not done before. But that hardly matters, as his body is not part of the journey. This is a point of departure for both of you. I sincerely doubt it is a goodbye between your souls. May you each have the awareness to recognize your personal needs as well as the needs of your partner, and may you be aware of each other after your bodies part.

A big hug for Dale and yourself. :green_heart::hugs::green_heart:

Thank you for that Rad. We were speaking of this earlier. I told him I want him to watch me grow and watch me become an individual expression of joy, where we've been a shared expression for 34 years.

There's this wonderful sense of peace that had been unattainable before this move and decision. The staff here is absolutely marvelous.

I took the time today to remind him of the stars and the importance of remembering that when the time is right.
