This is where we are at now after a little bit to stabilize. I'll get a leaf reading on the heat gun before bed to see if there was any increase.

Hey guys can I ask a question here? I see you all using calculators for vpd. I have a handheld vpd ray gun that tells me room temp, leaf temp and leaf vpd. I’m sure you know these exist so I’m wondering if there’s a reason you arnt using them. Like they aren’t accurate or something like that.
This is what I have and wondering if maybe I should use rh and room temp from other sensors and find leaf vpd manually. 🙏

I use an IR gun because its cheap lol. I bought it years ago and it is still here. I also run scenarios thru the VPD calculator so I know what adjustments to make before I make them. I lkke to fiddle and the calculator allows me to see how different scenarios can create the same VPD. It sounds like a great tool tho. Your link didn't seem to work for me.

There’s another link instead to the same thermometer.

Running different scenarios makes perfect sense, I was just thinking that what I am using wasn’t any good. I leave it inside the room so it’s always got a good rh and ambient temp.

I have that same gun and my biggest problem is maintaining the environment when I shoot the leaves because I always have to open the tent door so it skews the readings.

I leave my tents open all day but have the door in the room closed, so that’s never been an issue yet. If I was actually able to dial in some of the environmental variables it could be. I think the gun works good, I just saw this thread and no one was using one and all had vpd calculators going. So I figured there had to be a reason. And there is!

It looks pretty cool. If mine ever packs it in I'm gonna grab one of those.

That's a good point G. I take air temp and RH remotely and then open the flap and zap a few leaves.

Ha! Your so spoiled!🤣🤣🤣🤣

My biggest adversary is the morning i water with 4gal. That day during lites on im fine, easy to meet the humidity coming out of those 5gal fabric pots (3) lites are on its warm in the tent.
But that nite after a morning watering i cant lower the humidity at all, but the next day and days following the humidity drops to levels that are acceptable

You could change the water daily to refresh the dissolved Oxygen. ❤️
Ya know,I really did not consider that at all lol I change every 2 days and I'm sure the act of changing daily gets plenty of oxygen to them dirt ticklers 😂 I def was not really serious about blowing bubbles round the clock....just wanted to give y'all a.... mental image of my question....for clarity an all that.....

I never check humidity at night. I have my exhaust fan set to a humidity controller so if RH gets too high the fan kicks in.

At night plants flip from transpiration to respiration. During respiration they use the sugars that transpiration created during the day.

The exhaust from using the sugars is CO2 and water, so RH will always climb at night if they are respiring correctly.

Right now it's lights out and I have RH set at 60%, my fan is running. The 4 small plants in a 5 x 5 8' tall tent are respiring a lot of moisture to get my desert air up to 60% and above. Plants build sugars all day long to use them to grow in the dark.

Will do! Speaking of that, I have to get a vessel to bubble in! The churn is coming to this grow.I haven't been out to the hydro store since before Thanksgiving. Last time I went in they gave me a pack of Mass Medical seeds to try.
In a gallon churn he goes with

1/8 tsp dolomite lime
2 oz worm farm leachate
2 oz aquarium water
1 tsp bee pollen
1 tsp alfalfa meal

Bubbled 24/7 added to ro to make 50 to 65 ppm.

He also has a dolo water recipe.

1/8 tsp dolomite in 1 gallon bubbled for 24 hours then the liquid poured into a jug to store and use to make 5 to 15 ppm above the water you have.

It would still be a great video🤣🤣🤣

Got anything growing right now @Waywardwayne ?

I do, any one is welcome to stop by and laugh at my poor attempt/failure with environmental control.

👀 bee pollen! Isn't this a bit rare? How can using 1tsp of bee pollen per potion per grower on the planet not harm bees? 🐝🐝🐝 What's the properties of bee pollen that are needed. Can't you find that somewhere else? I hope the rarified weed is worth the sacrifice 🐝

Sorry, I am not shooting the messenger, just asking panicked questions. Aren't we already doing enough to exterminate bees and now we must add their precious pollen to our weed potion. Dear gods... :meditate:

Thanks Stone😊🙏

Does he say how often he uses it, and does he still add dolomite to his soil mixes prior to cooking?

Geeman I got a question. My leaf temps are anywhere from +/- 1 degree from my ambient tent temp. Taken on both plants at the same time.

Ambient temp in the tent is usually about 78 F. With rh at 60%. With lights on. Leaf temps are anywhere from 77 to 79 F.

My question is should I bump the light intensity up to increase leaf temp? My ppfd is roughly 450.

Bee pollen is a pretty non invasive harvest where only a portion of the pollen is harvested leaving the rest for the hives needs. This is assuming that it's done responsibly and with the proper pollen traps. There have been studies comparing hives with and without pollen traps and they haven't found evidence that the pollen traps affect the health of the hive. It does affect the amount of honey produced though.

Lol I worked for a guy who was bee crazy and I asked him the exact same question! I googled this after typing and added in some missing pieces like the honey thing because a lot can change in 20 years since I was around bees.
