PH SLURRY TEST GONE WRONG
Howdy do folks. Hows it growing in your world?
It's been a few days since I updated last. I've been up to my eyes in work..
Anyway.. the last problem was the scabby leaves on the white widow., which was showing a cal mag deficiency....
As Bill suggested, she could have ran out of food, as they are only in compost and haven't been fed any additional nutrients, which makes perfect sense. I was expecting them to show signs of malnutrition by now. But I was also under the impression that the mineral water they drink had enough calcium and magnesium in it..
It was also suggested that the pH of the soil could be out of balance also..
So, before I fed her, I wanted to check the pH of the soil, just out of curiosity..
Well, what a fook on that has been... I did a quick Google and found this
It says pH strip's, but I assumed a pH pen was more accurate..
I couldn't get distilled water quick enough, so I went for deionised water which has a neutral PH,just the same as distilled, according to Google below
So, I poured the deionised water in a cup and tested it. It came out as a pH of 5... That can't be right , surely?
I thought it was my Ph pen that was foooked.
So, I asked Jeff bezzo to drop me off two new PH pens, which he did the next day.
I tested them and got a value of 4 on one and 4.8 off the other.. well, I thought because they were cheap pens , that they were not accurate.
So, I bought a mid range pH pen the next day and tested that.. that was reading 5.5..
In total, 4 pH pens did not read any where near 7.
It had me baffled. Surely 4 pH pens couldn't be wrong?. so I did a bit more googlerating and found this
and this
So, how the fook am I meant to be able to trust a slurry test. If I can't trust the stuff I'm making the slurry with????
I bought a pH buffer after that and found that my original blue pen was accurate and the mid range pen was accurate.. those two cheap yellow pens do not calibrate properly.. do not buy or trust them..
Anyway.. I thought bollocks to the slurry test and I just fed them anyway like
@Bill284 said.. I trust Bill more than Google and my pen collection
So the moral of the story is, don't do a fookin slurry test with a PH pen. Do a run off test instead. Analyse what runs out of your pot and don't mix a slurry test with distilled or deionised water..
Oh! Heres a few pictures of the girls
SD back left, WW front and BB back right
This is the leaf damage on the WW
It's still only on a few leaves , the rest of the plant looks happy after a feed.
This is a fan leaf on the Blue Berry.
It's fookin huge!!!
Anyway.. that's it for tonight guys..
Oh!! It's not.. while Jeff was coming to mine, I ordered some new toys for the tent
Don't tell the missus, she doesn't know yet ..
It's a 6 inch cloudline.. I've only got a 4 inch one and it's not drawing out the hot air.. it can shift the right amount of CFMs but I needed a fan that would suck the sides of the tent In.. anyway.. i will be updating tomorrow with a post on how I'm setting it up.
Anyway. That's it folks..
As always.. I really appreciate you all checking out my posts. I know they aren't the most informative; sorry about that, but I do learn a lot from you guys and I thank you for it.
See you all on your side
