Stanks Go Perpetual In 2018!

Thanks guys - I appreciate it. It’s been quite a journey. I really need the Gorilla because of the ease of the easy zips (my physical disability wasn’t handling the other cheaper tents zips at all) and there’s no way I can keep this room dark. Once I flower its lights of in the tent from 430pm and it’ll be finishing in late spring - the room will be well lit and there’s not much I can do about that. I posted on my thread too with a pic of the biggest leak - bigger than anything on the cheap tent I already returned (for refund).
Plus - funny waht you say about the strain Krip ;) It was VS who warned me about nanners on the Blue Dreams!

Sorry to hijack your room with this Van. I’d been thinking I should just put up with it and doctor the tent, but it’s was a big investment and I’m not as able as I used to be for fixing it up.

If anyone else has advice maybe just pop over to mine, and we can keep Van’s, Van’s :Namaste:

unless you're flashing spotlights randomly at the seams throughout the night, yer safe.
Ya - can’t see myself doin that! There’s some bright light in the room though. The leak that’s the worst is actually a misaligned window cover not just the seam holes and not present on the other window - so there’s a principal too I guess, at that price point.

Will see if I have the energy to pursue it.

Thanks :thumb:

Let's face it, I'll never be able to follow this journal on a daily basis... it's just too damn fast! But I'm glad you pulled off another worthy harvest :thumb:

BTW the question about outdoor varieties can be addressed with proper research. You need to find a variety, that flowers in time, that adapts to your micro climate easily and that is reasonably immune to pests, pathogens and bad weather conditions. If you find it, then you might have a winner on your hands.

But you need to grow it to find out, so it's all about sifting through strains year by year!

Can anyone recommend a manufacturer of a good quality (doesn't have to be the best or most expensive) grow tents? I currently grow in a 2x4 Vivosun. I am considering gifting that one to a friend and getting a taller one (mine is 5') and I'm having to bust a lot of main stems cause they're getting too tall.
I just went with a Vivosun for my 4'x4' and have been quite impressed with it for the money. It was incredibly inexpensive, it's sturdy, light-proof and has plenty of ports that are also very light-proof. My only complaint/wish is that it came with one additional support bar to make it a little easier to hang more stuff (when hanging the carbon filter & fan) but I haven't seen any of the other 4'x4' tents that come with more than two, which is the same as Vivosun provides.

i just recently setup my 4x4, like 3 days ago, for the first time in about 4 years. It is a Mammoth grow tent. I dont even know if they are still around, but the top of my tent has 3 cross members, two run one way, one the opposite. Its great having the extra to strap stuff too. no leaks, lots of vent ports, windows work well, zippers still work great, no cpmplaints at all!

@Amy Gardner if i was in your position, gorilla would be hearing from me. They charge too much not to sell a perfect product.

Thanks everyone for chiming in.

Amy, never apologize for hijacking my thread. All questions are good questions and welcome. Someone will learn something with each new exchange.

I have never bought into the pinhole leak thing. I have spent a lot of time outdoors at night and the moon is a whole lot freaking brighter than any leak u will have in your tent short of a gaping hole or leaving a flap open. Hard for me to accept that a pinhole light leak is gonna mess anything up that wasn't genetically predisposed to nanner or hermie anyways. But thats just my opinion.

What I don't do....ever.....is open my tent after lights out. Nothing I need to do that can't wait 12 hours or 8 hours. I don't take pics after lights out, or water, or anything. I think people that have nanner issues that aren't genetics, get them from lack of light discipline and not pinhole leaks.

I agree with Van

Both my tents I can see pin hole lights coming out of the tent, but when I zipped myself inside, drank a 12pack, napped for ,3hrs, I never saw light coming in

Lol

But seriously, I think a light on a humidifier or power strip would be a way bigger issue than any pin hole or ziper hole ever could be

Decided to mix my smoke last night. Ground up a small Stankberry nug and a small Hindu nug. Smoked it earlier than I normally do and went upstairs with the intention of watching the idiot box for a bit. Damn it man....that stuff kicked my ass good!. I was higher than the national debt! Looks like we have another cross to play around with. Fantastic tasting combo as well. Definitely gonna try that mix again soon!

Congrats on the WW harvest! Yummm

I definitely want to grow Northern Soul from @SeedsMan ... @MiOutdoorsman had a couple going and they looked really strong and healthy.
Ooooooh I have some of these! I got them for free on my last order:) I’ll look forward to them

With regard to grow tents, light leaks, and nanners here is what I was told by someone who's knowledge I deeply respect. It was explained to me like this. And I will be using an outdoor plant for the example. You plant a seed in the ground 100 feet from the outside light that comes on at dark every night. The plant is close enough to be in this light. However, the plant from it's first day after sprouting has known this light. So although not in complete darkness it's what the plant has known since day one and will not be stressed by that light. I know I have a small 2x2 tent in my house I use for breeding. I leave the four vent windows at the bottom of the tent open full time so light is entering through there. But it's what they've always known and I think they acclimate to it.

But like Van said, once you put the girls to bed at lights out you want to let them be till the lights come back on again. But if I'm going to buy a top tier, high price tent it better be light proof, with solid stitch work, incredible zipper, and top quality materials. I don't want to have to worry about light leaks, the zipper failing, stress points failing, poles bending etc. The old adage is true.........you SHOULD get what you paid for.

Time to mix up another batch of Stank Soil. Only one bin of vermi composted soil has finished so for me to keep up with my plants I will need more bins for the vermi-composting and lots more scraps LOL.

Going to do up another 60 gallons of soil. This is the 3rd batch of soil and definitely liked the changes I made to the recipe last time. No pH swing upwards (of course watering with rain water certainly helps. (gonna need to get a big container for rain water capture to stock enough for winter time in the basement). Only thing I think I am going to do differently is to add in some lobster compost I have left over from the outdoor garden. Didn't add any last batch but I don't want the bag to lay around over the winter so I will throw a bag in there.

Gonna smoke something before I go out and do this soil. Mixing up the soil does a number on me back!

Ever feel like the world is against ya?

Love my Vivosun 4x4 and agree with extra bar but love everything about it .

Can I ask you guys a bit about this light-proof thing and tents please?
I’m usually an outdoor grower so new to the indoor caper.

Many folks say it’s absolutely crucial and the tiniest light leak is not ok. Others seem more casual. Recently I returned a tent (midrange price wise) with lots of holes (mostly in the stitching but some in the actual fabric). I got a Gorilla instead, ok. So this Gorilla is awesome - super sturdy and the zips are so easy I can move them with my fingernails practically.
Thing is, there’s bigger holes in some of the stitching than the cheaper (returned) one had, and one really big leak at the side of one of the windows - like it wasn’t lined up properly during manufacture. The window on the other side doesn’t have it.
I don’t know what I should do. It’s such a pain. And maybe folks would tell me not to stress about it, but these are not cheap and this one doesn’t seem lightproof - in terms is “leakiness”. How much should I be just putting up with here? There aren’t as many leaky spots as the cheaper tent, but a few of them are quite a bit bigger.

Any advice appreciated.
With the cheaper one, some folks said I should just put up with it and fix the leaks myself. The retailer was happy to refund tho. I suppose I really thought the Gorilla wouldn’t come close to having that issue.:hmmmm:

I suppose one question is - how much of an issue is it?

:Namaste:
When my lights are on in my tent the zipper looks like it has leaks but i think it has to be a sufficient amount of light to be hI eat but still take extreme measures outdoor they are way more resilient I had a bon fire beside them the other day . My deck light even though I keep on for shortest time to let dogs out. It shines pretty bright . Nothing so far for hermie issues.

Resilient ... indoors it’s ammune to dark dark so I see why it more likely to hermie on ya it light hits it when I’m sleep mode .

Best I got on my end Amy great question though ✊

 i had one guy working for me a few years back and he couldnt swing a sledge hammer to save his life... Have to hammer bundles of steel flush before we can cut them... after i replaced the tenth one i told him he was responsible for the next... Two days later he came to work with 11 handles :rofl: replaced them all and had a spare.

Can I use bud rot buds to make edibles/oils/topicals? My outdoor Cindy is turning brown and rotting in various places, she also isnt quite ready to be harvested! Wondering if I'd still get some benefit by pulling now and using in the magic butter machine!? Afraid if I wait, there wont be any buds left!! Thank you!
