Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

Hard to say I’m guessing a month or so all I will have is dwarf low flyer, unless I try some I purchase hmmmm. How would I check the moisture content to move forward with some Nuken I have?
It would probably be too dry.

Not necessarily. How are you storing it? Put it in a jar that leaves about 1/4 empty with a hygrometer. If it’s less than 75% - and it likely is - you can try adding humidity to the buds. I do that with a slice of apple, wrapped in silk and suspended over the buds in a larger jar than I check the humidity levels in. Leaving them overnight has worked for me.

This doesn’t guarantee that you’ll get the intense effects a regular cobbing will, and the practice is still not something we’re sure is worth it, but then again, it makes the smoke smoother, and in my experience it made the end product better than jar cured.

OMG @JustMeds. What have you done? Not that I’m complaining, mind you. Quite the contrary. :slide:

What did I do?

I like the shorter ferment cobs so far. They still have some great aroma's. Longer ferment more moisture buds are more like hash in texture and aroma's are diminished alot in the end.

See? Look at how much we’re learning already. :slide:

You, sir, opened the portal to this fascinating rabbit hole, a move that will forever endear you to me. :battingeyelashes:

Wow, a JH score is huge for this process. I think patience is the key to success. Sampling at about a month is highly encouraged. Like Tangwena told me, "find the sweet spot in what you like and dry them to preserve that sensation in the cob." Youse a gonna like it for sure!

My last harvested flowers are nearly dried to good RH. Still tweaking GigaBud and Ayahuasca Purple but the others are looking good. I scored 14 oz dry on the last run 3 weeks after harvest. Out of that, 2 oz in in the cobs. I want to post a compare between the flowers and the cob of Gigabud. I think Ayahuasca Purple flowers needs a bit more cure time.

I'd recommend starting a written journal of your sweat times and temps, ferment times and temps and take notes at each test about smells and effects. I'm finding I didn't record it well enough to reproduce anything. I tried writing on the bags but that gets cut off and re-writing it on a new bag gets old. I'm getting quite the collection of cobs now and I couldn't tell ya what to do to reproduce any of them. I have some that are yellowish gold to dark.

It's going to take some experience to find the sweet spot I guess. I have no clue when I've hit it yet. I haven't had a bad sample yet and I was under the impression they just keep getting better as they cure. Is there a point where the cure goes too long? Are you picking the sweet spot based on smell? Great smells are nice but it's the effect I'm after in the end.

With cannabis you always want to be led by your nose. There’s a subtle communication going on between the brain and the gut that’s led by the olfactory system. To pick a chemovar for yourself you choose by smell.

I’ve found that some call to me more, and that can change depending on how my body feels today.

I agree about taking better notes. I started cards, but then all I recorded was dates and weights.

What I didn’t note was how they hit, and how I consumed them.

We came to this cold, and IMO the first order of business is to find the chemovars we appreciate the most in cob form and then spend years perfecting our preferred cures.

Over 100 pages in our first month. I think we’re doing well for the time invested. I’m amazed at the passion and gratified at the joyful participation. :battingeyelashes:

Just can't sit on the sidelines any longer. I find this thread fascinating! Im not a recreational user but I am seeking a more comfortable clear-headed mild euphoric effect to combat depression and other symptoms associated with ptsd. Always looking for a better mousetrap!

I harvested a large grow of 11 different chemovars in April. I air dried overnight, jarred them and placed them in the freezer. Do you think these are still candidates? They're being stored at my hogar soreno and I won't be back there until about august 1; this will put them about six months after harvest. Any hope of proper cobbing?

I would think there would be lots of moisture left in the bud. Check moisture content of bud it will tell you. Sue told me 75% moisture lever is desired

Freezing will burst the cell walls when you take them out. I’m not sure that’s compatible with cobbing.

Have you considered an infused oil and a capsule regimen for a baseline endocannabinoid tone? It may help control symptoms better micro dosing 3-4 times a day with oil and smoking when you have any breakthrough or just want the euphoria.

Capsules would make this super easy to do and that stock of buds could easily be turned into fresh harvest oil.

At 10:45 I weighed out 0.4 gr of the Malawi. It just slammed into me as I sit on the doorstep waiting for my friend to pick me up for our luncheon date.

Whoa! Good thing she’s used to my over-the-top indulgences. Lol! Wish me luck! :ciao:
