Can changing water often simulate the bubbles of oxygen ? Should I clip leaves of clones ?
Without aeration you should change the water every day or two so it doesn't go stagnant. Snipping the leaf tips leaving 2/3rds has a few purposes. Tips evaporate moisture without as much glucose production so your cutting will loose less moisture without much loss of glucose production. The second reason is you can pack clones tighter together if they don't have tips shading the one next to it.
Basic need for clones are;
A clean cut and constantly wet stem base.
Enough stored energy in leaves to grow roots.
80 deg air with 90% humidity to start. Cover most of the lid with plastic wrap and mist twice a day for first few days.
When you spray the clones you are changing out fresh air.
Leaves need 15 to 24 hours of light at 50% to 75% of what you would give early veg. 15-20 wats/square foot.
Things that are not required but improve success rate and rooting speed;
Keeping the water aerobic.
Using a rooting hormone and/or kelp extract for PK and amino acid.
Keeping the root zone dark.
Water 70 to 75 deg.
Using nonwoody/ young growth from the lower 3rd of the plant.
Use the back of your scissors to gently scuff the white haze off the lower stem. Should barely see it change to a brighter green with a touch of sheen. Not cutting the epidermis just the wax cuticle coating.
When your longest root is 2 inches long you need to move it to the media type it will grow in. Plant the clone in soil or coco with feed schedule. My plants grow in deep water so they can stay in the water and I just add hydro nutrients. The plant focuses growth on different types of roots based on the media. For example, it will not grow a long water tap root when in water. Each media type requires a different % of each of the three types of roots. Water, air and nutrient.
