Tales From The Krip!

Damn!!! Ok, the idea to hold onto is that life doesn't happen to you, but for you. Thank goodness they found the mold before it made you sick. What a pain that you have to move out for so long.

Darn it all anyway, all we want is uninterrupted growing. This tearing down stuff just sucks. It's a good thing. You'll have time to reset everything and come back stronger. :hugs:

Where will you live during this time?

Thanks, Sue! :thanks:
It's really more of a PITA than anything else. It's all part of an insurance claim, so at least it won't cost me anything and, by the time they're done, I'll have a whole new house! :)

I don't yet know where I'm going to live, and have an added issue with my Golden Retriever. I have some neighbors that are away and emailed to see if they'd be willing/able to rent their house for a month, which will make life much easier (if they agree to it!) in terms of being able to monitor what's going on here and take care of some other things around the house (like maintaining the outdoor fruits & veggies).

I'll make out fine...the worst part is that I would not have popped those new seeds if I knew this was going to happen since I can see it easily being two months before I'm back in & settled, and have something new setup (new tent, filter, lights, etc.).

OK, real quick update on the seedlings...

They're doing great & just pushed out their first little leaves:

Now...ready for this???

I've completed my new temporary DIY veg cabinet!!! :yahoo:

Now, don't laugh!

Here it is:

DSCN34535.JPG

It's an 18 gallon tote with the lid cut out and a piece of burlap held on by the cutout lid.

It took less than 10 minutes and $20 to make, although, I still need to drill a few drain holes on the bottom, and possibly some on the sides also, for ventilation. It does let air and water through. It will cut down on the sun, somewhat, but should be fine for vegging and, even with the burlap, stronger than the mini T-5 I have currently in the veg cabinet.

It should be large enough to hold all six of the vegging girls for at least a month, especially since I'll be keeping all but two as Bonsais. You definitely have to remove the lid and burlap to see what's inside, so even with an aerial view they'd be obscured.

As much as I prefer hydro, I think I'll also transplant them into soil, which should help. If I put a drain hole about 1/4" up from the bottom on the sides, in addition to my visits, they'll be able to use the rain and sprinkler water.

I'm basically just gonna put it as-is (with plants inside) on the patio in back. Once again, hiding in plain site! ;)

It's not pretty, but I think it will do for a month, although, I'm a little worried about heat build-up, which is why I plan on drilling the vents in the sides.

Happy Harvests!

Genius! This is what I live for. Innovation Brother. It is a great idea. So curious to see if/how it works out.

QUICK UPDATE & MORE BUD SHOTS

I drilled out the drain holes and vent holes in the "temporary veg cabinet" and transplanted one of the Blue OG clones from its mini hempy into a 4" soil container. I put it in the tote about 2:00pm this afternoon and monitored it every hour or so until about 7:00pm with no signs of wilting, so I think we'll be OK as far as the heat/ventilation. And, you don't even notice it out back, so the stealth is great.

I really love, as I'm sure virtually all will agree, the cannabis plant. In addition to everything else, it's incredibly beautiful in virtually all stages of growth.

My favorite, however, is during the swell when you're starting to see what those finished buds will really look and smell like!

The buds are now heavy enough that I had to tie them up to support them and, when doing so, I got a good whiff of my "sticky" fingers and could immediately smell that diesel smell! :yummy:

Here's the latest...

This is what she looks like now with her colas supported:

Before I get to the closeups, I thought I'd do one of those traditional "lighter shots" for size comparison. Even though it's only a 5' tent, there will be none of those mini bic lighter comparisons here!

Here's a shot with one of those grill lighters, baby! :)

OMG! Those buds are huge Krip. That first pic really puts it in perspective. I'd tie all those branches up. Mold is a real suspect when the buds touch each other. And those buds are huge so they're particularly suspect. Not trying to preach just trying to share experience. :Namaste:

You're 420% correct! I started tying them up yesterday, but just did each side collectively but not the individual buds, yet. The buds are not really touching, except at some lower points on the stem and maybe a few of the smaller lower buds, but they are stacked on top of each other and as they continue to pack on weight, I'm going to have to keep tying up more individual colas. Thanks for the "heads-up"!
:thankyou:

I spoke to my dad earlier and, after watching the videos I sent him, he want to try the RSO! :yahoo:

Which reminds me, in a very early post I said that the MMJ had been helping him with the pain from the PHN but not really helping him with the Parkinsons. That was incorrect and just based on early input!

He had told me a few weeks ago that, in fact, he was experiencing significant improvement with his tremors from the MMJ.

In any event, based strictly on Rick Simpson's advice, I've been looking for 90%-100% Indica with THC levels on 20+%.

Here's the list I came up with for my next seed order:

Barneys Bad Azz Kush Feminised Seeds
Barneys Cookies Kush Feminised Seeds
World of Seeds Mazar x White Rhino Feminised Seeds
White Label Cannabis Seeds Company Master Kush Feminised Seeds
World of Seeds Afghan Kush Feminised Seeds

Seems like a lot of kush to me, so hopefully we'll be able to find something to help him in that batch! :)

I hope it's not too many that are too closely related to see any real difference. :hmmmm:

Hey Krip,

One day I was dealing with a moldy plant and decided to try to help the inside of dense colas fight molding. So I came up with this.... grasp as many leaves as possible on an entire bud cluster and pull it down and away from the stem. Careful! Don't rip it off. Think of it as individual bud lst. I'll do it all the way up as far as they will reasonably let me. It gives the clusters more room to grow and keeps the air around them. If there is a leaf stuck back in there there I'll fish it out or cut it to keep air between. I've seen better, more even buds. They fill out on the inside a little better rather than cupping and forming to the next bud.

Sure, I like a nice tight cola like everyone else. But lets face it, once it's disassembled it's just buds. I say give the buds more room. Pull those colas apart next time. OK, just try one.

Just my 2 cents.

They look awesome man. Love the stealth box.

Looking like you might have something tasty? Them damn LED's sure are misleading to me. One of these days I'm going to give LED's a try. I always have to shut down my veg tent and cut back on my flower room in the summer. I draw my cool air from under the house which stays cool enough to run alittle, but not all. And my veg tent is in the garage so that gets pretty warm also. I guess I'll never know how much they raise abient temps till I get one. Cheap ass stupid idiot I am, I'll probably get a cheaper mars to try it out,,,, only to find the most common disease ever grower ever had, that I should've got the larger one........... disease.

Don't know how big your tents are. Mine are MarsHydro 27" square. I also got a MarsII 400 for each tent. Sorta wish I got the 700's.

IT'S A BITTERSWEET DAY!

The first Blue OG clone I transplanted to soil and moved to the new veg tote had its first full day in the sun yesterday and did fine, so I transplanted the second clone and moved it to the new veg tote.

I also put the new Cherry Bomb & White Widow seedlings outside in a shaded area, just to start hardening them off since they're going to get moved to the tote soon, too. So far, they're taking the heat well, too! :thumb:

I then tossed out two perfectly good bag seed seedlings I had started as backups, and I HATE composting perfectly healthy plants!

Then I disassembled my original custom-built DIY cabinet! :rip:

It's crazy how proud I was of building that cabinet yet couldn't show it to anyone except my friends here on :420:

It easily helped grow 300+ plants and was a space I'm used to checking first thing in the morning when I wake up, since, at that time lights are still out in the flower tent.

Here's a quick pictorial tribute to my old veg cabinet  :

Here's what you saw when you walked into the room:

But, behind those closet doors, magic happened! :) :

That plywood box on the top-right of the cabinet is a fan enclosure to help muffle the sound of the exhaust fan:

Here it is back when I used to keep it packed:

DSCN18362.JPG

I'm definitely going to miss that cabinet and not sure what I'm going to do to replace it. I started to consider just getting a single 4'x4' tent and vegging and flowering all in there, but it just won't allow me to keep the strains I want to hang onto, so I'm going to need some separate veg area other than that tote for long term.

I'll get a pic update or two in over the next 24 hours, or so.

Happy Harvests!

QUICK PIC UPDATE

I haven't done res change today and will probably wait until tomorrow with the other things I have going on right now.

Both of the seedlings got LST'd by the wind while being hardened off outside yesterday. There stems were pretty thin and they were starting to get top-heavy with their first set of leaves. I gave them each some support and by this morning, the Cherry Bomb was back standing upright on her own and the White Widow and been blown off her support and was leaning back over! :hmmm:

So, I transplanted the Cherry Bomb into soil and put her in the veg tote. And, I doubled up on the supports and hoping the White Widow will stand back up on her own before I transplant her, too.

I tried to get some quick flower pics...

I've had to start tying up some of the individual colas:

DSCN34834.JPG

It's tough to tell how thick they are since they're all stacked sideways:
