Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

Made another this morning (OB Wan OG). I think I let it hang dry a little too much as the jar it was in was steady at only about 73%, but I wet down the husks and it seemed to go fine. I don’t know how you guys are getting an ounce or two in a husk, mine so far have both been ~14 grams. This time I used the sushi roller but it still couldn’t have fit an oz or two.

I pulled off a .6 gram chunk of the OG Kush one when I let it out to dry. I rolled it in a joint with some regularly cured OG Kush and it worked fine although my grinder didn’t really like it much. I got good and high but nothing crazy.

I think the key is to squash the hell out of it. It also damages the cells of the bud, which probably helps the soup form.

I agree with BigBear. I smashed the hell out of those buds and licked my fingers clean when I was done. Lol! Got an ounce down tight enough to get into a husk. That intense manipulation would have to have some effect on the fermentation.

With fresh husks you have more space to work with.

This is one of the knobs we can turn in the whole fermentation process.

Tight vs. Loose wrapped cob.

I personally like the idea of tight rolled/ wrapped but I'll bet a loose one is different in the end.

So I am still playing with dry buds because I don't won't have a decent sativa harvest coming anytime soon. I rolled three more cobs (very tightly wrapped). One was primo trimmed buds. The second was middle sized untrimmed buds and the third was the same but with a small amount of fresh buds from a premature plant to maybe inoculate the cob with whatever live bacteria that might be present on the bud (if it is actually a microbial fermentation).

Good morning Everyone!

Sweet! :high-five: I love a curious nature.

It occurs to me that the canaries are the equivalent of loosely-wrapped cobs, without the husks, of course.

My gosh....we have years of exploring before we begin to understand the pattern behind the chaos. :slide:

Gave me goosebumps. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

Here’s am idea: how about loading the bud into the vacuum bag and smooshing the hell of of it while in the bag, and trying to roll form in in the bottom before vacuum sealing. The vacuum is going to tighten up everything and get rid of the air in between the vegetable material. Think of the vacuum bag as the corn husk.

So how do u ferment the cobs?
Plastic tub on a heating pad??
Seems I saw wet towels too

Mine should be outside the dehydrator soon, don't see any moisture in the bags

Here are my GT cobs after five days. I'm not really seeing the colour darkening, I don't know if it supposed to be. Besides the smell of warmed up corn husk, there's a bit of a sharp smell, like a hint of wasabi. I'm taking it as a good thing..
The mini cob (roughly 8-10 grams(?)) seems about the same as the big one in smell and appearance.

Let the olfactory system guide you. That snap you picked up is microbial activity. :slide: Let them dry to the touch and get them sealed back up.

Well done Weaselcracker. :high-five: Remember Neiko thought his was off too, but it turned out to be excellent. Trust your nose. :battingeyelashes:

I like what Neiko worked up. I put mine in a paper bag and dropped them into a warm enough space in my tent.

They’ll still be damp when you open them. Surface dry and get them back into a vacuum. :high-five:

Photo dump, lol

1st one is Carnival, 2nd is ACDC
Just pulled them from the 24hr dehydrator. Not sure if temp really was 104deg or not, we shall see
Testing in a clone dome on my heating pad for temp, then Gunna open the bag, check moisture and smell, then go from there

Ahhh.....guys, you have my heart skipping a beat all over town. Lol! Looking good Chris. I'm particularly interested in what you get from the ACDC, but that Carnival cob looks luscious :slide:

Hey, on my way back from Cali I'll be in your neighborhood for a couple days. Maybe I can get a taste??? :battingeyelashes:

If you dont get perspiration in the bag after 24 hours sweating the buds were too dry going in. Its a common mistake made by first time cobbers.
Its not like jar curing so it takes a bit of getting used to. I have limited uploading where I am for the next 3 to 4 weeks or I could post lots of pics but I will post a few to show what to look for.
The changes in color after 24 hours sweating are not that huge you just need them to start to change.
The greatest changes in color occur during the post sweat cure and can take anything from 1 week to 3 weeks to get to where you want them to be.
After you get the color to where you want it it needs to be set by drying and then aging.
The pics below show the sort of sweat you need to look for and the change from the green color after 3 days curing.
The last pic is from a friend and master curer Redeye 24/7 I have lots of pics of his work he just sweats and cures in a bag without corn husks and his work is very sort after in the connoisseur clubs he frequents.
Once I get back to the city I will post a lot more pics to make it easier to follow.
