Quick question K., I'm itching to get ahold of one of those 220 bags...I'm seeing them from 9+$ up to 50 or so...Would a 1 gallon bag be suitable for small batches of hash, in your opinion? Or is it better to use the 5 gal?
Yeah, I have a one-gallon set of the original Bubble Bags I got a great price on and couldn't pass up.
The one gallon's, IMHO, are too small for ice water extraction BUT are fine for DRY ICE extraction.
That last batch of hash I made in a one-gallon 220 bag and put a little over 2 oz. of trim (maybe 3 oz. - I didn't weigh it) all in at once with the dry ice, and processed in one batch. I could have easily done more, but not a whole lot more - mayabe another ounce or two.
That being said, if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably get a 3-bag set of full mesh 5-gallon bags (the "original" Bubble Bags are only mesh on the bottom, so they drain very slowly when doing ice water extraction).
I'd get a 220, 160, and 25 bag and, IMHO, that would serve well for BOTH dry ice AND ice water extractions.
With ice water, the 220 will filter out all plant material, the 160 is the lower grade, cooking stuff. And, all the good stuff ends up in the 25.
for dry ice, you can decide if you want to use either the 220 or the 160 depending on the quality of trichomes you're looking to extract.
Even though I have an 8-bag set, and did it the first time I did ice water extraction, I will never again want to seperate into seven different grades of hash. It's just overkill.
In short, you'll be fine with a single 220 bag for DRY ice extraction (you can always add more, later, if desired) and the one-gallon will work fine, but I recommend going with the 5-gallon, if you can afford it, and also recommend the full mesh bags.
