South Indian Sativa LED SOG Experiment

Hey so I don't know much about soil but I'd say by looking at them, your ok to feed them. I use straight Coco and that has 0 nutrients so i have learned to charge my Coco with 1/4 nutrients for any new girls and during transplant. Also if your using straight Coco, you will need extra Cal-Mag or a grow nutrient that accounts for this. I use Sensi products from Advanced Nutrients which are made for Coco users. That ppm does seem high but I'd go with how your plants look and they look fine. Good luck!

Looking good H! As far as adding more nutes to the bigger girls I would feed them and respond to their reactions. Build up slowly. The plants don't look burnt so I think your good to feed a little. Just don't get carried away and listen to the girl's they'll show you what they need.

Hey thanks man, what I'm gonna do is this:-

I'll just let A and B grow in the potting mix and watch out for any deficiencies.. if I spot something, then I'll start with nutrients.. because that would mean that the slow release nutrients which are already in the soil are just not strong or balanced enough to make my plant grow rapidly.

My other plants 1,2,3 and 4 are not gonna be grown in a potting mix, it's just gonna be grown in coco-peat and some perlite.. no added slow release nutrients.. so I can start using my chemical nutes right from the start.

Thanks again!

They look great. Good colour and their structure looks good too. As TurboBucket said, build up slowly and gauge the various nutrients as the plants react. I use the same idea that my Grandmother taught me about putting salt on food - add a little, because if you add a lot and its too much, you cannot take it out ! Same goes for the feed for your plants.

Hey Guys,

Day 33

not much to report as of now, i last watered plants A and B 4 days back, and i think i can water them tomorrow... thats almost 5 days between watering.. this time i'm not gonna be flushing the plants... just gonna replace the water which has been depleted in the soil, maybe get a light trickle of a runoff..

plant 1,2,3 and 4 are doing their thing.. they are on Day 1 since they popped outta the soil.

Alright so...

I Just wanted to gain some knowledge. this isn't related to this grow, just a general question.

what I'd like to know is, can i start my seeds in cocopeat jiffyplugs and once the roots start poking outta the plugs.. can i place the plant into.. say a 1 or 2 gallon smart pot filled with ONLY hydroton.. and manually hand-water the plants from then on? if so, how often will i need to water the hydroton?

Also, what if i filled up a 1-2 gallon pot with say about 80% hydroton and 20% coco-peat? will that work? what ratio of Hydroton to Coco-Peat is likely to work?

my goal is to to water the plant say once a day.. or once in two days, which will enable my plants to take in more nutes.

i dont wanna run a hydroponic system as of now coz i've still got a bit to learn about it... but i wanna try out hydroton, so will hand watering 100% hydroton or a hydroton+coco-peat mix work?

Do let me know,

Thank You!

Hi .
I see some people using full hydroton in their grows but I think they are using it hydroponically with tubes and reservoir so full hydroponic...lol! I hear ya about not wanting to jump fully on that train! That's why using full Coco or 80% Coco and 20% hydroton at the bottom will allow you to water more without going full hydroponic IMO. I'm learning and growing to eventually go full hydroponic;) Good luck! Maybe someone who grows in hydroton can comment better, that's my understanding anyways. ✌️

Hello!

Day 34

I watered the plants A and B today, since the pots have lost half the water-weight they were holding.

Ph levels from the runoff are fine, about 6.4

The PPM of the runoff this time has also reduced, which means these "slow releasing ferts" in the organic potting mix are beginning to wear off steadily. at some point in the near future I'll be able to add in my 3 part nutes.

Plants A and B are growing a bit slow but they're looking fine, and they wouldn't mind a drink so I gave it to them.

Now for my seedlings.. 1,2,3 and 4.

One of them just browned and died.. reason unknown.

2 of them stretched like crazy overnight and have collapsed and are looking really bad.. don't think they have much time left, I did not realise that they were too far away from the bulbs ., so only 1 remains. Hopefully this one makes it.

Anyways since these are all bagseed, I've got 100s of them! So nothing to worry about, I'll just germinate some more .

So that's it for now, I'll post pics in a few days once I see more development in plants A and B.

Hopefully my main LED will reach me in a few more days and I can begin flowering in my new growbox .

Stay tuned!!

Sorry to hear you lost some seedlings. Atleast you have a pile to keep pulling from. Sounds kind of like a water issue, Coco drains fast maybe your roots at the top dried out?

Hey man,

Thanks, but I don't think it's a water issue coz the other seedling is doing well with the same water level, I just don't think some of these seeds are good enough.. like I said, these are bagseeds and not genetically superior ones so there will be a few casualties .

Its almost impossible to over water Coco, it is a very forgiving medium. I had my first two seedlings die due to a ridiculous cold snap (it gets cold here, but frost is very rare, -6°c is exceptionally rare where I am) Are you going to get some seeds ? Some good seeds from the Himalayas would epic, I would love some of them.

Its almost impossible to over water Coco, it is a very forgiving medium......... love some of them.

I'd love to get some seeds from there too! But I don't have any source!

I've got about 12 autoflowering seeds with me, 4 different strains.. I'm gonna start those after I try this experiment.

I have some Mephisto Genetics Autos that I am running, I ordered them to run after my Fast Buds Girl Scout Cookies. I have popped 3 beans in and I have a Sour Crinkle, Blue Toof and Auto Cush in the Tent along with 3 Girl Scout Cookie plants. The GSC's are 60 days, 53 and 50 days old. I really like the idea of Autos as a first time grow, simply because they don't require much knowledge to grow. I honestly had no idea what I was doing when I started ! I love the look of the Mephisto plants, they are a small outfit who grow some pretty spectacular Autos. They only grow Autos and go more for quality than quantity yield wise, their plants grow small too, which is ideal for my set up. What Autos have you got ?

I've got Dutch Passion White Widow, G14, Fast Bud #2 and Gorilla Glue

Yes I grew 4 Auto White Widows in 2015-2016, I was extremely clueless about a lot of things and made many mistakes, got a sad yield but man the taste and high was amazing .

Its a learning curve, I am still suprised my plants are even alive

Thanks Hasnain, thats my oldest plant, its battled against the cold, I had terrible condensation issues - it was literally raining in my tent for a couple of weeks ! I am so impressed with the way they keep on going regardless !

These Fast Buds beans are fantastic quality, I agree fully with you about bagseed, 99% of the time they come from Hermaphrodite plants that are grown simply for an end product to sell, quality is not an issue, the growers just want weight to sell. Most commercial growers are not giving a damn about their quality, so the buds are most often not cured properly and they are harvested early too. When I lived in England I was really lucky to have a best friend who had been growing since he was 23. He was stationed in Germany when he was in the Army and would go to Holland when he was on leave. While he was there he made friends with a grower who supplied Coffee Shops, his buds had to be top quality as a result. My friend learnt all about how to grow the best buds possible. I am still in contact with my friend and he is helping me, along with all the good people on this Forum. I look forward to seeing how your plants develop, you might be in for a nice suprise as you are growing with 'love' as opposed to trying to rush the plants to the finish line. I was talking with my wife last night about travelling to India, I would love to head into the Himalayan foothills to see the incredible country and maybe find a seed or two as a bonus. Much like Australia, India is a vast place, it would be impossible to see everything in 2 lifetimes !
