Smokey's Mystery Bud - First CFL/Soil Grow 2010

4 years is quite a spell! A buddy of mine just popped some ak48 beans that had been in the little butter compartment of my refrigerator for well over a year! I was surprised! Apparently they popped with more vigor than some fresh seeds! Go figure! ;)

That is exactly where mine have been stored for 4 years! haha! I have read that in an air tight container in the freezer is the best place for long term storage. And the expiration on that is 2 years.

I think I may try that seed laser treatment that I read about on here the other day. See if that can spring a little life into these ladies. I still have 7 GB seeds left so I may as well experiment!

Will you be buding your plant's under the t-5 light's?Have thought about adding some to my flowering box to provide light to the lower part of the canopy,or making a rig to hold CFL bulb's.

Good luck with the mystery seed's you just dont get good bag seed's anymore.I used to hate gettig seed's now I go looking for them.

Yea man I'm going to be using the T5 for budding also. I will just switch the bulbs out with 2700K bulbs. The rig I am currently building will add 6 more CFL's to the T5 I'm already using.

And you are right about good seeds. With everyone's goal being sinsemilla, it's very rare to find anything worth planting. That's why whenever I do find them, I keep them. Even if I didn't plan on growing soon, at least I had them. The MC1 sprout I have is from seeds I found and saved for 3 years. Sprouted no problem.

Thanks for stopping through! :thumb:

Hey all my 420mag buddies out there! Hope you're enjoying this gorgeous Sunday. Well, let's get down to business. Picture update of my ladies (fingers crossed!)!!! We have had some nice development over the last 17 days, or however long its been. I keep track in a physical journal with all the specifics, but an estimate will do just fine here. OK, on to the magic!

Here are the 2 mystery sprouts, MB2 & MB3, after breaking surface.

And here's MB2 close up, after transplant to the Solo cup.

Now we have the lovely MB3 after transplant as well.

Next up is a pic of MB1. She's got her second leaf set going strong.

20100919122901.jpg

And here's MC1, also continuing growth on the second leaf set.

Finally, here is GB3. This is another of the 4 year old feminized God Bud seeds. The sprout is continuing to grow, but looks extremely underdeveloped and yellow. I'm just gona let her do her thing and see what happens.

Ok, now for some observations. My new sprouts, MB2 and MB3, are much taller sprouts. MB1 and MC1 are only about 1"-1.5" tall and already have 2 leaf sets. MB2 and MB3 are about 2"-2.5" tall and barely even have the first true leaves. All sprouts, besides GB3, look extremely healthy.

Also, the seed I have had soaking in H20, MP1, still has shown no signs of development. Well, I hope you all have a good week and enjoy the pics!

Thanks for the good vibes Firestone, but the sprout turned out to be a dud. The cotelydon never formed, and its just kept turning more yellow, so I declared her deceased. Plus, the seedling tray was taking up room under my light. Time to concentrate all my energies on my 4 lovely sprouts!

Time for the part you have all been waiting for ... pics!

Here is a nice family photo ...

First up, MB1. Looking great ... starting on that 3rd leaf set!

Next, we got MC1. Nice and green just how I like it!

Now we have MB2. Still workin on that first leaf set.

And last, but not least, we have MB3. Another healthy looking lady!

Alright so that's all I have for now. These are the best pics I have seen out of my phones camera yet. Found a macro setting and I think that is what made the difference.

So, plans for the week include continuing care, installing a small oscillating fan to thicken those stems up, and finish building/install the additional light fixture with 6 23w CFL's on it.

Updates may slow just a tad, because work has picked up so I don't have too much time to mess around. But I won't forget about you guys! Well, as long as you don't forget about me.

I forgot to mention one thing I have noticed. The MB strain must be pretty solid in its genetics because so far all of the sprouts first leaf sets have looked almost identical. I know it is a little early, but with how close they look to each other, it was difficult to ignore. I'm hoping this means that I will end up with a nice finished product! Always hopeful ... good night people!

Hey Smokey, checkin in again and im stoked to see the sprouts doing well! how long are you gonna veg them before you start flowering? Can't wait to see how they do!

Thanks everyone for stopping in to take a look!

And kylester, I don't really have a pre-determined vegging period. I am going to LST so that the entire main stem of each plant is horizontal. I want to get maximum yield, so the longer I can veg them, the better for me!

I will be doing a ton of work on this grow this weekend. Transplanting to final pots, more lighting, fans and whatever else I have time for. So, many pics to come after I get all that done!

Smokey, great tip on the blanket TY and nice set up ya got going there. I'll be following this one, I am preparing to embark on the CFL in dirt journey myself.
keep up the good work

Wow. Thanks for the love everyone!

funnystyle, I was a little sketchy on that MC1 myself, but she is looking better everyday! I'll have new pics up tomorrow after the transplant.

And Wingman, glad to have you on board! You do so much for the community around here, it's an honor to have you stop by!

Like I said in an earlier post, very busy weekend with the girls starts today! Can't wait to show you guys when I'm done. I also have to help my neighbor chop down his 3 outdoor girls today. This was his first attempt, so after doing a little cropping for him and watching the ladies over the months, he has offered me half the harvest! So lots of trimming, scissor hash, and tired fingers today. But all well worth it!!

Be easy people!! RoorRip

Alright everybody, I know it's been awhile since my last update. Well here is a quick recap of where I am at right now. I didn't get to accomplish what I wanted last weekend. With helping my neighbor with his girls and some other stuff, the weekend was gone before I knew it. So, I definitely will be transplanting this weekend as well as constructing my additional lighting.

I do have an issue that I am going to need some help with. I have 3 sprouts that are looking gorgeous. They are MC1, MB2 and MB3. The one I am having a problem with is MB1, which at the start was my healthiest plant. All four sprouts have received the exact same treatment. FFOF with 25% perlite, no added nutes yet, PH balanced water when needed. I can't seem to figure out whats going on. Maybe a nute lockout. She has just seemed to stop growing, leaves are slightly wilted and are starting to yellow. I know this doesn't help much now, but I am at work so as soon as I get home tonight I will post pics of all the ladies.

The last watering was 2 days ago. The water had a PH of about 7-7.5 and the runoff was about 6.5-7 across the board. So I don't think it is a PH issue. Again, pics later, but figured I would get the word out there so you guys can maybe do a little thinking while I'm at work.

Check back later for pics, it will be worth it! The 3 healthy girls are starting to take off!

lets make that runoff a tad bit lower! im still trying to figure out if ph kept around 5.5-6.0 would be better than a more neutral ph. i am aware mmj can grow under extreme ph conditions, but even the top growers might say mmj would thrive in a slightly more acidic environment. :smokin:

funnystyle, I know that is true for hydroponics. But, from all the journals I have read around here, 7 is the goal for soil. I started with hydro for my first grows and PH was always between 5.8-6. When I decided to go to soil for this grow, I did a ton of research (as I usually do) and everything has been telling me 7 for soil.

Thanks for the input though!

Hey everyone. Back as promised. Just uploaded some pics of the ladies and packed a fresh bowl of some dank White Rhino. Check out what we got.

First up, MB2. She is looking very strong.

20100930204110.jpg

And here we have MB3 looking just as lovely.

20100930204126.jpg

20100930204132.jpg

Now here is MC1. New growth is looking great, but the first set of spear leaves have yellowed, and the second set are looking kind of droopy.

20100930204143.jpg

20100930204152.jpg

Finally, MB1. Not looking very good at all. Can't pinpoint anything. Help here would be greatly appreciated.

20100930204035.jpg

So there you have it. Not all is bad as you can see. Talked with the wife today and definitely transplanting this weekend. More root space definitely can't hurt. Well, hopefully someone can help me out with some direction with MB1. Thanks in advance!

Oh, and check out this nug I manicured out of the neighbors outdoor. Not a great pic, but I'm very pleased with my manicuring. Can't wait to give this a test! :tokin:

Hope you all enjoy. Be easy!
