The Joy Of Growing - SweetSue Goes Perpetual

I've enjoyed the discussion. Thank you to all who contributed today, or yesterday as the case may be, since I'm writing this at 4:32 AM. Looks like I'll be awake for those 5AM Brix foliars after all. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Haha and here I was thinking I was the only one still up!

It is indeed a "poor man's SIP," and is not as fresh a concept as some may believe. One of the cardinal rules of SIP is using a soiless medium - largely peat based. The amount of water that is taken up by capillary action and held in the soil is important. Organic matter like composted forest products, worm castings, and other composted materials tend to get saturated in SIP systems and lead to heavy muddy soils - over watered syndrome.

PeeJay, would you think that the modification we worked out for my CC mix (lightening it to half strength) would help to make this soil mix more receptive to the SWICK then?

Mornin Sue, just droppin by to say hello and hope ya have a great day. Thanks for your tolerance with me.:Namaste::thumb:

My tolerance of you? :laughtwo: I'm so glad you guys tolerate me. I'm not doing a whole lot yet to make the Kit look as good as it is. It'll get better as we go on, I assure you. Talk is cheap, so it's time for results.

I enjoy the banter Duggan. I'm so glad to hear the unique girl in your group has begun to dazzle you. I'll be so tickled if she turns out to be extra special. I've a soft spot for the underdog. I like the way she never gave up as we so casually discussed tossing her out the door. I learned a valuable lesson there to keep the faith. How sweet of you to help me learn that life lesson at just the right time. :battingeyelashes: :hugs:

You have a wonderful day now.

From my experience, cannabis is happier being slightly under-watered, than slightly over-watered. YMMV.

I believe you Major, and that's going to be a challenge for someone who also uses a SWICK with good results under my LOS. I am, however, starting the next occupant in that pot in the Tiny Closet, so times they are a changing. Growing roots 101. :hmmmm: Maybe a lesson plan would make my mind pay attention better. Thanks for the inspiration for that Major. Interesting concept.

I'm starting my day with a few hits from the quick dried Auto Jock Horror x Auto Amnesia. Only a few hits, because I still have to get a box to the post office and have my eyes examined for new glasses, but also because four to five is my limit with this plant. Just to show you how little that is, here's an example of one of my cannabis fragment hits. Multiply that times five, max. Yeah. I'm feeling pretty good this morning. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Now, I really need to get out the door. Later. :battingeyelashes:

Re: I f-ing love science!

What we need here is a side-by-side SWICK vs. non-SWICK. If none of you get on it, I'm gonna dedicate my next-next grow to the topic. Two clones of the same strain, same soil, same light, same tent, one SWICK and one non-SWICK. Then maybe we can put this topic to rest because otherwise we're just measuring our... uh... plants.

I'd be very interested in checking that out.

I am also posting this as all my friends follow sue . I want to stop and thank everyone for the help and support that has gotten me this far Love you guys:thanks::thanks::bravo::bravo::circle-of-love:

PeeJay mentioned something about transplanting soon so we'd have our first look at root structure. Keep an eye out.

Sitting in my favorite office space working on the update and feeling just a wee bit human and vulnerable. I had my eyes examined this afternoon, and it was a sobering exam, to be sure. The eyes show the very earliest stages of cataract development and (yeah - it gets to be more fun) the optic nerve in one eye is enlarged, suggesting the beginnings of glaucoma. More tests are called for after I secure medical insurance.

Considering the stress of the past two years alone I can certainly understand the pressure increases. Those I think I can bring under control with good meds and some daily meditation, so yeah, stop putting that off Girl.

The cataracts surprised me, but then, thinking of all the time I've been playing around in the tent without glasses on....... Maybe hang those glasses on the front of the tent so I can't ever forget and buy myself a visor to wear in the tent. I also determined to do my Feldenkrais movements every day because they include some sweet ones for strengthening the eyes. Daily Stretch means Daily Susan.

Confronted with my human frailty I immediately laughed it off and developed a plan of attack. The laughter has to count for something. One of the things I like best about this site is the way you guys keep me laughing. :laughtwo:

Learn from this people. Eye protection. Don't think you're invincible. You're not.

I'm m/l in the same boat, Sue. My doctor told me both are common when you are 60-something. In fact, he said he would be surprised if I didn't have the beginnings of cataracts. Still - no fun. Another piece of the body to monitor and attempt to de-stress.

Daily Update: Perpetual Tent - Week 10, Day 6

Let's start with the babies, why not?

Just coming up through the surface in HB Kit soil is Auto Jock Horror x Auto Amnesia. :slide: Let's see if I can improve over this paultry harvest. Excellent smoke. Beyond excellent. That was how many hours ago? Still buzzed. Still giggly in the face of anything. Looking forward to better yield.

Auto Jack Herer is a bit compromised there, but the true leaves are coming in fine.

image28634.jpg

Buddha Tahoe OG (in LOS) decided to join the dance too.

image28635.jpg

Medical No Name (in LOS) breaking free from the soil solution.

image28636.jpg

A glance over at Strawberry Blue.

image28637.jpg

That's it for the youngins. The mystery seeds will surprise me if they come up. That leaves only Dark Devil Auto in HB Kit soil to make an entrance.

African Buzz, at Day 65 and clicking right along. She's actively pushing out new pistils and thickening up.

image28638.jpg

image28640.jpg

Auto Destroyer distresses me. This was a happy little thing before the CAT drench. Exasperating. Remember, this grow is about survival Girl. Remember that. Allow yourself to feel good that you kept them alive.

image28641.jpg

image28642.jpg

I can do so much better than this. * sigh *

image28643.jpg

Cheese Candy, also at Day 66 and contentedly purring away making thick and dense little colas all over the place.

image28644.jpg

image28645.jpg

The pistil change is progressing at a nice even pace. I need to do a top dressing for her I'm thinking - just a bit of Yum Yum mix and some EWC. She looks like close to another month to me. Let's see if I can make myself let her go to the last gasp. I'm good for jumping that gun a bit.

image28647.jpg

Environmental monitoring.

image28648.jpg

The seedlings all got watered. It gets dry up under those lights.

Auto Jock Horror x Auto Amnesia and Auto Destroyer both got a nice Brix foliar before I finally made it to bed at 5AM. Geez, will I ever regulate sleeping patterns to what passes for normal in my time zone again? Maybe if I relocate to the center of the country so all the people I enjoy talking to in the middle of the night were closer to my time zone. Barring that highly unlikely scenario, ........ No. :cheesygrinsmiley: I have unprecedented freedom. Just try to enjoy it Susan.

No other activity in the tent.

Tiny Closet

The Afghanis are impressing me with their vigor. What a hearty strain! I think I'm going to enjoy them, and they'll be just what I need for the daughter. If all three turn out to be female I may get enough to get her through months of bedtime meds. Her psychatrist just started a new med at a super low dose because of her sensitivity, and I'd like to get her away from those types of meds ASAP.

image28649.jpg

Carnival (on the right) looking so sweet. I'm going to be partial to this one. Just sayin'. :battingeyelashes:

image28650.jpg

That's it for today. I'm going to head home now and finish my research on the strains for this cycle so I can get the info into some type of tight overview. It's been lovely enjoying the peaceful atmosphere along the river. May this post find you having a delightful day of your own. Get out there and spread the joy people. I'm feeling joyful that I scratched my lense last week, forcing me to get the eyes examined about six months earlier than I'd planned. Think of the damage I could have done in that amount of time by not being vigilant about eye care. Whew! I feel like I dodged a bullet.

You know I love you all, don't you? I thought so. :battingeyelashes:

:Namaste:

Man has this ever resonated with me. In the past month I've caught myself going into my veg twice without sunglasses which is entirely LED... and I have sunglasses, good ones and multiple pairs. Watering at midnight though tends to make me forget about them. I keep a pair taped to the door so I won't forget and be too lazy to go find a pair once I've carted out 20 gallons of water.

I meant to add in my edit that there is apparently a case study in the works at UW showing massive repair in patients with cataracts through CBG strong cannabis type treatment. I'm not sure if it is through ingestion of the oil or through inhalation. I'll hit my buddy up over there today and try get more info for you.

I don't know about that PJ. I've been using 2lt SIPs for the longest with great results in soil; even better results when it's with your Soil Mix. The trick is to not re-fill the reservoir as soon as it's empty but wait until the soil drys out somewhat.
