Stanks Switch It Up In 2019

Plants are looking good as always. Annunaki puts out some heat for sure!

So I am currently "threadless" and have nowhere to share photos unless I slip a couple in other people's journals...LOL Awhile back I reversed a Grandpa Glue plant and sprinkled some of her pollen on a clone of the Purple Punch I was running at the time. I popped one of these seeds about 6 weeks ago and just up-potted and flipped her about 5 days ago. I don't think she will be a big stretching plant as neither of her parents were. I can definitely see her perking up under the QB lighting. Here are a couple photos I snapped today. I think she's going to be a good one. Love her structure. She has really nice color too even though in the QB lighting she's quite light in color.

That sounds like a stellar cross bud!

Your outdoor Afghani has a lot going on. A ton of side branches. When she flowers are the branches strong enough to support the weight of the buds without any help?

Hey Van
cheers brother :passitleft: hope alls well with the stanks and pup.
Hell of a day today weather wise, nice to feel the warm sun! that sour pineapple is going to be a fun one to watch!

Been eying them since you mentioned them :passitleft:

You know you need more seeds! Don't hesitate just dive on in! :passitleft:

We gonna find out!! She has a LOT of tops right now. He mom got to about the final 2 weeks before she needed any support and even then it was very little. I will be spraying the outdoor girls with silica as pest defense so it may add some strength to the branches.

I do live on a hill called Windy Hill.....we get a lot of wind so anything we grow outdoors gets put through the ringer.

Did some up potting on the outdoor Afghani girl today.

20 Gallon pot prepped for the 5 gallon transplant. Since she was coming from a 5 gallon fabric pot, the transplants are a bit tougher than coming from a hard pot. All I do is put the pot up on a pot with a slightly smaller circumference so I can peal the fabric pot down and off the girl getting up potted

Once I got her out, I tested her to make sure the hole was big enough and deep enough. Sprinkled some Mykos in there, plopped her down, backfilled and watered with some fish emulsion fertilizer. Thats really about the only bottled stuff I like to use besides Silica and liquid Kelp.

And here she is side by side with the Jack Herer thats been out there for a bit over a week.

And speaking of the Jack, here is a quick overhead shot of her.

They all got some of the fish emulsion fertilizer all of them showed that they were much happier afterwards. I use the Neptune's Harvest brand which is a 2-3-1 type of fertilizer. Watch out if pH is important or one of those things you monitor going in cause it is acidic by nature and will drop your pH down quite a bit. Growing in organic soil, I let the herd do all my pH'ing for me :ganjamon: . I don't even own a pH pen anymore.

That Jack looks like a beast in the Making.
Thanks Penny.....I hope so. I have a small one in flower right now to hold me over until this one gets done this fall.

The Afghani is going to be the outdoor beast I think....at least from the looks of it right now. We had some crazy strong storms roll through last night. I actually had to bring the 3 outdoor girls in 20 gallon pots into the house, I was afraid they were going to get blow over LOL.

After 33 days of waiting and anticipation my Seedsman order arrived yesterday. I took advantage of their "sale" for 420 and added a few new strains to my modest collection. I probably wouldn't have chosen the Seedsman Lemon Auto if I had the option as it and the Blueberry Auto were freebies. I'm trying to add some top quality autoflower seeds to my collection. And with the luck I've had growing the Sweet Seeds Dark Devil auto I thought their Gorilla Girl XL and Cream Mandarin XL might be worth growing out.

If anyone has had any experience growing any of these strains out please share your results either positive or negative and include tips you found helpful. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

How come PW? I used to believe that the yield of autos was inferior and the potency of autos didn't measure up. That the quality (density, taste, and flavor) left something to be desired. But in the 3 years I've been growing I've found that to not be the case with some autos. I'll be the first to admit that many are just OKAY....a little small, smallish yield, not all too potent etc. But there are auto strains out there that perform as well as photo period strains. Right now I am running a Colorado Cookies auto from Dutch Passion and it's an example of one of the strong performing autos. Start to finish in 77 days. Not too many photo period plants can do that and have any size to them. If you're willing to do the research you can find some real winners in the auto flower lineup.

Blueberry auto from 420 is a big producer for me with a good high and has it's blueberry magic medical ways. Baby boom auto from cannabia is another with good yield and potency if you like indicas.

Autos aren't everyones cup of tea that's for sure. I like the ability to grow one about anywhere I can hang a light over it. I do say this, autos have come a long way in just the 3 years I've been growing them. Three years ago there were a lot less A+ quality autos then there are now. Any of you guys/gals grown an auto flower strain you would put up against a top quality photo period plant with regards to it's overall quality?

Easily the two I mentioned above and dark devil.

Thanks Shed....yeah the cervical vertebrae are a different beast. I have been used to the lower back injury for so long......where as long as I avoid certain motions I am generally comfortable and even then I have learned that I can trash the lower back with physical work but as long as I use proper form and get a good nights sleep, the area resets every day.

Not so with the neck area. I struggle with finding a tolerable position to even sit or stand in where the muscles aren't just churning in knots and building up lactic acid and burning like hell. I do a lot of pacing with my hands behind my back trying to stretch and help with the tension. That makes life real difficult. I thought the lower back was bad.....but I can't seem to avoid irritating the neck and shoulder area like I can with the lower back.

Working on a couple solutions for the current soil problem. I am going to swap the soil into smaller 5 gallon buckets and bring a couple of them up and set them near the wood burner. The general temp of the upstairs is 68-69 degrees if we aren't running a fire and its closer to 80 when we are running the wood burner. I think those temps are 5 degrees or so higher near the insert so thats going to be the first thing I do.

I can't afford to throw more energy (meaning watts) at the problem. Sure it would be easy to get a big 400 watt heat matt and have my soil on that, but we just can't afford to run 1 or 2 of them for a month at a pop. I think once we get the climate controlled area where I can keep the temps in the 70s, we will be fine. My other solution for this year will be to mix my yearly requirement of soil at the end of spring and cook in the nice warm summer temps. Just eliminating the winter cook might make the most sense. I know @beez0404 has been on my case for getting a used cement mixer to do all my mixing, so doing it all in one weekend with cement mixer might be the most fool proof solution.

He also had the good idea of having a foam box where I could maybe regulate the temp better for the cooks....which is another great idea but its not tested at this point. I think I might experiment with that idea though. I know what the results of outdoor soil cooks are.....and aside from the inconvenience of needing to mix up a few hundred gallons of soil in a short period and needing to buy more soil bins, it will likely fix my future issues with badly cooked soil.
Heya Stanks! Long time no see... I've been mia myself. I just had to have my C5 & C6 removed. Unfortunately most of the damage is done. I can no longer feel my hands. It's kinda crazy. 2019 got crazy & it's remaining that in 2020. The only way is up from here! I've missed this place. Hi to Mrs. Van!
