I was reading that the larger and more healthy the root ball, the more resistant to heat the plant is. So with that, she now sits in a giant, comical looking 10 gallon pot.

Perfect doesn't exist. Everything has a flaw, especially if mother nature is involved. Give her time, that's what she needs most.
