Stunger's Organic Balcony: Growing Daughters Of Mulanje: Watering Via Root Aeration Chambers

Glad you and the girls made it through safe and well mate, still have some people displaced and clean ups still ongoing from our recent wild weather.

Looked pretty serious, though they tend to show the extreme end of the effects.

Dont know how you feel but they sure look to me like your best trio yet!
Thanks Deeve! The rainfall/weather on Friday was extraordinary to beat a 40 year 24 hour rainfall record by nearly 4 inches. A lot of people have been badly effected but fortunately for us, we were unscathed.

Yes I agree with you, this trio is so far looking like my best.

They were started early this grow (been going 4 month now). All from an initiaI germination of 12 seeds to obtain 6 seedlings, then culled them down to 3 females. Because feminised seeds for me have been hard to come by and too precious to waste, on previous grows I lost time when seeds didn't germinate, so this grow an abundant amount of regular seeds was great for an early start. And also, I have the root aeration chambers in place this grow, and so far I'd say they don't appear to be hurting anything.

But the main thing for me, is to keep up with the training. Last year I took my foot off the pedal a bit and they got away from me. But this year the neighbour has trimmed some of their trees lower, so as consequence I have to be more careful about not letting them get too high.

Maybe, just maybe, the plants like it better?
After you mentioned your thoughts on 'air gaps' to me, I was sure they would like it, and in practice I really think they do too. At this point, pretty much all my concern is on keeping them hidden while they've gone into rain forest growth mode.

Update - Some brief welcome sunshine after a lot of rain

Greeting 420 enthusiasts! Today we had the first bit of sunshine seen for several days. Last night we got another 'atmospheric river' rain dump. Not as bad as last Friday, but the ground is so saturated that the folk in cliff edge home must be feeling a bit concerned as a number of such houses have had the ground give way underneath them and pools and patios fall away.

Watering. Record rainfall has been the biggest event locally, and as a result the plants have been 'top watered' only for the past week, except one single down pipe watering on the Mulanje Sherbert who sits leftmost and has been a little protected from the rain compared to the other two, I was surprised, she's growing like a trouper but her pot was very light, must be a bit rain protected yet the wind is on them all the time drying them out. I need to be mind about whatever is growing in that position.

Stretching. Yes they'll all currently into it, and my last round of supercropping has now become very disordered due to the weather barring my access to the balcony. I'll be remedying that very soon.

After 4 months the Mulanje Sherbert is getting close to budset and transitioning to flowering. While the other two are still lagging in veg mode.

Anyway that sunny patch only lasted a short time, there's lots of wind here at the moment and it sounds rough outside. I hope you and your gardens are getting all the good weather! :ganjamon:

Wonderful bushes Stunger! :Rasta:

Seems like it would be getting harder to find the watering pipes!

Dang - that's a beautiful sight out there, Stunger!

Thanks GDB! Watering via the down pipes is quick, but you are right, finding them is getting tricky!
Nice bit of sun for a minute but the plants seems to have taken to the weather like white on ducks!

I hope you get a chance to get out there and tame those beasts soon. 🦁 🪑
Cheers Shed! It will be very soon, it will have to be!
Three pretty girls sitting in a row
Rain came down and they did not slow
Hands waving hi, coz their arms are strong
Till Stung cuts their throats to fill his bong.

💚💚💚
Thanks Tra! If I am singing that on the balcony I'll probably be silent on that last line!

Cheers Carcass! At this point the challenge is really ahead of me.

Update - Calcium given for yellowing - 1 plant supercropped

Greetings 420 enthusiasts! After a rough couple of weeks with very little sunshine but lots of rain and wind, the weather is now forecast to get summery, great I'm looking forward to it before the season is over!

Some leaf yellowing seen

In the meantime, I have made some calcium solution from egg shells and vinegar to address some yellowing of leaves, mostly to the Mulanje HP. I might also do a batch as Cal/Mag too, altho I have never ever used either before. So far, after an early 3 days, of 1/3 of a tsp per day of 2-2.1% Calcium Acetate I am not noticing any improvement, I think it is a very modest dose but I am not sure, but feel it best to start small. I am planning on giving them a top dressing of bloom ferts in another 2 or 3 weeks. I will probably make some comment about this in a few days, when then I can hopefully see some improvement or change my approach. Overall, the plants look fine for now being in their 5th month of life, so the yellowing is not a biggie, not for now anyway!

Mulanje Sherbert supercropped

I didn't take a pic before, but all three plants were about the same height. The leftmost, the Mulanje Sherbert is sprouting some pistils, but not yet at what I would call 'budset' stage. After supercropping she is now approx 17 inches high max from the pot rim, and looks a lot shorter than she was before I started. Her stretching is not finished so I will probably still have to supercrop her again.

Overheads

The Mulanje ME and Mulanje HP both need reining in, and in the coming days they will be super cropped too.

Thanks for swinging by, be well and I hope you're enjoying some lovely homegrown! :ganjamon:

You're gonna be the forum's supercrop expert by the time those girls finish, Stunger!
And all those tops!- your bud count is gonna be off the charts!- you may be in danger of ending up with more weed than you need...

j/k... we all know there's no such thing 😉

Thanks Carcass, but no such thing! haha.

I've got in early this year and I have to admit that altho low, these girls are quite big, probably about the same stage as last years but they've reached it a month earlier. This is the tricky part from here on, so yeah if I can harvest more than I need then that's great because I want to start up a reserve account for my old age!

Do you know what your dilution rate was when applied? If you made WCA - Water Soluble Calcium those are done at a 1:1,000 ratio.
