Stanks Go Perpetual In 2018!

Ok so this post leads me to ask the question of everyone..

wet trim or dry trim?

when I was involved with growers they always cut and hung whole.... one would take the fan leaves, one wouldn’t... but they always waited till they were hanging dry to do a final trim and jar.

just wondering if anyone’s experimented with results/differences.
Ask 20 growers and you will get about 10-20 different answers on which and why. For me, I am working on what is the easiest and least painful way to harvest. I have tried both wet and dry and I kind of do a combo of them.....

I like to remove all the fan leaves and all the big sugar leaves that I can without using trimmers. Only difference is I am now doing all that the last day or two that she is still alive. Leaving just buds with small sugar leaves and some medium or large ones that I couldn't get by plucking. I do a good bud wash and hang to dry for 2-3 days. From there I cut the buds off the stems (and do any dry trimming of obnoxious sugar leaves if I care about bag appeal). Assuming I do solid plucking before harvest....there isn't a lot to trim (at least on most strains) afterwards. Then into sandwich bags (40 grams per bag wet) and into the fridge for slow and low drying (10-14 days). This is the easiest method for me. And that my friend is one of the 20 answers you will likely get. Cheers brother! :passitleft:

I hope to live long enough @Van Stank to see you do a SCROG in your 10X10 tent and fill the whole thing with an even layer of buds. Now THAT would be a sight to behold. I'm thinking you could do it with just 4 plants
Never gonna happen. I enjoy having room to walk around in the tent, roll plants from one side to the other if I need to, or just sit in the chair that i have in there and chill with the girls.

I am going to make an single plant scrog to run in there though....or two smaller plants. I figure something about a 3x3' should be good. Maybe some day I will do a single plant scrog in the 4x4 or 5x5 some day. The DTF #1 that I am growing flat and wide would be a great plant for that, but I already have plans for that girl.

That’s kind of why I was asking haha see if there was a general consensus. I just remember a meme/post going around when I was on IG that said “friends don’t let friends wet trim” or something similar... curiousity got the best of me so I figured I’d ask if anyone had done both and noticed/seen any differences in the smoke/end product or if it’s just another myth of the cannabis world.

I have tried both. Wet probably gives nicest looking buds but I don't smoke looks. Wet requires lots of me looking down and more work which is what I am trying to avoid. Its all about ease for me.

I think you would be safe going with myth on that one

DTF #4 Flip Day 67

This week's updates start off with the flowering DTF girl. She continues to bulk up. We had a major collapse of her earlier in the week. I have her on dolly with another plant and went to roll her closer so I could water them. I was watering the African Meltdown next to her and when I finished and sat up, the DTF cola had flopped over past the point of being parallel to the ground.

I staked her up to one bamboo stake and by the end of the day it was starting to fall over. I had to add a 2nd stake and now she seems to be holding up well.

She is turning into a solid plant of bud. Even her lowers, are almost all pure buds. Very little space on the stems that isn't holding a bud. All her branches are starting flop under the weight so I am expecting some great buds and a nice yield for the size of the plant. Her main cola is incredibly dense and still worries me regarding bud rot.

Her leaves continue to hold good health even this late in flower. I have no clue how long its going to take for her to finish but I think I will cut a tester tonight to try in a few days. She is still throwing out white pistils up top. I haven't looked at any of the trichomes on her but I will when I chop the tester. I am guessing she will go at least 80-85 days.....or more :hmmmm:

The first 4 pics are inside the tent. Its really had to get decent pictures in there.....all the rest are outside of the tent. Cheers

For me dry trimming is where it is at. I used to wet trim only because I thought dry trimming was too much of a pain. Since I went back to dry trimming I have found that my buds come out just as nice looking, with less cut off and they smell better. I chop plants at the base, hang whole until lower branches snap when bent, then I put the plants in turkey bags and into a bucket with gamma lids. This allows me to trim at my convenience. I am basically curing the plant whole and then can trim however much I want when I get a chance. I will basically let plants sit in the bucket until I have another plant coming down that needs it. Once trimmed it is ready for storage.

Thanks for the answer! That’s what I remember reading about on the IG post as well but I was curious to hear opinions from the more experienced. Definitely going to try out the different methods and see what works best!

Van... that DTF is gorgeous :thedoubletake::adore:

My Star Pupil x ATF green pheno is sooooooo much like the ATF father Van

Has a bit of purple but the smell and buzz is ATF

Purple is coming down in a few days, we shall see how it turns out. More fruity smell than the green

Man, that tent is great! Being able to walk around and maintain the girls with ease without messing with the environment too much is beneficial on so man levels.

Holy Cola on the DTF 4, bruh!

I'm guessing my DTF gets pulled right out about 80 days. Although mine is at day 64 and is about 75% amber hairs. Yours still is like 80/20 and you are at 67. Yours may go into the 90 day mark. Either way very nice looking plant guys!

We lost power 6 times but for a total of 3 hours so not too bad. You did well.

South Africa has load shedding almost everyday as the national grid can't supply so they cut off certain parts of the country at certain times between 4-6 hours a day. The power company is run by high placed Goverment members who are married into certain political parties that run this country. They've been siphoning off funds to the point that load shedding is implemented due to not having enough coal to generate power or so we are told but there is tons of coal being delivered into the country from China...

China has supplied us with zar34 million bailout but that has disappeared and yesterday on the news it was announced that the company has been bought out by a Chinese company...

My apologies for the small rant mr.Stank, lovely garden and some beautiful looking plants.....:sorry:

No worries Smeegs....rant away brother. ATF and Stankberry updates in work in a few minutes. Doing them to help my nerves as I watch Free Solo on Nat Geo. Holy shit man.....I am a wreck just watching it.

Holy shit being absolutely correct, you'd have to sedate me to get me up there....haha

ATF (SG) Flip Day 28

Kicking tonight off with the big girl. You can see what I did to deal with my height issue tentatively. This is a seriously big girl. Her side branching is immense and impressive. I will likely go through next week at some point and clean up the lowers, get rid of the shorter branches that won't yield much.

I staked her up as she was starting to lean already. I used two bambo poles but I need to add two more....going to try and center her and anchor her between the 4 poles. I am going to continue to add silica to the waterings for another week or two in hopes of adding some strength to her branches. She's got the potential to be a very good yielder.....my issue is the lighting I am using with them. I really need to add some additional lighting to the tall girls.

She will be getting a gallon and half of water tomorrow. More lighting for her and things will be good!

Stankberry #2 Flip Day 28

Really liking this one of out the two Stankberry girls. She's got a bit more sturdy structure to her that I think is going to hold up better than #3 in late flower. She is still gonna flop, but not as much. She is staked up on two of the four main shoots, but I will likely need to add two more. I will be trimming up the lower growth and removing all the under performers some point next week.

Neither girl is drinking full steam yet. They are still getting water about every 4 days. I expect them to start picking up speed in the next couple weeks. I need to add more lighting to the Stankberry girls as well.

Stankberry #3 Flip Day 28

This one is lankier of the two. Definitely looking like she is going to be trouble in flower. I will need to start getting things tied up better with this one quickly. Node spacing on this one is a bit longer than #2 for the most part. Stem on this one isn't quite as purple stripped as #2 Scents are a bit different as well, but I can't put my finger on the specifc scents. Both girls will be getting water tomorrow.

The tent is massive.....lots of room in there. 100 square feet total space. Much more than I am using but I love being able to do all my work inside the tent except for the occasional picture taking outside the tent.
