The Chiefs White Widow & White Russian DWC

sweet sounds good. i just had a question about the ph. why do people that do dwc or flood and drain always worrie about there ph being between 5.6 and 5.9. im not sure if its just because its in strait water and nutes. but being in a soiless medium (perlite/vermiculite) i would think that ph issues would be the same. i can put mine in at 5.8or 6.1. doenst seem to bother them at all. i actually think they like a moderate swing. please explaine to me why your so concerned with it or what happens to your plants when ph is slightly off.

haha heres a couple examples to help explain that to ya

Heres a pic of them sitting in 5.9 PH'd water

That's a good bit off difference. Thanks for the pics to tell the difference.

i'm glad to help. my last plants would have been a little more perky if they were in 5.9 PH'd water. the last grow was alot less picky about their water. the "White" family strains are very picky about their environment im noticing.

wow what a difference with that small of a ph difference, I usually try to keep my hempys around 5.8 because of the chart on BPN's website, and to be honest with you my water comes out at 6.5 and after nutes it seems to be between 5.4 and 6.0 so I haven't uped or downed in more then 2 weeks which is proabably like 6-10 feedings and they have looked good to me but after seeing these pics of yours I might try to really control it I wasn't going to worry about it until there was a noticeable problem but I may rethink that. Everything looks real good I'd love to give DWC a try seems very neat and I really like the idea of seeing whats going on in the under world.:goodjob::peace:

that pic was taken 4 days ago and are on page 42. the left plant (white russian#2) was at 5.9 and the middle (Widow) was at 6.0. ph is HUGE in DWC alot more touchy than soiless mediums. soiless is way more forgiving and NOTHING like hydro lol. if i dont adjust my ph for a whole day those plants will drink 1/2 - 3/4 gallons of water and the PH would go from 5.6 to like 5.9-6.4. these strains are real touchy after 5.8 water for me

that droopy pic was from me not adjusting them for a whole day.

Well I just read my way thru your grow. Yup, DWC is for those that have lots of time for Ph'ing and PPM testing, watching for root rot, changing and cleaning reservoirs and bask in the pure joy of awesome plants. As for an excellent soiless medium one could do far worse than 3 parts perlite, one part peat moss and one part fullers earth ( automotive floor sweep). Growth is better than any organic set up I have seen by far and PH/ PPM are not much of an issue within reason. Some plants will have their personal zones but generally easier to follow than DWC. I had a two hole DWC setup years ago built into a big Igloo cooler. I used 15-30-15 miracle gro and epsom salts for nutes, what a ride, no PPM meter so it was all by trial and error (lots of error) but I pulled it off. Must have been real tough plants! I retired it after I figured it out. I have been thinking about doing it again in my less lucid moments. I think watching others do it will be good enough for me though. By the way outstanding grow you are running!

hey dr.redwhite you got that right bud. DWC is time consuming but i have a bit of time i can dedicate to my plants.. they only need about 45 minutes a day total of attention but on rez change day that turns into an hour to an hour and a half. i have a small amount of plants so i dont mind the work but when i upgrade to a bigger set up ill be doing it like miwa and do both soiless and hydro together. thanx for stoppin in bud.

I see your widow and barry bonds have the same agent see the same doctors and for obvious reasons get the same prescriptions. THOSE ROOTS ARE BEASTIN!!!

hahaha best compliment ever! these roots are uncontrolable. i'm running out of room in the bucket for the roots lol.. i still cant get over how thick those roots are.. look at those thick ones coming out of the upper part of the mesh pot. thicker than my phone charger is now. they used to be the same size as my phone charger wire

Looks like you got everything down to a tree man or tee I should say. Those roots are amazing. Wow if their 2ft tall before you flip youre gonna hav a monster lol.

hey soap :high-five:. hope you dont mind a lengthy response.

i normally would have flipped by now and gotten the blooming over with but i have soo much head room in my closet that i want them to get as tall as i can. if i have this much room then that means i can fit alot of weed into there. the bigger the plants the bigger the yield. i'm in no rush in fact this grow is 20 times faster than my last grow. im half way done already and i feel like i've only grown these plants for a couple weeks. once i flip they'll be 8 weeks old so next week is looking like the date to flip.

I found some pics to compare this grow to last grow. The first pic is of my master kush and afgooey the end of their 7th week in veg using General Hydroponics 3 part. The 2nd is of this grow 5 minutes ago, about a day away from begining their 7th week of veg using Advanced nutes 4 part (2 part grow, 2 part bloom to be used)

You can see my 3rd plant in the far right corner of the last pic so dont count that as part of the 2 im focused on lol

WW and WR is looking good...i'm just getting my DWC dialed in...plant kept using water driving my ppm up...this morning was the first time my ppm was down and ph was 5.7 from 5.2 even the plant height increased...so this week is ending good...i might flip mine when you do..DWC is time consuming..i think i will stick to soil...
