Steppenwolf's High Brix Grow

I took a few pics during lights out to see if they would turn out. They are OK, but the pics under the VHO look way better.

Large Critical Kush, the top cola is almost all filled in already.

Right 600 has the small laughing buddah, small critical kush and 2 Tikal 12/12 from seed. Also present is the yellowing Flo in perlite, and extra yellowing Harlequin. Both the Flo and Harlequin are kind of annoying. They are the last 2 plants not in Doc's Kit.

Man those are awesome bro!!! They couldn't be healthier. Love that laughing Buddha and the Critical Kush, shit...I like it all bro. Good Job!!

I am kinda amazed so far. Lets see if I can keep it together the next 6 weeks, lol.

Dayum!

They are kicking ass! What kind of worm castings did you use?

I know Doc. Pretty crazy. Ive never grown a plant like the Critical Kush. It fills in almost daily.
Here is a pic of the worm castings I used, Buckaroo Brand. I think I picked these up a few grows ago to use in mineralized soil. They worked, so I used the same for the Kit. Honestly, the bag says 20 quarts and when I first got the kit and mixed the soil, I used the whole damn bag for one kit. (I thought it was 20 lbs) The bag is probably closer to 30lbs, but I havent weighed it. When I mixed kits 2 and 3, they each got half a bag of worm castings per bale of Pro Mix. So kit 1 (The big plants in flower now) have a lot of worm castings in the soil.

Any thoughts on the possibility of extra castings in the soil, Doc? It hasnt seemed to have hurt.

I would say the "extra" castings are doing just fine! You've got yourself an unusually good grow there, my friend. I wish I could see the look on your face after you wash the buds, dry them and try them!

Looking great! I finally have a minute to chime in as I have been busy trimming, and trimming and trimming and.... Well you get the pic! Anyways, I am really impressed with the healthy look of these plants you are doing a great job. I am going to order a kit from doc. I already have a round going in flower room with nutes I have. I am setting up the other side of my room over the next few weeks and have clones rooted now so these will be with doc kit. It will be really interesting to see the side by side comparison. One thing I learned is for a scrog 6 gallon pots are too small. All plants were really root bound. So I'm going to 18 gallon totes.

As for the great white shark, well it may just be the star of my show! I grew 4 strains, white widow, crystal, ice, and great white. Of these ww and crystal produced dense sticky buds. The ice produced the most but somewhat loose and high leaf to bud ratio. The gws produced second best but had the stickiest buds with a strong smell. All indications so far are the gws is looking like some extremely good smoke. Ill get smoke report next week.

Ill be starting a new grow journal for the "shoot out" between heavy 16 and doc buds kit! Happy growing and be safe my friend!

Thanks Maine for the kind words. Im liking the shoot out idea. You did pretty good with the heavy 16. Doc's kit is pretty special when you follow the directions exactly. It makes a big difference. I look forward to the smoke reports. Keep us posted on your journal of the progress.

Update time. So there's some good news and some bad news. Bad news is there is Powdery Mildew in the flower room. I pulled the last couple plants in perlite, they had a bit of PM. I noticed PM (a couple tiny spots) on the Critical Kush, both plants.

I have dealt with PM extensively for the past year and a half. Ive tried pretty much everything. PM Wash, SNS, Seranade, Milk/water, and finally this stuff called Mildew Cure. The Mildew Cure, as long as it is reapplied every week or so is the only thing that comes close to effectively controlling PM. I cranked up the dehum maintaining 30% to 40% humdity. I already have a ridiculous amount of air movement. I run 2 large fans per 600 light in the room, so 6 large fans total.

I decided to spray the smaller Kush with Mildew Cure. Most of the pistils got burnt afterwards even though I removed the plant from direct light. It is already throwing out new pistils though. I decided not to spray Mildew Cure on the larger Kush. I am going to see if I can up the brix and control PM with the sprays in Doc's Kit. Its looking like I will be able to control it, the large Kush after a feeding of energy, showed no signs of PM. (Never seen that before).

I am pretty optomistic I will have a decent harvest. The Tangerines and Laughing Buddah show no signs of PM yet. Both those have waxy leaves and probably higher brix. I am happy about that... So, I will control the PM on the Kush to keep spores from flying around and be good to go. Veg closet has no PM, clones are clean.

Looking great! I notice on some of your leaves the edges have a slight curl. I have a few plants doing that as well. Did I read earlier in your journal doc saying that's right where you want to be? I don't remember why?

Hey bro!

Do I understand that the plant in perlite has PM and the brix plants do not? Have I got that right?

IF that's the case, I'd just cull the plant in perlite.

Target the PM spot with the foliar sprays......

And this is important! Don't turn down the Rh! Keep it right at 40 to 50. You'll stress the plants out if you go lower and the PM will have a better shot at becoming a problem.

Keep the brix up and you shouldn't have a problem. Also, if you wash the buds as instructed and you use "Real Lemon" lemon juice, the sulfites in the lemon juice will kill the PM on the wash.....not that I'd wash spotted produce....but if you're worried about systemic PM the wash will take care of it.

Doc. I culled the plants in perlite. All plants left as of now are in HB soil. I'm glad to be done with those. Both critical kush's have the PM. The smaller one seemed unhealthier and had a little bit more PM. The large critical kush is super healthy and has only shown a couple small spots of PM. I hit everything with brix a couple days ago. Checked the large CK today and no PM. I will up the humidity in the room as well.

I trust your judgement and advice. I feel if I can make a great environment and give these plants what they need they will combat the PM on their own. Normally with very healthy plants in perlite, PM is kind of a death sentence. An early harvest at the least.

These high brix plants are doing things I am not used to in a good way. Pretty awesome to watch. Thanks a lot Doc.

I think you'll be OK. I'd pull the leaves with the spots. If more than one leaf on a branch has it.....and it's a lower branch.....snip off the entire branch.

Will do Doc! I should've just told you the problem, then asked for your advice. I believe the sprays alone will effectiviely combat PM on a healthy plant. We shall see. High brix plants are pretty amazing.

out of curiosity did you get a brix reading on the plants with powdery mildew? it may be valuable to diagnose future problems.

No, I dont have one of those fancy refractometers. I am only judging brix based on leaf shininess and overall plant health (real scientific). How could a brix reading help diagnose future problems? I appreciate your insight.
