Tales From The Krip!

Happy New Year Krip! I have seen a lot of cannagars and have wondered how much they go. I have seen a lot of molds for making them on IG. Most people use leaves to roll them in and I see a lot of people put kief in them as well. They then seal them with oil. I almost started making them but have no real reason to. The molds are spendier than I like as well. But I guess if I could get $10 plus for less than an ounce it would make sense lol.

Just a quick thought: The view portals in grow tents are made for people who run HPS or MH lighting. I have two tents with viewing windows and, when I look through either of them, the only thing I see is the tops of my LED's!

Yea k I was thinkn about ur light blocking issue and I had the very same issue with my breeding tent and veg an flower tents I jus put black duct tape up the insides of the tube alil ways on each side then put some old micron screen I had cut out of my old bubble hash bags but my guessing is any type of screening would work. Anyway thts just what I did an it worked great hope this helps brotha. An happy new year man hope u had a great holiday the girls are looking fantastic bro congrats. Oh hey have u got a chance to try out the new trimmer yet or no? Also u shud post some pics of it If u havnt already lol I notice I'm a bit behind so off to catch up.

QUICK UPDATE

Sorry I haven't gotten to any replies in a few days but will get that done today! In the mean time, here are some pics to hold everyone over.

The two Dolatos greened right up after the Destress & heavy TP (as did the two smaller ones in the veg tent) and the one that was real spread out is starting to fill in with the other girls in the main tent. Everything looking good, just need a couple more weeks of veg:

Mr. Krip! My ears were ringing Senor!
Blew dust off of the grow light and popped some beans. I'm just going to continue on my last Journal.
I'll have a few hours to peruse around. Happy to do it! Best of the Best for you and all as well brother.

Awesome, Brother! That means I don't need to sub to another one!
Whatcha got planned???

Things look good bud! I am not sure why but Dolato does not seem to like to clone. The first clone I took was fine but I could not get it to root the second time around. When I am rooting clones I spray them every day or every other day with half strength destress until the have some nice roots. They love it!

I haven't had any issues getting them to root, but it seems they're either heavy feeders early on, or just take some time to get hooked up with the soil. They greened right up after the Destress and a heavy feeding.

Alot of plants take aminute to root.. If I have some on hand,, I almost always got a bottle of superthrive under the counter,,, good stuff for a tonic, but I prefer to water in some of that

'LIQUINOX START with Vitamin B-1. Quart A transplant solution of growth-promoting substances that includes Vitamin B-1, Alpha Naphthalene Acetic Acid'

It gives the roots alittle kickstart in tuff times.. But they look like they are going kick in in aminute or two.

Hey some of these big outfits are getting hella rich Penny.. I just wondered if he didn't make it for himself? Hella publicity stunt? Some peoples really have money to burn???

Yeah, I keep a bottle of SuperThrive in the arsenal, too, and it's helped me save more than a couple plants in the past, but with Doc's HB kit, his "Destress" is the "SuperThrive".

HOW TO PROPERLY DRY & CURE

OK, so this is not actually a tutorial on how to dry & cure buds but one of my "Grow Bro's" just wound up with mold in every one of his jars and, basically, ruined his entire (rather nice, I might add!) harvest; and I hope the following info can help others prevent that. While not complete, it should be enough info to not have mold in your jars!

I posted this in response to someone suggesting Turkey Bags as a possible way to prevent the mold, which is why my response references the Turkey Bags.

Turkey bags are just big jars. They allow you to cure more bud without having to burp multiple jars, but it wouldn't change the humidity of the buds.

You need the buds to dry to below 70% humidity before jarring or putting the the turkey bags. Once jarred/bagged, you then burp the jars/bags a few times per day (initially, then less as the buds continue to dry) until the RH gets to 62%. Once at 62%, the buds can be stored long-term and will continue to cure as long as the RH stays above 55%.

Once below 55%, the buds are out of the "cure zone" and, even if re-hydrated, will not cure any further. The Boost/Bovedas are not effective at removing the moisture, but they are effective at keeping the buds in the cure zone for long-term storage (prevents them from drying out too much, too quickly).

You really should use hygrometers to give the exact humidity. The buds dry from the outside, so while the outside is crispy, the insides of the buds, especially the larger buds, are still quite moist. Once jarred/bagged, the buds "sweat" the moisture from the inside and, very quickly, the outsides of the buds will be moist again. When you burp the jars, it allows the outsides to dry up again, leaving the insides less moist. Continue this process and, eventually, you'll sweat all the moisture from the insides of the buds and the entire jar will maintain something like a 62% humidity level, at which point, you can stop burping without worrying about mold.

The larger buds can go through MANY cycles of jarring/burping before you get all the moisture out and, coincidentally, I've just dried some HUGE buds that are curing now. Each of these buds is probably over 1/4 oz and is right around 65% RH now, so still getting burped - and they were jarred over two weeks ago! I'll post some pics in my journal when they're finished, since it's always tricky doing buds that large.

IMHO, you can always try to guess the RH, but hygrometers are really a requirement to effectively dry & cure buds, and they are cheap. I think I got a 4-pack that fits into mason jars for about $15. You'd have to be pretty good to tell the difference between 72% RH and 67% RH, but one will cause mold if jarred and the other is in the cure zone now.
:Namaste:

Happy (and mold-free!) Harvests!

BLACKWATER PRIMO BUDS! :yummy:

In my post about curing, I mentioned I was curing some huge buds that were something like 1/4 oz. each. Well, the buds I was referencing are the four top colas from the Blackwater.

Here they are:

I used lined paper for size reference and, when I went to weigh them, I found I was a little off....the buds range from 7g to 11g each for a total of 36g, or an average of 9g each!

The only issue with photographing them is that, to get the whole bud in the pic, the camera needs to be zoomed out enough that you lose all the trichome detail, but here are a couple of bud shots:

And, here are a couple zoomed in for the trichs:

So, a couple of notes.....

First, those buds are really good examples of the importance of proper drying & curing. Buds that big/thick/dense mold very easily if proper RH isn't maintained and/or they're jarred too soon.

Next, @Pennywise, I really wish you (and everyone else, of course!) could smell these jars, sample the smoke, and take a clone! I know you've been looking for a grape pheno and the Blackwater not only "passes the smell test", but is also some awesome smoke! :thumb:

It is really some fantastic meds and is helping my dad for his pain, so just took a couple cuts this morning and will run a couple again next round. :slide:

In the mean time, we're about two weeks from flipping this round and I'll post some pics on that later.

Happy Harvests!
