The Captain's 1st 420 Grow: Blue Dream & Girlscout Cookies In Soil

I'm subbed, I like how you LST'd those top branches to the leaves! Luck to you, cheers!

Thanx! The leaf guide, is a little trick I came up with out of necessity. I had an outdoor grow, and I needed to start training, but had nothing with me and wouldn't be back out there for a stretch. I looked around and found some ditch row vines, and tied the new growth to the leaf. Worked like a charm!

Despite the little deficiency, this lady has had plenty of new, healthy growth. I believe part of my problems, are due to my well water being too hard. I saw signs of PH instability with the water, creepy up, and down on its own. Slurry tests on the soil averaged 6.55-6.61. Switched to RO yesterday, so fingers crossed!

This girl is mos def feeling better, and loving the light! The yellow tint the new growth had, is turning darker, and the leaves look fuller as well. Fingers crossed!

I switched over to the Fox Farm Trio for my nutes today. I was really looking forward to using up my AN micro, grow, and bloom, but I think the combo wasn't cooperating with FFOF, or my water very well.

Anyone ever have trouble with the AN trio causing PH troubles with FFOF, OR Well water?
PH would raise and lower sporadically, and I think the "PH perfect" was fighting to do it's job.

The ladies are reacting well to the Cal-Mag treatments, although 1 BD is looking shaggy from faulty drainage in her container. All new growth is looking fantastic, so I'm not to concerned.

Two phenotypes, one of each strain, have been totally unaffected by the water issues, and lack of humidity. I'll mos def take clippings from both, as they have been "the good kids" out of the lot.

I’m running the connoisseur a&b and all the nutrients to the grand master nutrients in the bud labs app. Tried changing my ph and it fights back , the next morning it would be back on 5.5 ph !

That's my problem too. I'm very adamant about keeping my ph at 6.5, and didn't have ANY issues until I used the AN trio. I do also suspect that my well water may be too "hard" for it, and contributes to the AN fluctuations.

I did some more slurry tests on the soil with just ph adjusted water, and it averaged 6.5-6.6. Out of 3 separate tests, 2 were at 6.52. Even after a few hours setting, the ph stayed near 6.5, dropping down by .03 and raising back up slightly by .02 and I feel it was not going anywhere "unstable".

The 3 slurry tests with the AN trio added, started similar, but all dropped to 6 and below after about 45min to an hour. 5.8 being the lowest number. At that point, I figured it was part of my problems.

To be fair:
I have not run the slurry test with RO water, so my well water could be contributing to the problems as well. I switched to RO to ease my mind about the "hardness", and have a stable starting point.

When I prep my water, and nutes, I generally let it set for 10-15min and confirm the ph stability before I use it. However, after this, I'm now mixing in the A.M. and testing in the afternoon before using.

Note: PH tester is always checked for calibration, and stored correctly. All water is checked at 69°f -70°f...room temperature.

Nice setup, journal and gorgeous healthy plants @Captain Cannabis the topping and lst is gonna definitely increase your yield. I'm using Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil also and notice that you don't need any nutrients other than Cal mag for the first 3 months or so of veg as long as they have room to grow their roots. I'll be tuned in to see how these genetics grow out. Anything with cookies in it should be fire!!

Thanx! I had read alot of mixed opinions on FFOF being "hot", so I only added Cal-mag every other watering. I'm using it everytime now. I did give them 1/4 dose of grow big today though. I will take your advice on the 3months, as I've seen others mention that too. I usually mix my own blend of soil, but all the nurseries are froze over with snow right now. FFOF was the closest thing I could get. I like it, but I don't "know it" like my blends yet. ;)

Out of the 2, this is my favorite Girlscout Cookie. She is thick, strong, and shows signs of being a colorful flowering phenotype. She has a strong, but pleasing smell when touched. Nodes are closer, and she's shorter than the rest, so I think she's a lil more indica than her sister. You can't see them, but she has 4 main branches under those big fans. I did some tucking on her today, to let some light down there.

Ahoy there Captain,
I have fond memories of using straight Ocean Forrest
and had decent results. Best wishes.
p.s. my girls really enjoyed worm tea over the top of ocean forrest during flower once a week.

Thanx Dave! Great tip. I've been collecting ingredients for my bloom teas the last few days. Nice to know someone used them on FFOF.

Well got a "clipping" from my donor pheno Blue Dream, sooner than expected. Snapped a branch during training today, damn these ole boney fingers! Ha! She's doin' great otherwise.

I think this girl has grown quite a bit since my Thursday update. (posted photo above)
Overall, the whole group has thickened up, and all have tons of new, healthy growth.

The training is going well, and the bottom "tops" will be even with the uppers in the next
couple of days. When they get there, I'll trim the inside 3 leaf fans, to let more light in.

Haven't been showing to many shots of the Girlscout Cookies, so here's a couple shots:

GSC#1
She is mos def more sativa than her sister. I fimmed her, and successfully got a tri-top. Her training is going great!

GSC#2
Here is a downward center shot, to show my branching technique. She will have 6 mains, on account I miscounted. The others will have 8, with the exception of the 1 I snapped training.

Here's a group shot from this mornings feeding. They are getting close to their up-pot, as they're pretty dried out after a day and a half. Right on schedule, the beginning of week #6, they've all indicated their female preflowers. At the end of week #8 I'll probably up-pot, let them adjust, then switch. Probably.

Did a light defoil on me ladies this afternoon. Trying to get some more light on all the new growth in the middle. Removed all the 3 finger fans, that create alot of shade.

I have had that ph issue a number of times in my grow. Usually with the same plant. Then it happened to two of my clones. I think it happened when I used straight tap water. My medium is very picky. 5.8 ph exact and I have quantum boards as well. I feed an additional 1ml/l of cal Mag or I have deficiency issues.
