I am by no means an expert so take the following with a grain of salt. The author of one of the first grow journals i went through on here before i started my first grow had a chart that was like 15,000-50,000 ideal for veg and 45,000-65,000 lux ideal for flowering. So for seedlings you would want more than 15,000 but probably wont need anywhere near 50,000. So I go for as much as they can take before they show signs of too much light.

To be honest the light meter was a bit of a waste of money for me. I have used it twice. Better to watch the plant to see what it's happy with.
 
Also lumens are irrelevant as measurements for useable light :3

Good guideline, but mostly that's how hid bulbs were measured, just measures visible light

What you want is par and ppfd readings for led

If you can hit 900 across your canopy in flower, you can grow some big colas! :D
 
Day 13 and 11

Gnomie has undergrowth now. Both looking healthy and green. Very pleased so far.

I've been smoking the lower, smaller buds from Mary while i let the best stuff cure but tonight i grabbed one of the smaller tops. Very dense, looked even better when broken apart.

Nice looking girl. Will be interested in watching your topping. Could you post some pix. I think I am going to top most of my Autos. I just finished reading a long thread on topping on Auto's and looks like the way to go. I know your not growing autos but more interested in not fuc*ing it up.

Actually these are autos, but yeah i'll try to remember to take a few pics as i do it. It's pretty easy and is over in a second.

Even better - For some reason I thought they were Photo's. Now I'm going to watch even closer. The skilled hands of the surgeon.

Are you going to top all of them? I was thinking of Topping one of my Ultimate's and doing heavy LST on the other just as an experiment to see the difference.

I"ll be topping and doing LST on both. Have to keep them fairly short with my little tent. Was really happy with the results last grow so shooting for something similar.
 
Day 15 and 13

Gave Gnomie 1L of water with 0.5ml silica blast, 1ml calmag, 2ml big bloom and 1ml grow big, then it was time to top her.

She has 4 sets of full leaves now with a 5th set about to open.

I gently bend the 4th and 3rd set down to get them out of the way

Grab the new set between my thumb and middle finger and gently pinch until it pops off. Just be careful of the new growth on either side and you're golden.

Day 16 and 14

Waffle got same feeding that Gnomie got last night. Topless Gnomie is loving life. No signs of droopiness from last nights water so she's going into a ponytail for 4 hours. Might top Waffle tomorrow if she has a good day of growth.

Looking good SF. Thanks for the tutorial on the topping. My Daiquiri Lime is looking like she is about 2-3 days behind yours comparing at `10 days. Looks like I may be close to topping her in about a week. I'm going to keep an eye on her and decide if I'm going to top her or do LST.

Your's look like they are really liking your gently hand and attention to detail.
 
Hey Supidface! Loving your diary so far. Makes for an interesting read and very helpful :). I've not seen the pony tailing before. Could you give some info as to why you do it and how it works?

Day 18 and 16

Topped Waffle and she's starting to pick up speed. Gnomie is blowing up. She's very frilly. Looks sad in pictures because the light had just come on. She was pony-tailed for 4 hours last night and will have another 4 hours tonight. Might bend her over and tie her down tomorrow or Wednesday. Waffle getting first 4 hours with ponytail tonight. Gnomie should need water tomorrow. Lowered light back to 26". They should be able to handle it now.

As for why i do pony-tailing lets look at Gnomie from the top down

Those top two sets of fan leaves are getting like 75-80% of the light and the rest is going to that lower big set of leaves. When i tie the top two sets of leaves up into the ponytail like this

All those lower sprouts suddenly get full light and it triggers them to get growing. Result is a bushier, and hopefully, healthier plant with more limbs to spread out with LST in a few days.
