Stevehman's Advanced LED's Height Test - 720W - Gigabud - Grow 5.0

Again looking great. I was gonna say I feel sorry for the guy who has to trim those down, but i remember you telling us about your little trimbox. ***envious***
I haven't bought the trimbox yet, I will before these are ready for harvest though :) I don't think my hand are going to up for the task. I am going to estimate at least 2 full days on this grow and the same on the other one. I hope they don't finish at the same time. I need to get on a staggered schedule in the near future, finish a grow every 4 weeks. I'm also intrigued by 420fied's perpetual hempy harvest. That type of system may have some merit. I would need to figure out the grams=per-foot, per-day and then see if it makes sense to go that way over a different system.

It's really hard to argue the growth rate and yield of this system though.

Those markers make it easy to see the growth over time. Very logical approach, easy to read, no extra effort to measure. I think I'll adopt that for my BPN grow. I'll need some 15' tall poles , a marker and a measuring tape, and some tall weed. :)
Trying to use a semi-scientific approach to my journals, it helps to have metrics.

I've noticed that my grow 5.1 journal has twice as many replies as this one. I guess it's true, size does matter! Everyone wants to see the 800w porn star of LEDs.

I've been speaking with my roomies about LED grow lights, they want to see results. I am so glad you're doing this, cause when you have big fat nugs I will show them, your efforts will win them over...no pressure. One of the concerns is power usage. I am esp be interested in any increase or decrease of energy consumption. I am already won over, this info would be the icing, no wait the buds are the icing, so frosty and delicious...um I digress, it would be the squaw that stroked the camels sack... I mean, well you know. An in line meter for the light (or whole set up actually)to see exactly how much it uses would be an advantage, i think. Then you would have an accurate watt per equation .
Watts per day, per hour, cost in my area varies during the day, F'n smart meters. Well I think I've sat down long enough. Have a good one!:):adore:

You can see some fat frosty buds from my other journals, all grown under LEDs. I posted the wattage used on them earlier. I need to pick up some kill-a-watt meters so I can get an accurate measurement though. The meter I have only gives you the wattage, it doesn't track all of the data. I have a smart meter too. There's a Google plugin for some of them that will let you track your actual usage for the entire house.

Where you save money is on the cooling. I have an 800w in a 4x4 tent with only and exhaust fan, nothing else and it stays about 84 at the top of the canopy, perfect for CO2 enrichment.

The guy at my hydro shop laughed when I told him I grow with LEDs. He said "In a couple years you will be using those for your cuttings."

When you measure the temps with the laser thermometer where do you aim it?

The guy at your hydro shop is obviously not in the know, nor a member here at 420. Mr. T------>I PITY THE FOOL!!

I'd be suspicious of a hydro shop owner that isn't up to speed on the current technology.

I point the laser at the face, side and top of the light to get the temps on the light and then at the side of the tent at the height of the top of the canopy and at a leaf in the middle of the tent at the same height (both temps are within 1 deg of each other) and then I took one at the floor and ceiling. I wanted to make sure every possible temp was taken. If I missed any that you want let me know.

:adore:You my man have become a great contributor here, and also have become quite well known (and appreciated) for your ongoing experimentations and wonderful grows. Cheers to you and keep up the great work.:goodluck: and :bravo:
Sisco, thank you for the kind words. I didn't start out with the intention of getting this involved, but it kind of grows on you, and it's in my nature to teach, and write.

Congratulations on MOTM, Bro! :welldone:

It truly couldn't have happened to a better 420'er! :bravo:

Mr. K, I am sure you are going to win next month, I thought you were going to this month. You're a great contributor and inspiration to the community.:circle-of-love:

Agreed x 1000 - :high-five:

Dude, you've inspired me, and I am the one honored to know you! Do you realize how it feels that you'd pick me to do the IronBud Grow Competition!?

:adore::adore::circle-of-love:

Grats Steve. Way to go! Can't wait to see what pops up in your next grow. I don't even think strain makes a difference when you grow. It is always special!

That is awesome, just change your light cycle to sweep out the cheapest part of the day!

Congrats man, u earned the motm. Great journals come from great growers. I am honored to be able to read the inner thinkings and processes of a grower of your talent. Keep em green man.

Congrats Steve......beware of the laser pointer IR thermometers.....they are not accurate on reflective surfaces. They work best on a dark, matte surface. Some have a calibration feature to adjust for emmisivity of different surfaces at different temps. Make sure w/ a contact probe to determine if you are accurate or not. (disclaimer....I use one frequently for heat treating steel. Need to have different emissivity settings for different "bands" or heat ranges. If the metal is shiny it doesn't read correctly. Forged surfaces work best)

PS add me to your list of brewers, going on 22 years, been growing longer tho.....
