Well there's the slicer, which you input all your settings . The board of the machine, has its own firmware. That you can plug into and upgrade and tweak and whatnot. It's essentially a fat Arduino board .

Wise. I spent a month at the makerspace getting to learn how they quirk. Same with the software. Fusions not easy, but it's not as complex as Blender. Still gotta spend a good months worth learning Fusion. Or Id suggest playing with TinkerCAD. Browser based.
Play with TinkerCAD. Same company that does Fusion 360. Very similar to Fusion, just shape-based.
