SoilGirl's Soil Multi-Strain Grow Journal 2014

i talked about this in another post, i built a specific closet just incase i got a male. (i find it hard to believe people throw seeds away when they are more valued in my opinion)

i can not confirm for sure, but green lion farms where i get my clones and seeds told me that with organic seeds there is no way to make it feminized 100%. would love to know if anyone can back this up at all? anyone hear about it?

I&i

IRDK personally, but I have read somewhere that feminized seeds are more likely to go hermie later in life if under some kind of stress. not sure if this is true or not, but sounded credible. I'm interested in knowing more about feminized seeds too.

I keep my seeds to, I wonder if they will all be female as well? That's incredible out of that many germination's being of unknown sex? It's my understanding no seed can be 100% anything, genetics can't work that way, there will always be a male in there. I know if you seed a hemerphrodite with its own pollen you'll get 95% feminized seeds. I had a hermie but it was an unknown bag seed so I didn't want to take a chance with what may have been or fertilize the two female purple kush I had going at the time, so off to green pastures it went. Great start to the journal SG. Hope it's okay that I invited myself? :cheesygrinsmiley:

absolutely Chinnubie! Please follow along, if you notice anything that may be going wrong, or something I could be doing better, or just want to muse please speak up :welcome: and that goes to anyone. or ofcourse you could just watch, enjoy, maybe learn a little =)
and yeah I know, I'm actually a little nervous now that I saw GFC's unknown male - I'm so used to all my seeds turning out female that I've barely kept an eye out for male signs this grow around, I'm sure that male is on his way. I've really had ridiculous luck with getting females. Maybe I have the fem-touch ;) lol

Oh, CO Finest, I got your PM but I can't answer it yet, not enough posts >.< so here's what I was gonna PM you in response:

Oh ok thank you! It's a uhm...240w Lighthouse Hydro blackstar for flowering, and half the panel went out. Right now thats no biggie since I'm outdoors, but in a few months when it gets too cold I'm still going to want to grow. I'll definitely keep your offer in mind, but first I need to get in contact with Lighthouse, because there's a decent chance I can get them to fix it for free. I'll pm you if that doesn't work out, I've been having issues with my old amazon account, thanks again =)

Ok, today I decided it was time to start training my UKH#2, (I've been inspired by many journals here) and put a small tomato cage around my UKH#1 and tied her down to the top bar of the cage to open her up a bit. Below: UKH#1 before tying down to cage

below: me tying down the 4 main branches of UKH#1 to the top bar of the tomato cage with pantyhose so that it can stretch if it needs to, and the double-hub branch split of UKH#1 where you can see the knot leftover from a healing branch that was almost snapped off, and see where the branches become one big stem :) oh and my pretty purple nails (ignore the cracks and dirt!) :P

below: unfortunately I accidentally grabbed off one of the larger baby leaves of my Euphoria sprout, and my UKH#2 clone (my first clone I've gotten to root) struggling, hopefully she will pick back up and grow.

So that's the update for today, please speak up if you see something wrong/that I could do better. I'm seeing some yellowing in the new growth on UKH#1 but I'm chalking that up to just starting to flower. Also I see some very red dead spots on the older leaves on UKH#2 that look like early nute burn, but its not spreading. I'll keep an eye on that... the little UKH#2 clone I'm very worried about. Doesn't look healthy :(
Also a side note, I uploaded a bunch of old grow photos to the galleries today, if you want to go see my old indoor grows when I wasn't very experienced take a peak :) I thought I did alright though for not trying very hard.

very nice training your starting! im a huge fan of training, helped a few grows locally where they did nothing but training, then i came across a thread about "m*inlining" and my mind was blown. after watching CoFinest scroging most recently, that is the next step for my Grape Ape that is hubbed. ive got a mirror image of a plant right now, if i can do it right i should have about the exact same size colas all the way around. we will see, either way the ladys respond to the hubbing nicely and if you grow outside is a nice way to keep your plant below 3-4 feet.

I haven't read up much on main lining or hubbing, but the last 2 outdoor grows I've done I've came out with even size nugs all around and either 4 or 6 main branches that all the colas stemmed from, 4 in the case of my current UKH#1, and I'm guessing thats kinda what people are going for when they hub/main line. I didn't really even plan it out that way, but each time I would top my plants, after about 4 nodes they would grow evenly, and I would train them by hand a little a few times a day, just enough that each branch would get even sunlight, and rotating my plants all day. an outdoor cherry diesel I had turned out absolutely lovely..I wish I had the pics. I know the rule, no pics it didn't happen :P aw well. but anyways thank you! it was actually visiting your journal that convinced me I had to tie them down and stop doing that hand training, its just not as effective and is a waste of time compared to tying down. plus I just don't want them getting too tall, there's definitely a strong sativa influence in my UKH#2.

Right now, UKH#1 has 4 main branches, and each branch has 4 tops at the tips.... but unfortunately its not mirror image growth because of the lower branches, on 2 the lower branches really stretched out more and are prominent, on the other 2, the lower branches are shorter. but, I think I'll get much more even growth on UKH#2 now that its training, or at least thats the hope ;)

and thats what we call a natural green thumb. 3/4 node point is perfect because it has enough strength in the stem to support the two main branchs and doesnt have to push the nutes to far up so no waste of energy. my grape ape i topped it (3 time) a little to late, its around 22" now and i toped it the third time around 18" i read somewhere that 16 was most efficient colas for inside and you could get 32 or more outside. so im going for 32 or more because, well no grower likes to hear 'you cant'

its hard to keep my hands off my ladys (at the shop or home) so i have to train or else id go crazy.

(i have a project coming up that if is a success will be an awesome picture of training! going to start trying to write words and possibly designs down the road)

we shall see :rasta:

'No grower likes to hear 'you cant'' -- hahaha my reasoning when people said I couldn't/shouldn't grow a 7+ foot plant indoors, but I showed them! Lol, should've listened to them, but hey I learned my lesson :) though it still was a nice smoke, I know I could've gotten more out of it keeping it shorter.
It's hard to keep my hands off too ! they're so beautiful I just want to squeeze them and never let go, just let my soul become incorporated in them like the menoa tree in Eragon lol ;)
and awesome! I'll keep an eye out for that project :smoke2:

Haha cool! just figured out how to multi quote :)
beautiful plants soilgirl, sending +++ vibes your way. :)
Thank you psyanide! :ganjamon: right back at you!
Enjoyed your journal. Subscribing.
Thanks for the sub brightlight :welcome: I'm glad you enjoyed it! If you have any advice, comments questions please share :)

I was just reading up on defoliation, Bassman's old thread about it, and apparently thats what I did to my UKH#2 just a few weeks ago, completely removed all fan leaves, and she (crossing my fingers she is a she anyways) totally bounced back as you can see in my earlier photos. I think I will remove her fan leaves again to try to keep it compact..... update :P, while I was typing this, I went outside, defol'ed pretty hard, will show what UKH#1 and 2 look like tomorrow. Also, good news, one of my chem dawg seeds will be ready for soil soon! keep your fingers crossed and have a good puff for me, bring the karma, so chem dawg lives! :Namaste: I realllllly want to grow some chem.
Ok time to go smoke the last of my geisel amnesia<<< that stuff is PRIME, and go read a little :)

Oh, by the way, I'm thinking that I could use some better organic nutes for flowering, any suggestions people? Right now, just have Tiger Bloom and Jacks Classic Blossom Boost, and cal mag.

Subscribed. If you are interested in organic nutrients for soil/soiless growing you should consider the General Organics Go Box.

Thank you KingJohn, for the sub and for the links, that looks perfect. I'm gonna see if I can order that GO box today so that it can get here in time to help all my little clones and sprouts through the majority of their veg. Thanks for taking an interest, I really appreciate it!

Hi everyone, hope you had a nice weekend :) Here's my update for today, 7/7/14.
Orders: GO box from General Hydro is ordered on amazon for only 35$ :D thanks KingJohnC!
-Decided against ordering Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap because I have a ton of insect stuff already, but thanks for the suggestion GFC!
Sorry for not updating yesterday like I said I would, got lazy ;) but my defol experiment on my plants 2 evenings ago was a success IMO. UKH#2 (unknown hybrid #2, not same hybrid as UKH#1) bounced back so quickly that I had to defol it again today, its like it's fan leaves came out of nowhere. Below is a pic of UKH#2 after defoling today, some leaves that came off, and a little mishap during defoling where I was going to remove those 2 fan leaves from this little node (by pinching them off) but it split right down the middle of the stem... we'll see if it heals or not. Left it hanging for now.

Next, some pics of UKH#1, which I defol'ed a little less hardcore than UKH#2, but I'm still happy with the Results. First a pic of UKH#1 from above, showing that the sunlight can now reach lower flower sites more easily. Next, a closeup on early pistil development as it gets into its 2nd week of flowering. Then a pic of one of the top cola areas, where I hope to get some nice sized nugs with any luck :Namaste:

Finally, heres just a couple pics of my BBK and Euphoria sprouts, picking up a little ;) and a pic of my 2 clones (I planted one of my UKH#1 clones yesterday, it's the closest to the cam) showing that first clone, UKH#2, perking up a little. I hope it starts picking up some new growth soon.
