Stanks Go Perpetual In 2018!

i love wolves, theyre beautiful, but theyre smart and cunning and dangerous. But introducing a non native species is just retarded, youd think these people would have some common sense to spay/neuter them prior to introduction so they cant reproduce. If im not mistaken, idaho and area use to have a species of wolves that were smaller than the big timber wolves we have up north... My truck driver is a newfie, use to ride the ice roads in his younger years. Tells a story of how he Broke down and was waiting for help, hungry pack of wolves stumbled across the truck, spent 4-5hours circling it, one jumped on the hood started digging at the windshield and ripping at the rubber seal holding it in place....easy to say that nature would win against man 9times out of 10 without firearms lol

LOL....perhaps a little of both. I know Ms Stank and I joke all the time about the older we get, the more we hate people and the better the mountains and woods look to us!
Me and the Ms. feel that same way lol. And were likely much less than half your age! As PJ was saying, I think we may have been born in wrong era as well

Yeah it is no good when things get thrown out of balance. Thats how the wolf population is out in Idaho. Its destroyed the elk population in a short amount of time (less than 10 years) to the point where you can legally hunt them. Several have been killed close to where my dad lives (and most of them being over 130 lbs....so big wolves) and you can't even find the elk herds anymore. Like I said above, most of the times they don't even eat their kills.....just killing for the fun of it.

Coyotes out there are considered vermin and you don't even need tags for them.
Yeah no tags required here either. You just need a hunting license unless you want to night hunt and then you need a permit for night hunting. Most coyotes are between 30 and 55 pounds but I have seen some people shoot 70+ pound ones! I cannot imagine coming across a 130+ wolf in the wild! crazy

:passitleft:
Some eye opening posts for a city boy in the suburbs.
Carry on.

LOL....I suppose it would be. Two different worlds for sure Stage!

I spent enough time in big cities, New Orleans, DC, San Diego, Orange county (all one big city despite different names) to know its not my thing. I like my trees and out doors, my animals and acres. Our dream is 25+ acres out in the mountains, where instead of seeing a neighbor when I look out my window in the morning, I see a moose, a bear, a deer, or anything else besides another person!

Do you ever listen to the Joe Rogan Experience? He had an episode where they guys were out elk hunting (with bows) and shot an elk that ended up essentially running into part of a wolves den. They were dressing the elk when they started hearing the howls all around them. Said they heard the Alpha call out a couple times....then immediately answered by the pack. Another call from the Alpha and this time the return calls were from different locations around the hunter. Shortly after the first wolf attempted to charge them.

Now here is where it got interesting. Dude only had like 4 arrows. Shot the elk with one. Shoots the charging wolf with one....has two left. Another call by the Alpha, another charge by another wolf. This time the guide with them shoots the charging wolf with his rifle. Things quiet down for a bit and the Alpha does another call and it gets answered by all the wolves minus the two that were just shot and killed. The guy that shot the Elk said he had a real weird feeling and he started scanning all around them. They know there are still a lot more wolves than bullets and arrows left.....so they all back up to trees. Dude said he spots this big bastard slowly crawling forward and knows instantly its the Alpha. Brings his arrow up on the Alpha and it disappears back into the woods. Another call and things go silent. They grabbed the elk and got the hell out of there.

They think the alpha went to investigate when his call returned two less calls than the previous attempt. Smart animals man....smart animals and not to be taken lightly for sure.

Wrong time or wrong location....not quite sure in our case. I love having access to the technology we have, I just don't want it to be what our lives revolve around. Perhaps as we get older, we have a better grasp on what we want in our lives and what we don't want in our lives.

Hell the lady up the road from my pops shot one that weighed over 150 pounds! Have you ever seen a wolf that big? JESUS.....and imagine coming across that thing without a firearm!

Had 3 Quail in my yard this AM, was a first, and I'm right in town
All I could do to NOT grab my BB gun and have one for lunch

thats an awesome story... Adrenaline would have been out of this world! Atleast they kept the elk lol
One of my dogs is a mutt, only guess at his breeding, but hes about 120lbs. When i wrestle with him, and i mean wrestle, its a good fight... I couldnt imagine fighting one trying to kill me... let alone a pack...

I will try to find the episode on youtube and send it in a PM to ya. I love listening to Joe. One of my favorite episodes was listening to him and James Hetfield of Metallica talking about raising bees. Ya never know what will be talked about on his shows. Better than 99% of shit out there on TV, and really good if you are medicated!

Man all this talk about mountains, trees and no people is having me long for summer vacation. Every summer for more than a decade I rent a cabin in the smokie mountains and ride down there on the bike. I spend at least one week a summer down there and we are starting to look at properties down there to eventually retire to. I love hanging out down there and riding around on remote roads that search out. When we are done riding for the day we grill out and chill in the hot tub while looking out at nothing but mountains. I even had a year old elk cow that set up camp in the front of our cabin the week we were down there. I grew up in the country and was there up until 10years ago. I live in a suburb that is not overly large but I hate it. It's too late in life to up and move when this place is on track to be paid for soon and I want another house down south.

We don't have wolves here but coyotes, deer and wild turkeys are everywhere.

We rent a cabin down there in the Spring. We don't like the summer.....too many people in the park. Where around that area do you rent? We usually go to White Oaks Resort. They are out away from the Gatlinburg, probably 15 minutes. The cabins abut the National Park. Love it there.

Well if we can get this damn situation with my back fixed....we can maybe go down this fall (you always said you wanted to see it in the fall). Or we can go next spring. Damn we are normally getting ready to start packing for the trip down there about now too.
