Supergroomer - Back & Smaller Than Ever

How far is she from the light? She's awfully lanky supergroomer. Can we either get her closer or get her under a pair of 23w CFLs? If not, no worries. When you upcan her bury her stem some and she'll tighten up those modes. I start and do early veg under CFLs because you get those super tight node spacings.

Hmmmmm... It occurs to me that letting her go as is and using some LST (that'll make Cajun happy :laughtwo:) might give me the opportunity to test out my theories on increasing yields. He always lets them get lanky like that and then tops off the cup at some point here real soon to get more root development. I'll have to consult with him about that timing.

Thank you for letting me do this supergroomer. You're a good friend. :hugs:

I need to get this pup out for his morning run/walk. Be back soon. :ciao:

Right now she is about 24" from the light. I usually find 2 weeks in the cups give a good root start. I think you will find after the transplant to the bigger pots the Nodes will tighten up alot under the Mars II. The other plants all have very tight nodes and this will be no different. If you still want me to add the CFL's, I will add them, but I have found the best for me is to run start to finish under the LEDs. :circle-of-love: :peace:

I defer to your experience under LEDs supergroomer. You watched me struggle with them in my tent. I still haven't come to a place where I'm entirely comfortable with them.

Thanks Dennise. By the time I get home you guys are going to have me more comfortable with the panels. Part of my problem in my own tent was the fact that the DormGrow 450 suggested 29" minimum, period, and with the whole grief thing going on I never really studied LEDs the way I should have.

Ok. Update time on the Purple Dawg Haze. This girl was looking like she was heading for the compost heap a few weeks ago. Replanted into a smaller pot with very minimal root growth and fed her some clone/seedling formula. At first she looked worse. Then she started to look better.

Today I decided probably 2 more weeks the way she is going till I will flip her. That means a bigger pot!! I transplanted her into a 4 gallon pot. The roots were very well established!! Here are the pics. :peace:

Lovely roots supergroomer!! :high-five: it's so satisfying to save one and have it surprise you, isn't it?

What's the wattage on those? Do you have them in a reflector? Just curious. I've never really looked into them. Have you used them long? Are you seeing good results with them?

I just have this love of CFLs that boarders on near obsessive. :laughtwo: I use 23w and get them within 3", all around the plant. I'm learning to love LEDs. These look really interesting. I'd not considered an LED alternative to a panel before this moment.

There 18w input 100w output I bought them at home depot and picked up some clamp on utility reflector fixtures , I use 3 of them for veg only in a 2x2 room with great results through several grows now.

Hi Sue, I'm using the Mars II 400 and started off 8" away from the seedlings and they grew well in terms of lighting (drowning them is a whole other story). The official line is that the closest you should go with the Mars II is 15". Plants can cope well at this distance but the colours don't mix below 15". I hope this helps in some way? I must say I'm happy with the LED's but they run very cool. So cool that I've had to add a heater to my tent.

Hi SG, I'm using the Mars II 400 and my sweet spot appears to be around 20". The girls shot up and that distance.

When my tents were in my basement, I had to run a heater in the room with the tents. Get the room temp stable and your tent will be stable. I found an oil filled heater on Amazon with a digital thermostat. I set it for 68 and the room stayed at 68. I think the heater was about $60 or so. :peace:

Good to know SG. I've got an oil filled radiator on order and currently using a fan heater. Drying it out with moving air is good right now :-)

So 54 watts is doing it? That's 14 watts less than I had in my 1 x 2 closet I was using for vegging for my last grow using fourT8s. The 800 lumens in the Cree vs 2100 lumens per T8 gave me pause. In my own grow I'll be sticking with starting them under the 23 watt CFLs with 1500 lumens and graduating to the T8s for veg. My LED panels will likely be saved for my flowering areas. That's mostly because it's my comfort zone and I have the lights on hand, but I really like the lumens. I'm going to have to swing by your grow and take a look. Always stay open to new possibilities, eh?

Sue's Carnival day 7

She is 1 week old today!!!:cheertwo:. Give her at least 1 more week and we will see about moving her to a 1 gallon pot. :peace:

Are you using fabric one gallons supergroomer? Not a necessity at all, but HealingKronic taught me the value of upcanning to a fabric one gallon and then burying that pot in its entirety into the finish pot. The roots grow right through the fabric and explode throughout the larger pot. He actually did a comparison the first time he had tried it and found that the plants he did in the traditional sense underperformed the ones he kept in the one gallons and buried. You should have seen the rootball I got from my Jamaican Dream!

Haha! The guys went out of their way to teach me the finer points of the wet/dry cycle on my last grow. :laughtwo: Buried in the 450+ pages of that journal is an excellent tutorial on growing massive, fine haired root balls, with photo contributions from many excellent cultivators.

This'll be my first winter growing where I might need to supplement heat in the grow space. I hadn't considered that until now. Hmmmm, I can't tolerate a centrally heated living space higher than 73 during the day. The air gets so dry I get nosebleeds. One major blowout that requires an ambulance ride to the ER was enough for me. I'll have to look into small heaters. My spaces will be small.

Thank you for letting me share your journal. You probably have a strong sense of how much this means to me. :hugs:

They look like high brix with those lovely shiny leaves.
