Tdoggs first bubble grow (White Widow)

High Tdogg

It looks to me like you have some algae growing in the rockwool and your line feed is causing it to run into the rez. Some peroxide in the rez will get rid of the algae without draining and scrubbing it out. If you soak the rockwool with a dilute sol'n, 1-2%, of peroxide. Just mix the drug store 3% stuff 1 to 1 with water and wet the rockwool with it with the feed lines off and it will kill the algae without hurting the roots. Rinse with water after 10-20 min and re-apply.

If you cover the rockwool with some styrofoam or other light-blocking material it will help prevent the algae growth.

Your air-stone could be plugged with algae so I would replace it with a new one. Take the old one and soak it in bleach or peroxide to clean it up and it can be re-used. Your air pump could be underpowered or have a hole in the diaphragm reducing air flow. I'm not sure what pump you're using. I use a dual outlet pump rated for a 30 gal aquarium to run two 12" stones and the water bubbles great.

Hope that helps. +Rep to take the edge off your worries!

Okay well.. I have had a LOONGG day to start off with lol. I have followed Roseman's 8 step recovery guide to kill that dumb algae.. Also went ahead and just cleaned the entire rez while I was at it. So my rez is now algae free from what I can see. Got styrofoam cup things covering my rockwool, re added my nutes. So hopefully everything is good now, wish me luck. Should have an update coming I don't wanna show my babies the way they are lookin now tho lol, wait till they get more healthy first.

Thanks for the help, Yeah im going to have to get another 12" stone cause mine is cracked from idk what... and I got the 28 gal/hr sunleaf single outlet pump. I can get airstones at walmart right, like for aquariums?

yup, right back in the pets section, they've got'em all. i had one of those bubble sticks from sh as well, and they sucked (mine cracked to) so I threw it away. just grab the ones that you see in Roseman's tutorial, the 14'' ones kick butt. (I've got 2 of em, and one 12 inch) trust me they LOVE the bubbles. don't forget to soak those stones 4-8 hours either before adding them! hope everything turns up for you Tdogg

Yeah yours cracked too! That's crazy, I guess i'll be going to walmart sometime later I only have the single outlet pump so a extra air stone will have to wait until I get another pump.

Thanks for the kind words, Im not gunna give up unless they completly die, and then ill just start over lol.

Well, my pH meter came in and well.. that answers some questions for me. I tested my water and the ph was 7.5! Knew I didnt need to trust those strips, cuz obviously I haven't been reading them right or somethin... So I corrected the pH down to 6.0 hope that wasnt to far of a dip at one time.. But at least I can keep good track of it now.

Plants seem to be looking better, but not good enough for a photoshoot, that will have to wait.

I would just like to thank everyone that has came and visited my grow journal and all the help and knowledge you all have given to me, my plants would be gettin abused badly if it werent for you guys lol.

I should have an update tom or the next day when my plants are looking better :)

Stay Green,
Tdogg :thanks:

Hey there Tdogg...glad your plants are looking better. I was worried for a bit there, but I saw several people jump to your aid with solid advice that seems to have paid off. I think that rocks! Can't wait to see your next update. Hopefully the little-ones are doing just fine. Stay up.

Soo... I'm still having problems, my pH has been rising constantly and I've tried to balance it out and it just kept on for a few days. So then I decided to do full rez changed... and clean out my rez AGAIN just in case I left any algae. I added my 5 gallons of about 7.9 ph water then mixed my other gal up with 1/4 dose micro & grow. Tested the pH of that and adjusted it down to like 4.2 4.4 something like that and then added it. Tested my pH and it was 6.4 which I though was good enough so I left it. 6 hours later checked it and it was up 7.5! There is nothing going in my rez but my feeder tubes, waterpump, NEW airstone (soaked for about 5 hours in pH balanced water), and my 1/4 micro & grow nutes. I thoroughly cleaned my hydroton at the begin of the grow ummm, I poured hydroton peroxide thru my rockwool and hydroton due to algae problems, then poured just reg water thru it. Idk wat is causing my pH to just KEEP on rising.

Any help appreciated :thanks:

PS. But my plants do look MUCH better than before despite the pH spikes

First off, if you have a filter, check your pump and make sure there isn't any junk in there like some of that old algae, if it checks out alright, check your manifold, and feeder tubes. I like to clean mine with a can of compressed air and that should solve that. I was having the same problems with my ph, and it was my filter inside of my pump, i had to clean it every time I noticed a crazy spike in my ph. if you can pick some of this up from the pet section at wal-mart, or any other local pet shop. it should help stabalize your ph until you up your nutrient strength. start off with 1/2 of the recommended dosage, and if problems still persist use full strength. works like a champ 2. C5 put me on to this one Tdogg, and trust me it is definately official, I hope that helps man

yo t dogg i posted n the Deep Water Culture thread but ill do it here also if u let your water set for a day the chlorine n your water will evaporate and help stabilize the ph

chlorine is not good for any plant

Thank you, its seemed to stabalize some so im going to pH down again see how long it take to spike up and then if the problem still there then I will look at my waterpump filter, then if it still causes me hastle go get Easy Balance stuff.

Day 18 (Day 14 Veg) Jan 18

Ok well I have been fighting algae problems and pH swings like crazy. Last nite I found algae AGAIN, so I put some peroxide in there until I could do a rez change. Also took the water pump out last nite and let it run in water/peroxide. So this morning I have done complete rez change cleaned everything.. let the pump and airstone run in some water with 2 caps of bleech, hope that doesnt hurt anything. I checked my pump but I don't think it has a filter so im going to go get something roseman suggested that goes around my pump and acts as a filter. Hopefully that dumb algae doesnt come back! Sooooooooo I guess I'll post sum pics of my plants even tho they arent in there prime so don't laugh lol.
