My new way to decide on strains. Write down any new or interesting strains every year. Check back in 5 years and if they are still around then buy some.
Only problem I see with that strategy is that, upon occasion, good genetics DO get lost. Or watered down (/"improved"), taken (breeders have been busted), et cetera. Okay, two problems: In a commercial marketplace, it is possible for a real jewel to disappear if Joe Consumer doesn't buy enough of them each year to make it worth the breeder's time, finite space, et cetera. I can remember a time when short-flowering strains were all the rage and the market wasn't exactly saturated with good sativas. That's changed a bit in the past few years.
I once read a lot of good things about Afropips' strains. I told myself that, someday, I'd pick a few up and try them for myself. I haven't seen that breeder selling for years. Probably no longer exists as a commercial entity (I think someone died).
