Smokey's Mystery Bud - First CFL/Soil Grow 2010

Glad you got to go boarding!! It is snowing here right now, just nice and lite!

Yea, it was a really good time. Got to hang with my brother, so that's always cool. It was snowing there too, but the same thing, really light stuff.

I can't wait to do an update later. MaryBeth is getting more and more beautiful. She needs to be fed again tonight. She is really hungry and thirsty this girl. I will be bumping up the nutes to the "Late flowering" mixture in my schedule for the next 2 feedings. So approximately 1 week. Then I will be bumping them up again to the "Later flowering" mixture until about Dec. 28, which will be 8 weeks flowering at that time. This can change depending on trich development, but I think this schedule is pretty solid. After the 28th, I will start the flush and just wait for harvest. Again, this is all just a guess right now until I see how the trich's are coming along in a couple weeks.

I believe she is going to be a very good plant. The amount of trichs I am seeing right now is amazing me, and the smell is wonderful. I cant wait til shes ready. I'm thinking around the 1st or second week of January.

Check back later for pics!

Alright, time for the pics you've all been waiting for. Gave MaryBeth a nice feeding today. I also trimmed out some fan leaves to try and increase light penetration to the bud sites. Check out her progress.

We are at day 35 of flowering, so right about half way done!

Hope you all enjoy. I will be watering with molasses next watering, and then feeding again with the same strength nutes as this feeding. Things should really be picking up over the coming weeks. At least I hope so!

Smokey,

Whats the benefits of molasses as apposed to staying with regular flower nuts?

Mardo, I use molasses as a supplement along with my nutrient feeding schedule. From what I have read, the molasses help feed the bacteria in your soil and these bacteria in turn make nutrients easier for the plant to uptake through it's root system. People also claim that it can make your buds stickier, heavier and sweeter. I believe only good things can come of using molasses in soil.

What a great journal :goodjob: with the grow. The buds look spectacular and we all look forward to your next pics. I am including a link to your journal in my welcomes to new members I believe many members will benefit from reading this.

Wow. Wingman, thank you for checking out my journal. I am truly honored to have someone of your merit throw me a compliment!

:thankyou: :peace: and of course :bong:

Hey everyone. If you have been following along, then you will know that I mentioned that I was anticipating temperature issues. It has got cold over the past couple of days, and I am getting worried. I came home today to check, and the temps had a low of 37 degrees. Not good.

So my space is about 32 cubic feet. I was thinking that a small space heater would do the trick. I have one that I bought last year. It's pretty nice, has a cheap thermostat and an oscillating function. As a test, I threw it in the grow box, set the thermostat on the second setting and let her rip. An hour later I went out to check. The temp went from around 46 degrees to 81 degrees. Perfect.

From this I figure the space heater will be an acceptable solution, for now. I think I will be reconsidering the location of my grow area after this girl is done.

I do have a question though. As good as the cheap thermostat works on the heater, I really don't trust it. I would like to know if anyone has any experience with the plug in thermostats? How much did you pay and how well do they function? I would like to know just a few basics before I shell out any $ for one of these things.

Dude you've done a great job! Every time you post a new pic it looks 10x better then the last!!!

Hey Smokey you're an inspiration! She looks awesome. Great job.

I have one of those adjustable radiator style oil filled heaters, they work great and are pretty efficient. But I don't know how they'd work with a thermostat. It's super cold here right now, the lights keep the room close to 80 in the day, but at night I turn it on and keep it about 70. In a day or two you'd know the setting you needed. :peace:

Thanks Blue! From the test I did with the space heater last night, I'm just gona go with that and use it on a timer until I can afford the plug in thermostat. A good one seems to run around $50-$60. But the space heater was very efficient in my small space. When I checked, the heater was off (because of the thermostat) and the temp had risen nearly 40 degrees in less than an hour. I gota keep those roots warm!

Looks like she's coming along great Smokey!:welldone:

Question about the molasses, can you add it at the same time you do the nutes? Or is it better to stagger the waterings? I.E.-molasses one watering, nutes next watering?

To tell you the truth Twitch, I have no idea. I assume that you could add molasses to your nute mixture with no issues, but I am not positive. Personally, I don't like to give my plants too much at one sitting. Less is more in my opinion, this is why I like to stagger the molasses and nute feedings.

I figure that I feed nutes one watering. Then by the next watering there is most likely nutes still left in the soil. So adding molasses at that time will help the plant use up all the nutes in the soil that are available (or most of them anyway). This helps me ensure that I won't burn her. That's just my opinion, and it seems to work well for me.

I'm not one of those "shove everything you can" into the soil kinda guys. My baby has been dark green throughout, so to think she needs anything more than what I am giving would be counterproductive, I think.
