Stunger's Organic Balcony: Growing Daughters Of Mulanje: Watering Via Root Aeration Chambers

She does appear to be coming back!- tbh, I gave her up for dead a few days ago...
It's great to hear that I was wrong..and there's still 3 balcony girls out there!
Going to be interesting to see how she handles flowering.. 🤔
That’s great news bro congrats on a successful comeback. CL🍀 :thumb: :Namaste:

Thanks CL! I am not going to bother with her, she is surviving but struggling. Any bud she produces won't be wasted and may amount to a hit or three but that'd be all. If anything significant happens with her I'll post it but otherwise I'm just looking to guide the other 2 safely home (easier said than done).

Update - Some pics - and a forgotten amendment made from the top dressing post - and a surprise

Greetings 420 enthusiasts! It's autumn here (fall) and we're getting some sort of late summer weather which is great as it has been a real wet dribbler for most of summer, it seemed the plants took a hit with their flowering starts, I feel they are 1.5-2 weeks behind kicking off for what I would expect when the garden has a nice long sunshine summer.

The amendment I forgot to mention was Alfalfa

I added about 3-4 tablespoons of Alfalfa meal to the 2 main plants with the previous top dressing and unfortunately left out of the topdressing update I made recently.

A surprise - decarbed some of last year's immature Mulanje as a night time edible

I have previously mentioned that I decarb bud and use it as a night time edible to assist with sleep. Which I find along with a dose of magnesium that seems to work really well. I have alway used my 'old' bud for this purpose and enjoy the cured bud of the most recent grow for day time vaping. Last year's grow is getting used up. For decarbing I have been working through the droughted Mango Sherbert from my last grow. It is now almost gone.

Then I remembered I had an ice cream container of Mulanje bud from my last grow, it was immature but I had saved anyway as it still looked too good to throw away. Yesterday I decarbed some and found it worked wonderfully well as a pre sleep edible. Brilliant, not a waste to have kept at all! Today instead of a usual morning vape or two, I thought I'd test it again. So I consumed another chunk of yesterday's decarbed Mulanje. And I have been buzzing along very nicely for a while now. I just spent what seemed like a couple of minute having an unusual amount of difficulty in trying to balance 2 pieces of toast against each other, only to realise I was trying to do so on their round edge. The Mulanje bud still gives a lovely kick. Still going and about 3.5 hours so far, I am very pleased I kept this, it's fantastic, works great!

If anyone remembers her from last year's journal

I initially dumped her to be put in the greenwaste. But after a couple of days I thought she looked too good to throw out. I originally filled a 2 litre ice cream container of her bud that looked too good to throw away. The container has shrunk to about 3/4 full now. I'm rapt!

The main gals today!

And a few bud shots of the Mulanje Sherbert

She is starting to sticky up nicely now. I am no longer picking up the hint of diesel to her that I thought I did before, more of a soft fruity aroma that is starting to fill the house on sunny afternoons in an obvious way to me but not over bearing that others would necessarily pick up enough to mention, just some distant garden flower smell. It is making me reconsider on getting too expansive in the future because growing outside I have to be sensible with the smell. Just lucky so far with same neighbours all has been good with none appearing to know. I'd like to keep it that way.

Here are a few of her bud pics, still a way to go.

Thanks for dropping in! Hopefully you're all good and doing well! :ganjamon:

Update - journaling some top dressing

Greetings 420 enthusiasts! I just doing this short update because I applied some top dressing yesterday and I wanted to journal it. And plus, this morning after 6 days of collapse, the remnant of the Mulanje ME looked like it was trying to live!

Top dressing applied to Mulanje Sherbert (17th March)

¾ cup of Herbi's Bloom Fert
3 tbsp Malted Barley
3 tbsp Blood n Bone
2 cups liquified worm castings

Top dressing applied to Mulanje HP (17th March)

1¼ cup of Herbi's Bloom Fert
4 tbsp Malted Barley
3 tbsp Blood n Bone
3 cups liquified worm castings

Remnant of Mulanje ME

After 6 days of looking like this

When I opened the curtains this morning, for the first time it actually looked like it was perking up and wanted to live.

Although after an afternoon of sunshine it is back to badly drooping again. I gave it a small top watering of about 2 cups which was the first watering it's had since it's 'collapse', so it will be interesting to observe what she looks like tomorrow morning.

And some closeups of the Mulanje Sherbert's buds

Thanks for swinging by, I hope your gardens are going smoother than mine! :ganjamon:
HAd a look at your Bloom Booster. That stuff is some fine looking organic addition!

Sorry about the Sherbert, Stunger but your other 2 ladies look lush and healthy.

I enjoyed your story about the surprise. Surprises can be nice especially good ones like yours.

So great to hear you're digging the rescued flowers from last year. :thumb:

The survivors are looking lovely in the sun. I hope your weather stays good long enough for that slowpoke HP!
Thanks Shed! Yes it was very pleasing to remember it and then find it had good potency.

It will be interesting how the Mulanje HP goes. It is looking so far like it is producing lots of smaller buds sites, and has a different appearance from it's mother the Purple Honduras/Panama.

I am not too bothered about the time it will take. I imagine the Mulanje Sherbert will be done in 4-5 weeks, so having the Mulanje HP remaining on the balcony for another month is fine because the balcony looks really sad when all has been harvested.
Not sure if you e been told today or not Stung, but I think you’re a fucking legend!

Balcony minus McSickypants is looking brill.
Thank you Tra I was hoping that x rated clip hadn't made the internet, bugger!

Cheers Otter. This is my first grow with that range. I agree it has some wonderful ingredients, I don't think there is anything else that comes close in our local market.

Thanks HG! When you look at the available space on the balcony now, there is only about 2 feet free, the plant that went bad was over 4.5 feet across. What the hell was I thinking?!
good to hear u remembered u have some medicine tuked away for emergecy & whats more important is that it helps ,good one.
it must be a slight relief now that the sherbert has a more pleasant aroma , shes looking goood ,take care , peace :peace:
Thanks Uncle! Yes, always a nice discovery to remember a forgotten stash!
it just came to mind we are now at the equinox , so maybe the sherbert will start to flower at a faster as the night gets longer & the day short , 🤔:peace:
She is pretty well underway now, and I think in another month she'll be looking pretty frosty. Cheers.

Update - It's a fine day, some pictures!

Greetings 420 enthusiasts! We're getting closer to the 'pointy' end of the grow and currently having a mostly sunny day, so here's a few pictures!

Man that Sherbet girl has some fizz!

They are just stunning. Stungers Stunners!

Whats that on the fan leaf left hand side in pic 5 mate?

Is it just an illusion or pest damage?
Thanks Deeve! The Mango Sherbert was the Mulanje Sherbert's mother, crossing it to the African genetics I reckon will make even more of a potent mix. I found a small scraggly bit that was next to nothing but still very sticky and smelly so I use it for a tester in a day or two, should be great.

Re pic 5, I think it is a blade of a leaf on the lower left that got broken and has browned, but other than than I wasn't aware of any damage as such.

Thanks CL! This is the time heading into mid/late flowering when the balcony looks the loveliest. But like the falling cherry blossoms, it looks so empty once the harvesting has been done.

I have been walking past these plants now for 6 months, 1 will go another month, and the other probably 2 more months. It is a bit of sad shock when you look out and nothing, all gone, after seeing them every day for so long.

I don't think training weights are good for my grows because they are exposed to a lot of wind. I have tried weights before, and when the wind was strong it blew the branches and weights everywhere and damage can result.
Yeah, that makes sense in your conditions. I've thought about rubber bands around the branches and tied to some string to hold it mostly in place, but still allowing some give.

In any event, I'm sure you'll figure something out.

Yes incorporating rubber bands could be good.

Because I am growing each year in the same place, there is a constant figuring of what I can do/change to assist this or that. I have toyed with making some sort of grow frames for my pots with which to train the plants to. I am still considering what sort of training I want to do for my next grow, so any frame idea needs to be in line with whatever the training is going to be.

Looking very nice indeed brother!

I have some Mulanje x Malawi/Ethiopian cobs that I grew last year; a very powerful energizing high.

Will you cob a little of this harvest?
Thanks Hombre! I would like to make at least 1 cob from each plant.

I last made cobs a couple of years ago when I used about 12oz to do so. It took ages preparing the bud because I decided to take out all the stalks and stuff that all goes into the authentic cobs, so after 4 days of whole plant hang drying I made the cobs on the 5th day, this time I would look to make them a little earlier maybe day 4 if not day 3 to ensure a full ferment, but of course try to avoid too much.
