Spotting on older fan leaves

Well 420 friends....still need some help with this issue. I did hang the Hot Shot one night, and have sprayed with neem twice. I did see two gnats in the sticky cards today, so perhaps I haven't fully killed my other pest.

The same plant is the only one effected and only on the fan leaves and almost all on the lowest fan leaves from the bottom two nodes. These fans also touch the tent sides.

I've spent an hour looking at all the plants with the loupe and microscope and to the best to my knowledge I'm not seeing a bug.

Under the microscope info see this at some places. But I blew some diematious earth the other day so not sure what's this is.....a pest
or a spec of the DE.

Two fans leaves were completely yellow and burnt but the first time I sprayed the Neem I did it when the lights were still on. Second time was right before lights out.

Best I can figure from my last grow with this strain , I'm about 4 weeks from harvest, so I'll use the hot shot tonight but this may be the last time and then just hope and pray ? The SNS spray will be here Monday so I'll do that for another week or two.

Thoughts?

I did see on one leaf what looks like a slight cal/mag issue.....just as an FYI if the expert growers there think it could be related

Once the insect chews on the leaf it is unlikely that the spot will go away even if the insect goes away.

I have sprayed Neem on my Marijuana plants and several other types of plants in the yard. I have done it on sunny days, often in early afternoon, and have yet to notice any marks from the spray. Same thing with spraying on the plants inside the house.

Tried to find studies where the theory that spraying in bright light causes spots is tested. Found reports of tests done but no spots. One research test and they found spots only on a fern which had small hairs on the leaf. Those kept the drop up off the surface and the drop could act as a magnifying glass. Otherwise, the drops are right on the leaf and no way to get a focal point.

I think the "do not spray in the sun" is left over from the early days of using Dormant Oil sprays where the spray is pure oil.

This has been a great thread to read through. I'm preparing for my first indoor grow. I have a few clones that I revegged in there now but I was hoping to see if I could get more insight regarding the No-Pest Strip. I have used them in the past for another hobby which also has to deal with mites. We cut the strip (wear gloves) into smaller pieces and put them inside plastic containers with a couple of vent holes. We store what is not used in ziplock bags or air tight containers.

When it was mentioned to use discretion, I second that! Here is my question though...

i'd run a hotshot - no pest strip - on top of everything ... they are controversial ... but they are death from above.

if you use one right from the start of the treatments, you'll knock them done in one cycle. if they come back for a second, the plants will be so late your treatment options will be limited, and you may have to pull early or worse.

and go after both the gnats and mites. don't neglect one enemy to kill the other. they need different approaches.

After I clean out my tent again and disinfect it thoroughly, could I run an entire grow cycle with those strips in my tent? As a preventative measure and treatment for anything unseen? What harm will it do to the plants and buds? If I don't leave it in there 24/7, how about treating with it every few days for say...one night or something? Could I do that all the way through harvest to minimize or eliminate any potential pest issues?

Also, I picked up about a dozen of them for $1.25 on summer clearance at WalMart last week! Like I said, I can use them in other situations and that is a steal!

Hey Baked,

I read your question with interest. From what I’ve read and heard ... is that it stinks like hell and has a toxic chemical funk.... I would avoid using it in or near my grow space. These plants can pick up scents and the taste / scent can be transferred into your produce. There are reports of ona gel flavored buds from growers trying to mask the scent of their plants by putting ona gel near their intake setup. If ona gel can flavor your buds then so can toxic smells. Anyway probably not the answer you were looking for but I’d avoid that

@bluter when I hang the hot shot......do I need to turn off the exhaust fan? I've read contradicting things about the exhaust fan

i ran the fan with the hotshot hanging in the grow space. exhaust as normal.

would only use them when needed. running them constant would run the risk of chemical build up. they run them 24/7 in food processing plants, and commercial barn lots, but only in certain areas. human contact is supposed to be limited to 8 hrs a day if in constant use.

they are essentially odourless. guess you could get a funk, if you used your grow tent to store a few hundred thousand.
