Inspecting things yesterday and notice that bud density is starting to be an issue. Tonight I dug out a 750ma driver, chunk of scrap aluminium, and 2 3000k Vero18s to cobble something together. When the adhesive is dry tomorrow I will run a few tests. I didn't want to do things this way, but I have plants in full blown flower that need more light tomorrow, not when I have the money in 2 weeks
Also decided that I am going to throw my Red 1100k cob back in for more (hopefully) flowering spectrum. Found out from some die hard led guys that i had the wrong idea about that color temp and was trying to use it like a far Red initiator when that is simply not what it is.
Adding these to the tent will add a total of just shy of 90w to the current 240w...

Connected all appropriate wires and mounted the fan and driver for the Vero18s. Still have to hang them but initial testing has proven everything to be working well and very very bright. I will take some pics when I get them hung up. Pretty rough looking, but I've always been an advocate of function over form.

The design is rough but those Vero18s are running cold as ice. Will have to put a fan on the 1100k cob, she has a smaller heatsink and is rated to pull 60 volts. She has always run hot though... I predict visible improvements in growth.
I have a lux meter on my phone and will try to get a couple readings at the canopy later on. I know that is not the most important number as far as light goes, but it will give me something to work with more or less... I need a damn quantum meter, but cannot cough up 180-400 bux for one.
That Punto Rojo x ( Mazar x Guerrero) is due for chop on Sunday. Wife said she thought it was ready yesterday, but I want to stick with a solid 10 day starvation process.

I flashed myself by accident once and I won't be that careless again. I can see pinholes in the tent with the room lights on that only showed up when it was pitch black.

I used to have $18 on a gift card for a well known auction site....
So, I decided against the 5000k or 5600k vero 29s for veg. I need to be able to use whatever light I build next in the space bucket for a time. I worked the numbers a bit and I bought 20x 3w epistar diodes on pcb. 10 are in 6000-6500k and 10 are in full spectrum blurple. Total cost is about $12, plus tax and I needed more silicone thermal adhesive. I am going to remove all diodes from the old Mars pcb and use it as a light panel. Going by chip ratings, this should work well with one of my mars300 drivers. ... should draw about 47-51 watts.
Yeah.. I know i keep effing around, but building lights is so freaking fulfilling. Quite a useful skill to have acquired with expansion looming on the horizon.
Hoping my spectrum choices work out. I figured 6000-6500k is great for seedlings and I added the blurple because i believe this will give me a great mix of spectrums for veg.
When I get the grow closet all set up I am thinking about adding on to my 1100k cob fixture with maybe 5x 5watt blue diodes and moving it in there (after I build another Vero18 fixture to replace it) along with another 2 Vero18s in 3000k. Closet has useable dimensions of roughly 20"deep x 60"wide x 50"tall plus a nice top shelf for doing clones if I build a light bar for it.
@beez0404 Sensi NL Tops were dry today. Buds were fairly dense. Smells earthy and a little sweet(smell is much stronger when I pop a bud). The taste is earthy and provides a smooth but robust smoke, doobies are perfect... I think she was a mutant, but I don't think that had any impact on final results except maybe how leafy she was. For what it is worth, I gave the neighbor a top and he said "OMG, Well done" after he smoked a joint. I have to agree, lol.

NL x DDA. 7 days low and slow, paper sack in the crisper method...... this stuff tastes real nice. Smells like berries, tastes like DDA with just a hair more fruit flavor. The high is not intense, reminds me of something that can be smoked all day to no ill effect ... challenge accepted

Kids are being good, had time to play around.
I will pull the Purple Afghani x BCBD Purps out for pics another time. That bucket is heavy with 2 plants growing in it and the way she sits in the tent I can't get a good angle.

So..... I got up to grab my son this afternoon, my phone fell, now my camera is busted. Not sure when I will be able to post pics again as I cannot afford a new phone at all so certainly can't afford a camera either. I apologize to all those following this journal because without my constant pics, this journal is going to get a lot less colorful. I'll be able to snap a few pics with the wife's phone here and there, but any new DIY stuff is probably not going to be documented very well and I won't have much time for glamor shots.

That sucks. A few years ago I was striper fishing. Just standing on the deck of the boat jigging for stripers when Lisa calls me. While I'm talking to her I get a massive hit. When I set the hook the phone falls from where it was trapped between my ear and my shoulder. It hit the deck of the boat and as my luck would have it bounced overboard. I ended up buying a phone off of eBay that was a few models older, used, but it still worked okay.

Yeah, the camera works today. Last night with about 30% battery the phone made a sick buzz or feedback type sound, got super hat, and died dead as a doornail, wouldn't take a charge for about an hour... this morning turn the phone on and all of a sudden everything works? I reset the camera settings last night to no avail, so wtf? Either way I am going to need a new phone.
Made some Bubble hash last night as well. I don't have a foolproof process yet, so the tutorials are a little ways out. But I did end up with the tiniest bit of full melt, about 3 puffs. Freaking awesome flavor. Next time I am goinpito pick up some dry ice. The water is a bit of a hassle when I have to do multiple runs.
Didn't start my Harlequin seeds yet, I am only a day late. I might hold out so I can get a proper led board built for the space bucket. Chips arrive Thursday. silicone on Friday. I still need to strip/clean up the old Mars pcb, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem.... try to get at that tonight.
I'm guessing 2-3 weeks (probably 3) before the next harvest. That will be my fast short frosty purple pheno of Devil's Pitchfork x Trailer Trash Betty. I pulled the red cob out until I get a fan on that sad excuse for a heatsink Just kicks out too much heat and she won't last like that.

Anyway, so long as the camera keeps working, I have the simple DIY led thing and the Harlequin genetic preservation project on deck and Sweaty Betty's Sativas of Summer to quickly follow.

I've decided to start a project myself. Like you I work with a relative small growing area and keeping more then 4 strains alive via mother plant is difficult for me or anyone for that matter. So I've decided to learn how to grow bonsai mother plants. If I do it correctly I should be able to keep 10 mother plants in the same space I currently keep four.
My long term goal is to finally settle on my "Dirty Dozen". I would like to pick my 12 very favorite strains overall. Then work over time to reverse these strains to breed S1 feminized seeds of my favorite strains. Some I will keep as bonsai moms, some I will keep in feminized seed form. And then when I think I have a strain I would like to add to the 12 I can grow a cutting of this plant into a bonsai mom, grow out her mother and see the quality. If it's a keeper I start the reversing process on a cutting off the bonsai mom. Once seeds are in the box I can grow out or get rid of the bonsai mom of that strain.

Do you plan on journaling this endeavor? I am sure that others besides myself would be interested in following you on your journey to 12 mothers. I get a lot of phenotypes out of a 4-5 way cross. Bonsai mothers might just be the ticket to saving a few of the really special ones.
I am considering taking cuts of the Harlequin so I don't have to wait for the seeds from that run to dry... guess we will see, I do have lots of rockwool for cloning. Will be my first time cloning without a bucket cloner.

The hash I made with my fresh frozen buds was fairly low yield. The quality is 3☆ maybe 4 ☆. Super flavor and boy does it have legs. I was laughing uncontrollably, wife said she was proud of me for getting that baked...
