SOGgy Daze Ahead For Mr. Krip!

Mr. K.

I need to buy some of those bags. I have been saving up the trim and have a bunch to process. I have been looking at picking up a press as well. Do you have the screw-type or hydraulic?

I have one of the smaller and cheaper, screw types. It's just a barrel with some end caps and spacers inside that can be removed as needed. I haven't had the quantity, yet, to warrant a hydraulic, but you probably do! :adore:

There are a couple of DIY's on how to build your own hydraulic press out of a car jack. Let me know if you want to check them out and I'll pm you a link.

There are a couple of nicer screw-types on the market that have the "T-handle" and are more industrial strength. One you may want to look at is called the "Piecemaker" and will probably be the next one I get (or something similar):

PINEAPPLE EXPRESS BUD

I pulled out one of the PE buds, and she was so pretty, before I started grinding her up for the vape, I had to take a couple shots.

Same bud, different angles:

I looked this thing up and at $120+ was like wow, lemme look around. Found a copy cat on fleabay for like $25 or so.

NEWEST OF THE TWO LUCY BONSAIS

The younger of two Lucy Bonsais, which is actually a clone of the older Lucy Bonsai, is now about two months old and time to show her off! :)

She's still in her original 16 oz. hempy and has been getting only LST. She hasn't been topped or given any clones, yet, other than the original UBT to get THREE tops (she had staggered nodes, so I couldn't get four!):

Here's some of her branching:

You can see where she got some "radical" LST:

And, it's resulted in a nice, short, and very bushy Bonsai plant:

Quick question K., I'm itching to get ahold of one of those 220 bags...I'm seeing them from 9+$ up to 50 or so...Would a 1 gallon bag be suitable for small batches of hash, in your opinion? Or is it better to use the 5 gal?

Yeah, I have a one-gallon set of the original Bubble Bags I got a great price on and couldn't pass up.

The one gallon's, IMHO, are too small for ice water extraction BUT are fine for DRY ICE extraction.

That last batch of hash I made in a one-gallon 220 bag and put a little over 2 oz. of trim (maybe 3 oz. - I didn't weigh it) all in at once with the dry ice, and processed in one batch. I could have easily done more, but not a whole lot more - mayabe another ounce or two.

That being said, if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably get a 3-bag set of full mesh 5-gallon bags (the "original" Bubble Bags are only mesh on the bottom, so they drain very slowly when doing ice water extraction).

I'd get a 220, 160, and 25 bag and, IMHO, that would serve well for BOTH dry ice AND ice water extractions.

With ice water, the 220 will filter out all plant material, the 160 is the lower grade, cooking stuff. And, all the good stuff ends up in the 25.

for dry ice, you can decide if you want to use either the 220 or the 160 depending on the quality of trichomes you're looking to extract.

Even though I have an 8-bag set, and did it the first time I did ice water extraction, I will never again want to seperate into seven different grades of hash. It's just overkill.

In short, you'll be fine with a single 220 bag for DRY ice extraction (you can always add more, later, if desired) and the one-gallon will work fine, but I recommend going with the 5-gallon, if you can afford it, and also recommend the full mesh bags.

Thanks Mr. Krip!! Thats exaclty the info I was after!! I'd rep you but I just did a little while ago. I DO plan to use dry ice, and your post was very helpful. I think, for my purposes, the 1 gallon mesh bottom will suffice. If it worked for you, I think I can make it work for me too. I'm actually pretty excited to try it!
On with the search then....
Thanks again!

ok dangit, now you guys got me confused again.

I have a 76 (or 79) micron full mesh bag.

Just use this or get a 160 too? Am I missing out on any good quality using the 76 only?

*dry ice method as well.

If you only use a 220 you will have a bunch of plant matter mixed in with the hash. As stated, I would get a assortment of bags or atleast a smaller size screen.

The 220 bag will filter out all the plant material, but it does allow for lower quality hash (stuff normally caught by the 160 bag) to get through. But, if you follow my previous instructions, you can stop the extraction when the blond trichs start to turn green and avoid the lower quality kief (NOT plant material!).

Here's a pro demonstrating...Note his use of the 420 bag and how he separates the different grades:

Dry Ice Hash Demo - YouTube

Bass, yes, you're missing out. The 76 micron bag usually CATCHES the BEST stuff. But, when you use the 76 bag for dry ice extraction, you're only getting what PASSES THROUGH the 76 bag. I recommend going to either the 220 or 160.

 I just noticed I made a typo above and called the 220 bag a "420 bag" when I was introducing the video demo. That should read "220 bag" which is the bag used in the demo. :sorry:

I couldn't agree more Mr K i got a "full set of 5 gallon bags" not bubble but there still within the top 5 bags available on the market, 5 gallon is still very tight for ice water extraction and takes a very long time to process a lot of trim not to mention the mess so i dread to think what the 1 gal's would be like.

The first run i used all bags and it was a good run with a few G's of all the different types of hash it was nice smoking the full melt pure and boy it put me on my arse lol but it doesn't compensate for the time it takes and the mess it makes, after using them about 5 times it started to feel like a chore i ended up with a full up freezer of trim.

I have just sourced a dry ice dealer here in the uk so my next run and all others will be with the 160u dry ice method then again with the 220u for cooking.

:goodjob:

I just got a set of 5 5 gallon bags after the working bag 220 it gets 99% of the material out anyways so I wood figure with that you wood end up with a consistent lower grade hash. If it was me, I want the lower end to be just that, lower end. And the stuff off the the 25 micron screen in my pipe. JK Sometime the gland heads are smaller than the gland stalks, which is why the 5 bag set might be your best bet. The hashes from different levels looks different colors too. GL with what ya get. They are pretty cheap on line, but you want something you'll just not have to say I should've. Keep em Green BTW sweet little babies.....
