SoilGirl's Indoor Organic Soil Medical Grow Journal - Mars II 1600 & Other LEDs

Did I say drench - I suppose that word works by definition, but the word I was looking for was Dunk. I'm going to dunk OG PR in MGIS then Neem/Pyrethrins. (Too late for me to edit that post :laughtwo:) ... After I make a cut out to hold the mulch in anyways.

Haha I've been late-night meditating with my plants, sitting with the vaporizer in the veg room. Very relaxing. I just feel so at peace in there with the bright colors and sweet foresty smells, enjoying my current meds and watching future ones grow. I've been on an insomnia streak. Time to try and remedy that tonight...

I wish you sound sleep. Have you tried melatonin? It's what my daughter uses to battle her chronic insomnia. It usually works, when she remembers to take it. Scary stuff, that inability to sleep. It messes with your whole being. Your living situation demands a calm and clear mind so your reaction time is at peak mode. Someday they'll legalize cannabis in our provincial commonwealth and she can smoke some of that anxiety away. Until then it would only make her more anxious and paranoid. Now she comes over and breathes in second hand smoke. LOL. We finally figured out that she dealt with her anxiety better until she moved out of our home (we never caught on - she hid it beautifully and we just thought of her as our quirky little princess) because her parents never hid their cannabis usage from her, so she was usually running around or reading in the same room we were smoking in.

So many medicinal uses for this plant. Such short-sightedness on the part of our state legislatures. I'm convinced they're all trying to figure out how to enrich themselves before they legalize. Sorry, mom rant. :green_heart:

SoilGirl, about the mealy bugs. Have you tried using a q-tip with a 50/50 solution of Dawn and water? I use a dish of that to kill the stink bugs that have become a problem in our area over the past couple years. The soap penetrates the exoskeleton and they die. It would be ridiculously labor-intensive initially, but it would also give you lots of one-on-one time with the infested plant. Look for those egg sacs and eradicate. I like to try the simple methods first, before I pull out big guns. When our lacy leaf maple on the balcony had an aphid infestation a couple years back I hit them with a heavy garlic water concoction and the whole block smelled like an Italian restaurant.

The flux looks amazing. That LA is a wonderful teacher. Someday, when we have a nice inventory of meds stocked, I'm going to ask him to teach me his magical ways. I think about it all the time. LOL Think of what I could pull off of that Medical No Name I want to raise!

Hi there Green Dreamz! Great to have you joining us and thank you for all those kind words! :welcome:

Oh my, you consider organic bottled nutes lazy?? I always hated all that mixing with the watering.. >.< I actually feel like the lazier option is just mixing a good soil with lots of organic matter, be that from plants or animals or minerals, whatever, then just watering. As far as LOS, that's basically all you're doing, but people let ACT's and Juice Drenches and the like put them off of getting started on LOS. But honestly, I've never done either. I've only added water. This whole grow...I want to add those down the line when I can afford it... but are they an absolute necessity for a quality harvest, or something that should scare off beginners? Not at all.

Getting started on LOS even with an add-water-only approach would still be monumentally more rewarding than growing with the proverbial "Soup" bottles or chemicals. And that's not my opinion - more of an honest, recurring observation I made during the switch to no bottles organics only a few months ago. Things really are just so much more simple, and the plants are just so much more healthy and expressive of the quality in their genetics. I honestly don't know how this information can be 'out' in the world like it is, yet there still be more of a tendency among cannabis growers everywhere to take the expensive bottled nutes route.

I chalk it up to pure misinformation, and the mindset too many new growers (like myself) have just starting that cannabis is some needy/complicated anomaly of a plant species that needs extra special care and conditions to produce buds, so they go and copy the first person they see that successfully grows some buds, usually Jorge Cervantes or that ilk. It really isn't. It wants what any plant wants, light, water, and a medium to grow in. But I mean, LOS soil is not only simpler to grow in, it's actually really got the potential to be the most affordable (BY FAR) way to grow cannabis period, and honestly, there is no quality of bud that can compare. I mean, no more buying soil, because its getting re-used. No more buying bottles of expensive nutes, because you can source local amendments for free or pennies on the dollar compared to previous expenses (make use of industrial organic byproducts and free humus amendments, start a worm bin and leaf mold pile! If you live by the coasts, source fish emulsion and crab/crustacean/kelp meal, if you live in the mountains source rock dusts and biochar and composted wood, if you live up north, cut your own Peat Moss right out of the freakin ground! etc. I guarantee there's good amendments relatively nearby no matter where you are if you look!) it just really is mindboggling to me lol. Sorry for the little rant I'm just easily impassioned about this subject, and like I said. My mind is overwhelmingly boggled. :laughtwo:  None of that was directed at you specifically, just the world of growers in general lol.

You're too kind GD, I'm glad I've made an impression on you around the site, that's really something cool for me to hear haha. I agree, we really have one generally amazing, open community going on here. It's very selfless for the most part. Not like what I've seen on other forums. Thank you for your support in the whole Dad situation. It can be hard. And aww thank you, no you didn't step over any boundaries lol. Big mouths are welcome here, as long as they're nice, so you should be just fine.

Don't be sorry, I loved your message, and I'm excited to have you here for the journal too :) :volcano-smiley: :Namaste:

Aw hi Sue! Yes I've used melatonin in the past but it lost its efficacy on me after a while. Maybe it will work again for a short time, that's not a bad idea, but I notice I tend to build up a tolerance to all drugs in general pretty fast. Perhaps its the addictive personality instead of biology though. >.< I've had sleeping problems for a long time. In high school I stole xanax and ambien from my Dad, I think I'm still dealing with the fall out from how much I used regarding my insomnia... before I started stealing them from him (he literally had a suitcase stuffed with his pills) I never had any real insomnia problems. Weed really helps. But at times I feel like its delaying me from getting back into a natural cycle of day and night. It can be depressing >.< like you said, it can truly mess with your whole being, day in day out.

I sure hope your daughter didn't get addicted to second hand smoke when she was young lol! You sound like you were some pretty cool, loving parents though.

Yeah as far as cannabis being misunderstood... its ridiculous. I bet the biggest factor is big pharma for state politicians, especially Republicans. Big Pharma is scared shitless about Legal Cannabis, and they should be, since it does such a better job at healing people than most of their so called "real medicine"... I don't understand how American Republicans can be so mentally impaired. They're bending over backwards to keep their corporate campaign funds so they can get re-elected, basing their entire political platform and agenda off of just getting elected, yet if they'd just listen to their constituents on issues like legalizing cannabis, they wouldn't need that funding to get elected!! Who really bases their vote off of those obnoxious campaign commercials anyways? >.< -.- >.< :wood:

P.S. I actually slept alright thanks, got 5 hours, more than normal.
Sorry to hear about the insomnia, sucks! Happens to me sometimes as well, indeed smoking and relaxing with my girls is the remedy I use as well :laughtwo:

 wish you sweet dreams
It's a very very nice remedy isn't it :laughtwo: I feel zen just thinking about. I've been watching these kids shows called the Legend of Korra hahaha, the Taoist spirituality they advocate resonates very strongly with me, although I'm really against conventional religion. It inspired me to meditate with my plants like how I was shown to by my ex martial arts master. I'm going to start doing that more often again, making the different palm shapes and everything. :Namaste:

Thanks for the kind words/stopping by.

Hahahaha you're right I'm probably jumping the gun with OG PR. I Just So Hate Those Dang Mealybugs. I also read that rubbing alcohol/peroxide on a q-tip kills them. And I've been picking through the leaves and squishing them with my fingernails haha. I might as well do the q tip thing, I definitely spend enough time in there to lol.

LA is awesome, a pillar of this community. The whole organics/soup/chemicals/Soil Vs. Hydro debate aside, LA certainly created the best, most consistent cannabis plant training formula around, beyond repute. Like he really turned a crude art into a science. Fascinating stuff. I know you'll love learning from him when the time comes :)

Hahahaha. Creative is a nice way of putting it. I have the same freaking problem. Once I'm stoned in there with them, its like, oh I can train that branch down further..... *snap* oh sh*t! It's OK I can fix it with this piece of tape-*snaps off* F***KKK! I swear there's a clumsy big-footed blacksmith of a man somewhere inside this girl body trying to get out while I'm high :laughtwo: he's smashed a few bongs of mine too >.< arghh. I fear I never shall vanquish him. -.- I fear he'll vanquish me even more :laughtwo:

Happy Skunkday GD

I was just wondering on my own journal recently about how a method of growing that's so easy isn't more widely embraced by the cannabis community at large. It might be the necessity to take at least a month to cook the soil before planting, or, like you pointed out, the idea that the plants need some kind of pampering in order to grow. I reminded myself when I was starting that they call it "weed" for a reason. Easiest, heartiest plant on earth, and this is, IMO, the easiest, simplest way to grow it.

The big pharma companies aren't scared, SoilGirl. It's worse than that. They're in collusion with the legislators, trying to persuade them that only the pharmaceutical companies are worthy of growing and marketing medical cannabis. Not the future we need at all.

Sue, 100% with you on the first paragraph as you know. But idk, if big pharma isn't scared of legal cannabis, thinking they can get a monopoly on it, then they're stupid. The whole 420 society is very grassroots, mom + pop shop oriented everywhere that it has developed. Maybe things are just different in Colorado, but, I really don't see people letting big pharma take over here. People here are generally progressive, healthy, afraid of GMO's, against corporatization, all about being self sufficient, etc.

I mean, I really see potential for public outrage here if Mom + Pop shops start getting phased out by big business, we won't let that happen. We're proud to have led the way for the rest of the world in decriminalization, and we sure aren't going to let us screw it up for anyone else. Decriminalization was meant to benefit the people, not big business, and I really think I'm one of many thousands of young people ready to fight for that belief here. We really have lost a lot of faith in our conventional healthcare system, nickel-and-diming you into your grave, giving you meds that mix toxicly or which you don't need at all so they can make a profit, overcharging for every service provided, and generally just being an institution of evil that murders people who deserve much better so that they can turn a bigger profit.. we can do better as a society. We should, and I think we will. :Namaste:

But yes, I know very well that big pharma is in cahoots with politicians, every politician in the US is pushing one corporate agenda or another (or many many many). a government of the corporations, for the corporations. That's basically what they were saying when they ruled corporations were people. It disgusts me >.< its awful.

Yet, I think the future we need is the future we'll get regarding cannabis... one way or another :Namaste: There'll be obstacles... but there always are... big pharma is too corrupt and cannabis is too pure for it to be taken over, imo. Living in Colorado, weed is a big part of a lot of people's lives lol, big pharma, who are they? Where are they? They're not your neighbors. But your neighbors may very well own a dispensary or work at one. ;)

May that grassroots movement continue SoilGirl. I'm an eternal optimist, believing that we can finally end this dangerous prohibition that has divided our country and empowered criminal enterprises the world over. The frustration comes from having held that belief for over 40 years. I honestly can't believe every state in the Union hasn't jumped on Colorado's bandwagon already, but I also believe that the call of tax revenues is going to be an irresistible siren call in the end. We need to end the underground mentality and bring us all out into the sunshine, allowing us to grow our own meds and take back the control of our health care.

To a brighter future imbued with the freedom we all yearn for. A new year is just ahead. Let's see what wonders come our way this time.

I should have something to smoke for that toast. ;) It will have to wait until Wednesday.

:Namaste:

:thumb: looks good
oopsie sorry I missed your post until now :) Thank you Bud Grant!

LOL I don't know why I'm so ranty lately Sue.. But I'd be glad to provide your smoke for that toast! (All I have is one big old Euphoria nug left lol, I just finished the second to last one, in the bong for a change. I'm so glad I got the vaporizer afterwards hahaha)

I'm totally with you Sue :) it's about time we made the change for our society. Whether we end up changing the laws for the right reasons (freedom, medicine, ...it's a harmless plant...) or the wrong ones (tons of tax $...) I don't really care. It just has to happen. We can deal with our f**ked up values later... >.<

I really enjoy chatting with you Sue :)
nice plants soilgirl :)
Aw thanks b.real! You're too kind. :) :roorrip:

Sweetsue do you know or teach about jury nullification?

Sweetsue do you know or teach about jury nullification?

Yes I do Smoker Joe. I believe it is a valuable tool in trying to create a more just Justice system, but should be carefully considered before application. May I ask in what context you bring it up?

It goes hand in hand with activism. Having the jury judge the law instead of a victimless crime goes with almost any activism so just figured to ask.

Agreed.

Quick Update

Well first, here's my last nug of Euphoria LOL. Blew through that last harvest fast >.< ugh. Oh well. It was enjoyed. And I can still make butter and hash.

Now I know. 5 pics, one nug? boring. But. I really am camera challenged lol, and I want to see what they look like up here before I choose next months NOTM entries for me. Plus I've just about typed my fingers off the last few days, they're on vacation relaxing so, the pics are gonna take over the journal again for now. :laughtwo:

And yes they are considerably less pretty .... but I have high hopes, under the guidance of LA. So I'm going to go share those over at his flux central thread now. :)

Hahaha aw thanks nhteatime :) I like the 4th and 5th one best... or maybe 1st and 4th. hmm.. :circle-of-love:

Actually Soilgirl the 3rd picture looks awful frosty - you could call her the Blizzard bud lol

Hey on the flux, doesnt it kill you to defol? I hate doing it - I feel like im torturing the poor thing. Bad enough to tie her down but to cut off so much ugggg I know the reward is great in the end but to get there its killer. I just keep looking over at Lightaddicts guide to reassure myself. Yours still look pretty - they should be huge in the end - How much longer till you let them go vertical?
