Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

I use a mat from VivoSun. But just for seedlings.

My Cob Test #1

I grew two Lemon Candy seeds on a 12/12 schedule from germination to harvest. One grew in soil, the other in coco coir. I didn't know about cobbing until after the soil plant, which finished first, was already dried and curing at 62%, so I cobbed most of the "Lemon Coco" plant and dried the rest normally.

Last weekend marked the 1-month mark since the cobs went into their long cure stage, so I was eager to compare buds and cob from the same plant.

First, I notice the cob is quite moist. It doesn't cut like hash does. It comes off the cob in a way that reminds me of loose tobacco -- kind of stringy. Smoked in a bong, the taste was subtle and the smoke very smooth. It takes a while to burn it -- you have to hold the flame over it as you draw so it won't go out. I didn't try chewing it.

I tested these over a four-day period in which I smoked the cob exclusively one night and the bud exclusively the next. I filled the bong's bowl to capacity in both tests, so I was using more or less the same quantity of each. My initial impression was that the buds got me higher (and what a surprisingly pleasant ass-kicking I got from them!). The second round of tests had a similar result. I definitely got higher on the buds than the cob.

Next, I'll seal up the cob for another month, and stash away some of the buds so I can repeat this test twice more -- once at the 2-month mark and again at the 3.

How much did you dry the cob before smoking it? It makes a big difference when they dry out. I usually cut my testers then let them sit out for a few days before smoking them.

That looks amazing, JustMeds!

I didn't dry it. That's probably where I went wrong! I've let a piece of the cob sit out since Thursday, so I'll try it again tomorrow. :) Thanks for that tip.

Also, it’s not the same kind of buzz, so it’s easy to misinterpret at first. I find the high much deeper, but more subtle, if that makes any sense.

I’ve also learned that the longer they cure, the stronger they become, at least mine have, pretty much across the board.

I enjoy smoking both, but I see myself reaching for cobs more often now that I have more selection.

While I was getting all those jars in order I realized that the smell of the Jamaican cob was calling me. It’s a CBD dominant, so that caught me by surprise. I decided to follow my nose and give some a try.

When I got back to the tray with my small piece I had to laugh at how I’ve begun to set out a collection in the morning, much like Graytail does in the evenings.

Now I’m gonna try that Jamaican cob and see what that’s all about.

@tangwena, did you find that rabbit? :laughtwo:

@MackMcMacMac, my cobs come apart like tobacco too. My knife gets too gummed, so now I just jank a piece off.

I often pick up the smell of fine tobacco in the smoke hanging about on exhale. Fascinating, isn’t it?

@SweetSue is spot on with the selection. I know what gets reached for around here. It is also funny how such a weee little bit goes a long ways. SS you are also spot on in the description of the effects. I am finding that the larger amounts placed in the bag have an even smoother smoke, not sure why yet. That White Widow we have is so good.

Sounds like the experiences I have had with Mushrooms, I don't realize I am effected until I
stop and think about how I am interpreting the world around me

The one thing I couldn't find in my reading were how tightly should you roll the buds to create the cob formation (or simply tighten as much as possible?) and would there be any benefit to using parchment paper or something over the mat when rolling the cob to prevent stickiness of the mat and possibly keep as much THC on the log as possible as opposed to getting it stuck around the working environment (if this makes any sense)

I roll as tight as I can. A few pages back people were talking about using press and seal film for this very purpose. I use a silicone sushi mat to roll mine so I’m less concerned.
