Scrog Waterfarm Grow

:welcome: Papa Green and thanks for the complements. I'm trying my best to keep them as happy as I can.

Yes my stems are nice and thick from the screens. I don't know if I am going to need to support the branches. I have been told that Cindy99 is notorious for being really floppy. I was hoping the screen was going to help with this. Now with no screen I am interested to see what happens.

Can't wait to see what project you have brewing. Just started to read your thread and with 24 pages it is going to take me a few days to get caught up!

just pokin in to say hi. Thought I'd let you know - I did in fact scrog them last night. I ceratainly appreciate your reading the journal, but skip to the end and check out the results of the scrog!

I like the vibe in your journal so I hope you don't mind my throwing that in there.

I'd rep you if I could. But I can do stars! Edit: Dang no I couldn't.

Papa Green thanks for the enouragement! Glad you like the vibes here. :grinjoint:

Okay have to plug my new journal it is GH vs 5-11-27 Purple Kush Comparison Grow link below.

Since it is day 21 (so I think really bad with days) :BH: (okay had to use that) just thought I would post some updated pics. Wow they are getting frosty! Really starting to fill in. Growing plants and just seeing them burst with life is an amazing experience!

Well I've been slimed. One plant I have has been turning yellow faster than the rest for about a week now. Lifted the bucket to take a look at the roots and there it was! Slimy smelly roots. The bubbler wasn't in the water all the way and not oxygenating it and even with cold res temps and bubblers in ever bucket still got it! Needless to say hygrozyme and H202 are in the res! But none of the other 15 have it. I can see the roots in the bucket have started to grow. I disturbed some hydroton when lifting the bucket out and it is full of white healthy roots. That is why I think it has been such a slow process. I am very optimistic that now that the bubbler is fixed and a daily dose of H202 and hygrozyme with every top up it should be fine. But I will be checking roots now on for any sign of it!

quick update the slim mold looks a lot better I mixed up a spray bottle of H202, grozyme, and SM-90 and sprayed the roots. All the slim mold just fell off. So I think it is dying. So I will keep using these products till the end of grow. Don't want to be surprised again! This another lesson if you want to get a good yield have to watch the little details!

Hi onth420train,

Yes it is a lot of product and I am getting really excited with how it is turning out. Unfortunately I know people who need it. It is a lot of fun to grow, but I really wish I didn't have too. In all the excitement I just don't want to forget why we are doing this.

That being say back to the grow. Yes the problem was not enough DO in that one bucket. It was the last bucket on the row, in the back corner and I was probably excited to finally have the system up and running so I did not realize that the air stone was stuck in the roots and not totally submerged in water. Therefore the air was coming out of the top half of the stone that was out of the water and not oxygenating that bucket. So right when I got the water bubbling the slime mold was already falling off! To make sure the slim doesn't spread I am using Hydrogen peroxide,SM-90, and grozyme.

I am reading this and for anyone unfamiliar with the waterfarm just want to make sure there is no confusion. The waterfarm is a two buckets system. If I just say "the bucket" I am referring to the two buckets as one unit. I will get in the habit of calling the bucket with the hydroton and plant the "small bucket". I have this on a continues drip so this portion of the bucket is basically like a drip hydroton system. So when I said above that I noticed more root growth in the bucket I meant that I noticed more root growth in the small bucket full of hydroton. This little bucket fits into the "big bucket" that has a layer of water on the bottom and works more like a DWC system, that is the one that I aerate.

Hopefully this make sense. I read my other post a few times before I remember what I was trying to say! So if it confuses me to read my own stuff I don't think thats good.

:peace:

I chose the waterfarm for the fact that it isn't a full dwc so it is a bit more forgiving but at the same time doesn't use much medium. I like the ebb&grow system that pitviper and greenisland (has a great DIY page) use, but I wouldn't want to be lugging that much hydroton all over the place! DWC to me is a little too unforgiving. I really want to try an aeroponic idea I have. Maybe next year I will build up the courage to give it a whirl.

:peace:

Ya I have some spare foggers kicking around and was thinking that it would be easy to make a fogger cloner. I am sure it wouldn't even take like ten minutes. Just haven't got around to getting the neoprene pucks from the local hydro store to do it. A lot of people really recommend aeroponics (charon). Haven't seen as many fogger cloners. Wondering if their is any reason for that? Anyone tried building both and had better success with one over the other? Really like to hear peoples feed back on the pros and cons of the two.

:peace:

Hey Propa Gator. Ya I went searchen for reasons why foggers weren't used and that was one of the main reasons. Lots of people love the spray cloners.

Okay have pics just need to get them up since we are now in week 5. The girls are looking amazing! I am now just anxiously awaiting them to fatten up! Hopefully in the next two weeks the flowers will really fill out. Crossing my fingers. Can't believe how crystally they are already. And the smell! Cindy99 in flower definetly smells so fruity it is amazing!

Did a reservoir change out and went with straight chemicals. Did this just because of the slim mold. Just want it nice a clean for a few days to make sure its dead. So I have in the reservoir my salt mix with half strengths mono potassium phosphate and full strength the rest of the various salts. reason for this is I had some overdrive to use us and DNF gold has phosphors and potassium in it so I don't want to over due it. The overdrive is all used up so one less bottle kicking around. To kill the slim mold I have SM-90, grozyme, and H2O2. Since everything is looking really clean I am not going to add anymore H2O2. Once I got the bubbler fixed I could tell the slim mold no longer liked the environment. So starting in a few days I will start using Pureblend as my top up nutrient source. I figure I will do another reservoir change at the end of week 6. Then for week 7 just mix up 600ppm solution of Pureblend and just top up with RO water. THe finishing with a tap water flush for week 8. Okay will get pics up tomorrow.

Thanks onthe420train. I have read that Cindy99 is suppose to be a really fast strain with some people cutting it down in 6 weeks. It really started pumping out the resin early on and is already really sticky and again smells likes coolaid powder. It is so nice working with the girls! The lower leaves are starting to die off and I was cleaning them up and was just getting this intense fruity citrus smell!

It is funny even though they are progressing so fast and have tons of buds sights I still want it to go faster and them to be fatter already! lol Always searching the science to see what products can improve my results. Questioning if I can improve my fertilizer formula. I did come across that plants do change the ration of chlorophyll A and B in relation to what light they receive. More red light = more chlorophyll B as the ration of photosystem II:photosystem I increases. This then causes the effects of stretching in plants. I wonder what hormonal regulation on flowering this has. Still wondering why HPS still the best for flower production.

Oh hey Propa Gator must of posted while I was writing my little rant. Thanks for the complement! With all the bugs in the system at the beginning and delays in flipping them I am really amazed how well they are turning out! I think some positive energy has been with me on this grow. The delay in flipping I think just gave me bigger trees and more bud sites. The height they are I think is perfect for 1000w. Not the nice thin carpet of Scrog but I think with this light intensity not a problem at all. I guess we will have to see what the final numbers are, but I am just really happy and excited that hopefully in just a little under 4 weeks I will have a good quality crop. Just watched "In Pot We Trust". This just reaffirms for me the value of this plant. Makes me feel really good to know that I can really improve two peoples lives. Would love to hear ways to improve quality of the plants. With the success I am having so far I am starting to turn my attention to how environment effects the plants and ways to really improve quality. Whether it is UV, organics, temperature, certain nutrients at critical times, etc. Again love to hear from everyone and will post anything I find.

Totally agree onthe420train. I think there is more to it than that. I think spectrum has something to do with it as well. I think the combo of the two triggers something in plants to really switch to reproductive mode. Just like wow tons of red light lets start pumpen out the flowers to get some seeds out there! I just find it weird how red light carries less energy and Chlorophyll B is less effecient that Chlorophyll A yet it is red that encourages flowers. You would think that it would want all the energy from blue light to pack the seeds full of high energy compounds. But I am sure the plants has tons of energy that it translocates to the seeds before it dies.

CMH retrofit by Phillips produce a superior spectrum, more like the sun.
That Mj can utilize HPSs' narrow but strong spectrum by increased reliance on chlorophyll B is news to me, but may explain good results HPS growers get.
I am, however not convinced that HPS shines superior light vs CMH for any stage of growth.
