Scrogdawg's White Widow Fem Grow

Ok, I have a question....I keep seeing almost the same iteration of the DWC or RDWC (not sure the true nomenclature)

Is this a home built system or a kit?

I know @Grandpa Tokin has a similar setup. (not exactly but similar).

Trying to figure out what the piping is used for. I am guessing it's a circulation system, with possibly a cooler, pump and filter.....

DWC (Deep Water Culture) is like a single pod system where you have to add nute water to each pod as the water level drops. RDWC (Recirculating Deep Water Culture) is a system of connected pods to a reservoir that feeds them all.

This is my home made RDWC setup. It has a submersible pump in the remote reservoir that pumps through the smaller PVC piping to each pod supplying the nute water. The larger PVC piping is the return line to the reservoir to allow for continuous circulation 24 hours a day. Each pod has an airstone in the bottom to ensure adequate dissolved oxygen in the water.

Ok, I like the design.

Are there any pitfalls with an RDWC system? (besides a power outage)

If properly designed, a power outage is just an inconvenience, as it reverts to a DWC when it has no forced flow. But mistakes in pH or nute mixtures show up rapidly and can decimate your plants in no time. All in all there are way more bonuses than pitfalls if you're a considered, methodical grower.

How often is the reservoir changed, or is it changed?

That's partly dependent on reservoir size and personal preference, but watching the plants/pH/ nute strength will let you know when it's time. I flush my system every two weeks whether it needs it or not.

I can't even imagine going with a DWC or RDWC. I'm in a very small tent.....ok I have a very small tent that isn't set up.

I'll watch you guys, maybe in the future........... I need to get through one first....I think......

I have everything down except finishing, harvesting, curing.......

My first RDWC was in one half of a 4x4 with a soil grow in the other half. Once you go RDWC you'll never go back to playing in the dirt. (unless you hug trees and smell of patchouli and are dedicated to all things organic )

edit: just kidding, I love my stinkie hippie brethren and sistren.

Hey.....I like patchoulli.....trees are all barkie.....organic is cool..... :ganjamon::passitleft:

Hahaha! Stinky hippies! Get a haircut, pull your pants up, and get the f*ck off my grass!

LOL...."GET OFF MY LAWN!!!"

I have no hair, well not much to speak of, my pants are around my waist with a belt, and I'm being one with the turf (really I just fell down and can't get up).

Nah...not really a hippy..... can't afford organic (soil I can, everything else...nope)..... I won't trespass on your grass.

I tried a homemade spray hydro system for my second attempt, it wasn't fun. I made a bunch of design errors (light could penetrate, not enough grow light, no filtered ventilation, etc). That was 20 years ago.

I was turned off by the experience. Maybe if I grow enough, I'll possibly, maybe.....

I know awhile ago there was a lot want to ya Home Depot lol but not sure where I saw it excate same set up . 40$ for kit . I’ll be trying dwc with an next year winter . And docs high brix kit to see if I liek it better to suit my needs as a grower or course . Nice explaining scrogdawg
