Testing The ViparSpectra XS1000 With VetSmoke85

The Pineapple Gum and White Widow are pushing out the soil now. Should be opening up by tomorrow I expect. Through my own fault I may have lost the 2 Tangerine Dream though. I thought both seed casings had cracked before planting them but I must've been having a moment. After some careful digging I found one that hadn't germinated yet and the other I didn't find. So the one I found has been buried and added a bit more water so there's hope yet. Thankfully I had 1 seed left so that's soaking now. Could still be okay so I won't panic yet. Never know, I might end up with two popping out in one pot. Lol

Been there done that

Pineapple Gum is here to say hello. White Widow is up but the seed casing is barely open. Fingers crossed that changes today.

Looks like the White Widow is some kind of dud or mutant. It's sat with the shell barely open for a couple of days until I very carefully opened it up. Now it just looks like an alien embryo on a stick. I'll give it another couple of days to see what it does but I've dropped another White Widow seed in water just in case.

We have a Tangerine Dream arrived which is a relief.

The Pineapple Gum is just doing what new seedlings do. Looks happy to me.

The White Widow, looks like she might still have casing on her? Sometimes there's a casin that gets stuck and need gentle removal with tweezers after moistened.

Here's an example from one of mine a while ago, normally it's translucent and hard to see.

Yeah had that a few times. In fact the Pineapple Gum was like that. I'll have to use the microscope on the WW to see if there is something still wrapped around. It just looks like a weird blob to me.

I figured it's something you've dealt with before. I did the longer explanation for those who haven't.

This is what caught my eye and why I asked:

Just to the left of the red line, it looks like that.
Either way, hope she grows through!

Under the scope I could see there was a small amount of membrane on there.

Removed that and these white cotyledons parted a little. Looks like it half developed and then just stopped.

Beautiful!! Membrane! That's the dang word I couldn't remember!

Give her a day or so, and she'll green right up like nothing happened!
Good job on the micro surgery, I always get nervous removing membranes.

Oh cool. You think it will be okay then? Ha ha I just get stuck in. If it dies, it dies.

Always tough to say, but caught that early, and removed that well (seriously- I see zero damage :thumb:), she should do just fine.

Good to see you back in the saddle again, Vet!

Looking forward. :Rasta:

Great to see you back Vet! Looking forward to watching your grow.

One of my current plants, a Mango Sherbert, was similarly stuck with a membrane wrapping it's cotyledons, I ended up poking a pin down between the cotyledons and dragging it forward to 'rip it' open, because when trying to 'operate' with tweezers and misting, I just ended up pulling it out of the soil. Needless to say the cotyledons wouldn't open after several days of being clamped closed, I had to hold them open several times a day and even used a twig to keep them open before they started to come good, but now the plant is looking good and healthy. That incidentally is the first time I have had a mutant survive, and right now I am super pleased I didn't give up on it.

Fingers crossed this one turns out good. It has started greening up now but being an auto it concerns me it'll end up a runt. I've already dropped another seed in a shot glass so I'll prob plant that in a small cup to get going and be on standby.

We're getting somewhere. Sorry about the poor pic quality. Think I need to tinker with the settings.

Pineapple Gum enjoying herself.

@Weed Seeds Express Tangerine Dream #1 is making moves now. #2 should be with us in a day or 2.

White Widow is getting some colour. Weird though. Lime green and brown/purple.
