Stunger Tries Trough Growing And Attempts Fluxing On His Organic Living Soil Balcony

Thanks Joe! I'm really looking forward to her buds. The colder nights have turned her a dark purple. Today in the sun.

It's been freezing here, frosty in the morning (not that I'm up that early 😂) but I'm turning purple too...

Update - A pictorial with more closeups of trichomes

Greetings 420 enthusiasts!

Chilly weather this week but the clear skies made for some great Aurora viewing for those lucky enough to view it. Over on my island in the sea you needed to be looking south to view it.

Today there was no wind, and I had some time to muck around and take a few pics for another gander at the trichomes of both plants.

The Super Lemon Haze is really tricky to view closeup because by being at the right hand end of the trough the sun is coming right at you, that's when it would be good for her to be in a pot that can be moved temporarily to a more photogenic position.

And aside from that, the sparrows have been using the balcony planters as a dust bath and then the wind has been blowing what they kick up over the Super Lemon Haze so I will have to give her a good hose down or bucket wash when I harvest her.

Looking close up she is the ugly one so I will show her first and follow up with the more photogenic Mulanje Sherbert.

Half a dozen pics of each plant to show a better average range of trichomes than just a single pic or two would give.

Super Lemon Haze

Overall clear/cloudy trichomes with the very occasional amber.

Mulanje Sherbert

Also, mostly clear/cloudy, with an occasional amber and white pistil.

Last year's Mulanje Sherbert was a sister to this plant and I did the final harvest of her on May 20th, that was after several partial harvests were carried out as stems died off. This year's plant continues to look strong so I will try to keep her going a little longer if possible and see if that further improves the potency.

Thanks for dropping in, I hope you're having a great weekend!

Excellent trich shots as usual Stunger, and it's interesting that the green SLH has more purple trichomes than the purple MS!
Thanks Shed! It's quite neat that purple vein that sometimes travels up the trichome stalk, I wonder what it's made up of.
Good morning Stung :)

How do you get such good glitter shots?

I try and try.
Hi Tra, my camera is quite basic, it has a fixed lens and no zoom, on it's own it is definitely not good for closeups.

For magnification I use a 'clip on' attachment by Raynox. I actually have 2 of their products a DCR-250 which @Lady Cannafan uses and has shown --> here. And also a slightly stronger one, the Raynox MSN-202 which I use most often.

These clip ons behave the same as the closeup lenses that folks use to clip on to their mobile phones for increased magnification of their images.

However the Raynox lenses also have a thread and as my camera's fixed lens has a thread for filter use, I utilise a 'step-down ring' to directly screw the Raynox on to my lens for a more secure fit that then won't fly off if I accidentally bump it.

I can even screw the 2 raynox closeup lens together for huge magnification but the resulting depth of focus is massively reduced and without special lighting and tripod stabilisation there is not enough light to make a good useable image.

The other thing, because I am mostly hand holding the camera I try to use a high shutter speed of 1/1000 or 1/2000th of a second to reduce any hand shaking and wind movement of the plants that will result in blurring of the picture.

I would recommend the Raynox closeup lens but if using the stronger one (MSN-202) it would probably be best suited to a camera that can provide a shutter speed of 1/1000th of a second, if hand holding the camera. If the camera is super stable by using a tripod or resting it upon something stable, and the plant is very still then yes, then you should be able to take closeup photos fine with a slower shutter speed.

Thanks for that.

My camera is so basic you can answer phone calls on it lol.

You take really great pics.

Bloody hell..... no one told me that besides the tent, the expensive light/s, fan, DWC pots, nutes etc... that I also need a good camera!!!!
And here's me thinking it would be a cheap hobby!!!
Well yeah, and that's not even all of it. We don't disclose the entire menu up front for fear of scaring new growers off. But don't you worry, you'll see the full list in good time.

I mean, I guess you will. I've not seen the full list myself. Seems it's on a need to know basis and gets constantly dribbled out. Seems like it will never end.

Update - The Super Lemon Haze gets the chop

Greetings 420 enthusiasts!

This morning I chopped the Super Lemon Haze. She was looking tired and her trichomes were close to where I wanted them. Another week maybe for the trichomes would have good, altho according to the breeder notes she would have been ready last month!?

My thoughts in general on trichomes is that I would prefer mostly cloudy with some amber. However, going on the over all appearance of a plant, sometimes the environmental stresses like nutrition, pests, weather, damage etc, work together to age the plant to where it has had enough. At this point the Super Lemon Haze is 6 and a half months old and by my eye I have pushed her as much as I can and she is now showing deterioration where I either chop the whole plant or I take half and leave the rest for a bit longer.

My last tester of her was taken almost 2 weeks ago and at that stage she was already a wonderful smoke, I am super pleased with her smoke/vape quality and will want to grow her again. So today, rather than piddle around with carrying out a partial harvest I decided completely chop her and hang her up to dry.

The trough goes from 2 plants to just 1

It was overcast and a struggle to get enough light for a decent shutter speed but this gives an idea of her final state.

On this day last year I harvested the sister plant to this year's Mulanje Sherbert. That was after several partial harvests. However this year's plant has been under less stress in the trough compared to last year's pots, and I think that's the reason she is still looking strong so I intend to let her continue for longer while she is enjoying life, and I can see what if any difference this makes to her potency, altho she is a butt kicker already.

I am really behind in catching up with everyone's grows. But thanks for dropping in, and best wishes for a great day!

Congrats on another successful harvest from the inaugural trough!
Thanks Azi! The plants should like the trough considering it's got triple the soil of last year's 3 pots.
WOW, the volume of trichomes is fantastic. You must be a proud father indeed, what a great offspring!
Bloody lovely. :hookah:
Cheers Sax! The plant never really relished the soil and my training of it, but wow, what a lovely smoke.

You had me at "already a wonderful smoke"! Beautiful harvest!

:bravo: Stunger on having the patience to let the SLH ripen to your specs (and the MS even longer!), so congratulations on another great trough harvest!
Thanks Shed! I feel that the larger soil mass of the trough may have reduced some of the heat stress conditions that plants received in their former 'aerated' pots and this perhaps allows them a longer maturity time before limbs start failing.
Since these plants are smaller than previous years, I'm wondering if this is closer to the perfect yield to get you from fall to fall without a lot of leftover from previous years?
No, I am still greedy for as much as I can get!

Last year from my over watering mistake, I was lucky to get a bit over half a pound from the MS and a small partial harvest off another, but I still have half the jarred bud left of the MS because of it's potency and long lasting high meant it lasted well. But looking ahead, I want to build some reserves up in case of any events that restrict future grows.
Indeed beautiful shots and congrats on the harvest 💚
Cheers Jiggi! It's nice to harvest but a bit sad to see them gone.
You had me at "already a wonderful smoke"! Beautiful harvest!
Thanks Otter! I'm quite rapt with it.
