Stonecrusher's Backyard Bonanza - Bringing Out The Big Pots!

Everything looks good Crusher. Even the little "slow auto" has something to give.

So nice that you pay your garden troll a living wage! :Rasta:

Thanks @Stonecrusher .

We think we may be finding that organics in SIPs have different requirements from plants fed with synthetics but we're doing some experiments to try to na
Hi @Azimuth and @Carcass here are the 12 gallon sips I made for growing in a friends garden. I went to check on them last night and was pleasantly surprised to see how they are taking off. He is just giving plain water in the organic soil I re-amended.
What Ive noticed is the sips really go crazy with the early stages, then they can fade after going thru all the nutrients. My question is whether you would add Cal/Mag to the reservoir or should I top water it in.
I have also seen with an Earthbox style plastic cover you can just add mulch mixed with bloom or cal/mag to the top and leave it. Its hard to decide how to go.

You can see how much they grew in 10 days! This photo was from transplant day.

That's what we're testing . @StoneOtter gives his thru the reservoir, but others are top watering. @Gee64 says its important to water and feed calcium at least from above for organic grows since it is heavy and tends to drop through the mix.

I've been using SIPs for over a year now, and I've never added anything from the top except the first watering..
I just put everything in the rez, and the plant takes/finds what it needs...

But mine aren't organic...

I want to clarify my plants and soil are orgainc-ish. I use the term because I start with organic soil. I also add organic amendments, and haven't used synthetic nutrients. But I feel if I add something out of a bag and mix it up it is kind of cheating for a true organic style. Im not opposed to adding a product if it is needed, organic or not.

If you mix organics and synthetics you likely get synthetic results since the microbes get laid off by the free delivery synthetic guys.

Doesn't mean it's wrong, just depends on what kind of grow you're going for.
So far with my first SIP plant the only thing Ive done besides hose water (filtered) is add some Roots Organics Bloom Booster tea to the reservoir and the plant looks really good and has a nice green color.
I intend to keep this grow organic only, and am thinking about adding a new dose of Root Wise microbial. I guess that will just go into the res too.
Two days ago I did a major defoliation after coming home from vacation to a Christmas tree and noticed the top layer of soil is very dry down to 3-4 inches. Ive been running dryer than most advice recommends and only adding 1/2 gal to the res per watering.
I am tempted to moisten it, but the plant looks good so I am going to try not to mess with the process and just be patient. I think the only change is that I will add more to the reservoir and see if the top moistens up, and watch how the plant reacts.

I took some cuts from my Afghan Super Skunk plant two weeks ago to see if I could try my hand at cloning. I stuck them into Coco pucks soaked in RootWise and water and check this out! Three of six developed roots and the other three seem to be hanging in there.
No roots, but still looking good. Will they make it?

The three with roots were begining to yellow and I assume that was because they are hungry. I planted all six in recycled soil on solo cups.
Now it is a battle between rooted clones and the un rooted clones. Which ones will make it? Stay tuned.

This season is turning out to be a lot of fun. You may remember the volunteer plants that appeared this spring. I haven't done much but give them a little compost and some minor landscape love. They are thriving!

Last year in that spot I had pots with the following varieties: Chemdog 4, Northern Lights, Afghan Super Skunk, and one other that escapes me now, but I may have even named it earlier in this journal. Your professional guess is appreciated if you can ID them.

Anyway here they are today. They are both throwing off 9 fingered leaves!

If it ain't broke....

Damn! ...growin' like weeds..👍
I had a volunteer a couple years ago, he got to be 6 feet tall before he started flowering, and I had to cut him down.
Easiest harvest ever...😁

I keep watching them for any signs of sex but so far they aren't talking about it. Shy I guess.
Im going to keep a sharp eye on them.

This morning it looked like my Jack Herrer and Gelato autos grew up overnight! They got a full day in the sun yesterday and it must have inspired them. They even got their first drops of rain which I'm sure they appreciated.
I was considering how to train them and landed on LST. Since they were growing so well I didn't want to do anything to slow them down. I bent both tops down and used some cool car hook stakes to start training.
Here is a before and after. I'll post new pics tomorrow because I think they will be doing some cool things overnight.

Here is a pic from the backyard volunteer. From the early signs I'd guess this is male. Please let me know if you think otherwise.
I'll be sad to see them go. I like the volunteers but this is a ladies only club.
