Looking good, @Twalte . Quadlines are coming along nicely. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the two different systems. Both should work great.

Somehow I got disconnected from updates to your thread being posted in my notifications, but I'm all caught up now.

I only grow in soil so can't help you with the coco side, but Bill"s your GoTo guy there.

Thanks @Azimuth! I’m really struggling with choosing a medium for these Octopots. I will pick @Bill284’s brain to see what the big difference will be if I use coco instead of soil. I’m reading up on the topic today.

Soil is so familiar to me, but the inventor highly encourages using soiless mediums. I already have a bag of coco loco on hand, so I’ll likely go that route. The other option was called “Sunshine Mix #4”…..something I need to research today.

Thanks again for your help!

A quick update on the Quadline plants that were flipped to 12/12 lighting on Wednesday (5 days ago). Lighting has been dimmed to provide a Daily Light Integral of 38. Resulting ppfd and lux values are shown below. They look like they could benefit from another defoliation. Also seeing some leaf yellowing on a few older fan leaves…..nitrogen deficiency going into flower. It appears minimal, so I assume I’ll just keep up with maximizing the Lucas formula (8ml of GH Flora Micro/16ml Bloom). Overall, plants are less than 1 inch taller since the flip.

AC Infinity self-feeding wick system is working well, but it only holds two days of liquid before they run dry…at least with mature plants. Other than that, they beat hand watering daily with these fiber pots.

Seeing white spots possibly growing on fiber pots….mold, mildew??? Do I need to kill this mildew off for risk of bud rot?

I get it on the cloth bags now and then.
Usually just wipes off.
Never caused any issues in the grow rooms.
Lot'sof air circulation and rh control.

Thanks for the input! I’m sorry for the delay in responding! I do appreciate your help.

I’m kind of wondering if it’s not Mykos from my transplant. It’s only growing in the bottom third where the SWICK is working. I’m using two different thicknesses of fiber pots and it’s only happening on the cheap thin fiber pot. It could be salts too, but it’s so “spotty” that it looked more like mold. It doesn’t appear to be spreading.

I run coco , run off every day.
Some of the cheaper bags are coated in salts by the end of flower.
Some I just rinse and re use.
But some get thrown out, so much salts built up.
Then if you have a good root zone you get fungi sometimes.
What color is it ?

Good Day!
Everything is growing great here in the first 9 days of 12/12 lighting. Not too much stretch on the Quadline plants. In fact, I’m concerned about how short they are. I have plenty of headroom in the 6’ tall tent, and maybe 1-2 inches of headroom left in the 4’ tall tent.

Feeding the Lucas Formula with GH Flora per gallon at 8ml Micro, 16ml Bloom. Added 3 ml Liquid KoolBloom and 3ml of CalMag. I will plan to maintain that mix through harvest unless conditions change. A long-time grower passed along that Lucas recommendation and it’s worked great for me. I had been using the GH Flora full line of nutrients and supplements. I plan to add Terpinator to the mix starting week 4 of flower.

Overall, the AC Infinity self watering pots are nice. They are not saving me any time at this point since their small one gallon reservoir needs to be filled daily. However, this bottom-up feeding that only provides water to the bottom third of the pot seems to be well-received by the plants. It also stands to reason that fungus gnats would be minimized too since the top 2 inches of soil is dry. I’m just about sold on the entire concept of “sub irrigated planters” (SIPs and SWICKs). My watering was always too much runoff or too little runoff…this system seems right. Now we wait to see if I experience any excessive salt buildups later in flower. Here is an example of a reservoir that i filled yesterday. It’s almost empty today.

The Godfather OG has really filled in with leaves, but she’s still short. Granted, it’s only day 9 of flower. I plan to defoliate in week 3 of flower. For now, I selectively remove a few leaves each morning but it’s minimal. I also removed all of the landscape stakes and ties holding the branches down. I won’t need my 36” stakes to hold up these buds….they’re probably going to be small.

And here is the LA Peyote Kush. She’s looking beautiful at the moment too, but ready for a haircut. I also removed the stakes and tie downs here too.

And finally, the Purple Ghost Candy in her 2x2 SCROG. The SCROG was the only way I could see growing a Sativa in a 48” tent. She’s been in flower for 13 days. I have the lamp raised to the ceiling and 8 inches above the canopy. It’s getting tight in there. I may have to zip tie the lamp to the top of the tent to pick up a few more inches if she continues to grow.

Those Timber LEDs look great, cool setup. We pretty much run the same nutrients. I run kinda Lucas formula after the stretch, cut the maxi grow out.
Cheers, pretty plants
Thanks GainesvilleGreen!

These COBs are pretty old technology nowadays, but I can’t justify a new LED yet. I’ll bet these new LEDs would blow it away with less wattage too.

So far so good with the Lucas formula, but I still have 8 more weeks of flower ahead of me. Time will tell whether I decide to use this formula next time. So far it’s been great. That’s interesting that you cut out the Micro. I was wondering whether that’s too much nitrogen in flower.

Cheers!

Moving day today for the Purple Ghost Candy. She is in week 3 of 12/12. I had her tied down in a SCROG in my 2x2x4 veg tent, but I felt that the LED was too dim around the permitter of the grow tent. I wanted a stronger LED, so I’m adding a 150 watt LED to my drying tent (2x2x4). Much better par map, especially in the corners. I want my par between 500 and 1100. I also added some cheap Amazon LED light bars to the corners of the tent. I simply used two sided tape to attach magnets to the back of the LED bars….so there’s another 45 watts in the tent for a total of 195 watts. I will use the Photone app to measure the light in the corners later today.

This move frees up my veg tent for the next round of seedlings. It also lets me start my tomato plants a few weeks early before moving them outside.

Anyway, here she is in Week 3 of flower without her SCROG net. Now that she’s free of the SCROG net, I did do a minor defoliation.

Huge shout out to Azimuth and Bill284 for turning me onto the Quadlining process to keep my plants short and wide. That’s the only way I can use these 2x2x4 tents. I’m a permanent convert.

Quick update on Godfather OG #quadline. It’s been two weeks in flower now, so a “before and after” photo makes sense to see what’s happened in 14 days. I’ve been removing leaves every day during the last two weeks, at least those that block other bud sites. I can’t bring myself to do a heavier defoliation. As you can see in the third photo, these plants are short.

A quick look at L.A. Peyote Kush. Her leaves may be saying “ too much light”. I’ll monitor, but the plants are getting a relatively high dose of photons.

Just a little tip.:Namaste:
If you are going to defol do it all at once.
When you pull leaves she thinks she is being eaten by a predator.
Creating a hormonal reaction within the plant.
This slows steady growth.
You keep pecking away she keeps thinking protection mode not growth.
Once it dissipates normal growth returns.
Obviously she is still growing, but not at her full rate.
Just my 2 pennies my friend.
Girls are awesome.
Nice work.
Have a great day. :high-five:

Interesting. @Hafta takes a few leaves every day throughout veg and says the stress of it helps to build better roots.

Lot's of ways to grow this plant it seems...

I'm not a fan of defol personally. :Namaste:
I like to grow big healthy roots before I flip.
Then in flower all those leaves get fed by the root system.
Then I have those huge fan leaves absorbing energy giving my buds everything they need to get big and hard.
I know everyone has their own way that works for them.:thumb:
Yours obviously is excellent and works well.
I'll follow along and learn how you do your garden .
It's great that we all have different approaches to our gardens.
The learning never ends.
Have a great day.

It is true I remove 40 -60 leaves per day throughout veg, mostly new growth. I leave as many full sized fan leaves as possible.. IMO this is perceived as normal by the plant and it accommodates the extra strain by increasing the root mass. Below is a photo of the root system the day of flip, about seven weeks above ground. The reservoir is 20" x 24" and 11" deep. It is kind of difficult to see how massive they really are.

BD22 D48-3.JPG

To @Bill284 's point, I perform a massive defoliation (100+ new, upper leaves only) three weeks after flip to get the referenced hormonal reaction Bill is referring to. After this, no more defoliation takes place, allowing the plant to put all of its energy into bud formation and growth.

There are many ways to grow this wonderful plant.

P.S. The root mass is still increasing.

Today is the start of week 3 of 12/12 for the Godfather OG and LA Peyote Kush. The Quadlining really kept them short. They grew from 11” to 16” this week, and I expect a little more stretch this week. I’m sorry for the full image pictures….I wish there was a way to load smaller photos. I was planning to defoliate in week 3 after seeing @Hafta photos above, but i am concerned with stressing the plant. I believe there’s a Kyle Kushman video on defoliation on YouTube that may help teach the process to me.

So here’s a quick photo update of the bloom transition. I love this phase.

Godfather OG front and top pictures. A lot of bud sites ready to burst.

Finally, the Purple Ghost Candy has been freed of her SCROG net and allowed to go “au natural”. I tried to grow her in a 2x2x4 tent, but she outgrew it. She’s really taken off and grew FAST! I’m excited to smoke this Sativa-heavy strain.
